Evereytime I click the link for step 3, my entire Apache server crashes under windows. My Apache logs show nothing that could possibly be cuasing the problem. So I was wondering if it was a common occurance or if I should switch from 3.0.3 to 3.0.0?

I had a similar problem. Each time i tried to go to step 3 i would get a windows error (apache process just terminated) and a firefox error (page contains no data). But i guess my apache process (installed via xampp) must have been automatically restarting, because after i clicked the link about four times it finally worked!

I know other people have had the same problem. You could do a search. I think the solution was to manually install it.
