Full Version: Good website host company?
CubeCart Forums > General > General Discussion

I'm looking for a new website hosting company. My current one (MIDPHASE) is really annoying me with going down at least once a week... Sometimes it's only for a few minutes but other times it might be for a good hour or two. Is this normal?

Another reason why I want to change would be just the fact then we you contact the customer service; you can never get an apology out of them. The best thing you'll get is a Please be patience...Aggravating.

Can anyone recommend a hosting company, which also has the features to support Cubecart of course. Thanks!

Hmmm... What I'm actually looking for is an answer from just a regular Cubecart user that actually doesnt have their own hosting services or get a referral bonus from one.

Im with www.siteground.com I get no benifit from talking about them but I have found their service to be excellent. They respond to tickets usually within 5-10 minutes, Never been kept waiting (at least for an initial reply) more than about 12mins.
They guarantee their uptime but It is yet to be an issue.
I'm pretty happy with them

Hi tim,
There' such a variety out there. It really depends on what it is your looking for besides of course, reliable hosting. I'm with HostingZoom now and love them! FAST, excellent pricing, good control over my account, cpanel, forum and 24hr cs. They also offer dedicated IP addressess if that is of matter to you. AND they come equipped with CubeCart on some packages laugh.gif Though, think it might be the 3.0.0 version. I installed 3.0.2 as a straight upload. You can check their website out for the full details. They also do reseller accounts.

I have my own servers and sell any kind of hosting solutions in US, but the do go down every so offten dry.gif

The best one i am using for a client of mine which is not my server but it is in the UK, the only problem it does not have any Fantastico etc packages on it and the CP is not so big and friendly.

If you want more info send me a PM and i will give you a contact email. wink.gif

I own my own server and have it collocated in Chicago. I have unmetered dedicated bandwidth and of course 100% control. I can put anything I could ever want on it and change my mind on a whim. I realize it's a bit much for most people, but it works well for me. biggrin.gif

I guess you can say that the uptime is pretty decent as well . . .

I use a hosting company that is excellent with service and uptime.
www.etwebhosting.com - prices can't be beat! They support CubeCart.

Wow thanks for all the responses so far. I suppose to I would like to control multiple domains through the webhost as well. I only have one now but planning on opening up another shortly. So multiple domain control, fast and reliable, customer service that doesn't treat their customers like dirt (ie. Midphase blah), plus CPANEL and of course support Cubecart (Up to date PHP, etc).

I'll be checking out those hosts you've all listed so far.
Thanks!

I have Bluehost as my hosting company, and I think they are just okay as far as hosting companies go, but then maybe I expect to much for my $$. Page requests sometimes seem to hang forever, and lately there have been some real issues with the mySQL servers and log-in servers preventing me from doing any work on my site. They do have good customer service however, and any issues I've had have been resolved pretty quickly. So maybe a little better than okay, at $6.95/mo. for basic shared hosting.

I've been with http://www.pro-net-hosting.com/ for about 3 years now and have never had any problem. They allow you to pay on a monthly basis, and they dont restrict things like email adresses or parked domains. Quick live service and always reall helpfull. And they are really good about just leaving you alone and letting you do your thing.

my site is currently 200 gig in size and my bandwidth is around 1000 gig/month can you handle that?

wots ur guarantee on uptime?

I guarantee 99.9% uptime. No prob with size, .com no problem either, servers are physically located in Denver, Colorado, state of the art. The price is because my wife works as a Database Administrator, so she can host anything she wants for 40.00, I would just roll 10 bucks extra for us. Just give details and pymt, and you would recieve everything in 24 hrs max (2 - 3 hours normally). Since the account would be active, you do get 24 hrs techincal support via email or phone. Anything else you would like to know, just ask.

One key note: Size does not really matter, even thou you do have a pretty big thing going, obvioulsy hosting unlimited is a give and recieve, you would probably be 1 in 1000 to use more than 1GB, so it is really not a problem at all. So what about it? You Game?
evilhomer
If it costs you $40 leaving u with $10 how can you supply me with a .com name

how much do you pay for a .com name?
Dantebuub
my wife get's them register for 3.95 a yr, but for 40 dlls itīs included, we would be making a 10 dll profit, and I'm just trying to be a good neighbor. I mean I saw the forum, said what the heck, I mean most hosting companies screw you, or have plans that are big budgeted, so I'm just trying to help. Feel free to ask me anything more, but that would be the price. 50 dlls with any domain .com included that you want.

I was going to stay out of this thread because the issues appears to be low price and I do not seek out clients for whom price is a major issue. But the remark, "most hosting companies screw you, or have plans that are big budgeted," requires responsible comment. An ignorant remark like that should be consider in the light of the source and the questionable status of the "service" promised.

I have been hosting web sites since January, 1994, have clients in 5 countries and a better than 90% retention rate. I am at the high end as regards fees, $240 per year, which I require be paid in advance annually. I provide intensely responsive and personal service.

My clients are almost exclusively businesses, not personal or hobbyists' playgrounds, although all get the same level of service and support. Any successful business owner will tell you that a dependable supplier is as equally important as a customer. Price is not the most important issue. Dependability is the last word that I would think of in regard to the offer from the wife's servers.

You, sir, are running a dubious business built upon sand. You are proposing to charge someone for the use of her employer's equipment and service. While employee benefits there may be generous to the point of being lax, and the equipment and connection may have high capacity, I doubt very much that the employer approves of you building a business on their servers.

The liability issues alone should scare the hell out of someone "upstairs," not to mention security concerns. And if they truly do not care, well wave a red flag high because there will yet be a day of reckoning at that "business." It's just not how a sound business is operated.

Further, if your wife loses her job, any web sites she is sheltering probably will be shut down even as Security shows her the door. And it is very possible that this activity could be the proximate cause of that.

I am not posting my hosting company name here because I do not need to use this venue for self-promotion.
evilhomer
The only reason i asked the questions was there are a lot of hosting companies offering unlimited this and that

I need a truly reliable hosting company and not afraid to pay the cost for the service/support.

Hello,

This has been an interesting thread all round, but I think that it has gone completely off track. I do hope that the original poster got the answers to the questions raised. smile.gif

There are thousands of web-hosts out there, some reputable, some not, and unfortunately it really is only recomendations which can assess a companies quality of service. Some companies sell on price, some sell on features. Its the customers choice which one they want to go for.

There are some forums out there on the web, which are dedicated to discussing webhosts, the biggest, most well-known one being considered more a kindergarton playground than an adult discussion forum. But usually a quick search on Google can reveal good (and sometimes bad) feedback on webhosts. Some people can have very different eperiences with web hosts. One customer may have a brilliant exp, another customer may just not 'gel' with the company and move elsewhere. Unfortunately this is just part of the way we are.

I do, myself, stand by the old adage 'You get what you pay for' as with most things in business. A website I frequent uses a 'free' webhost (read: they don't charge you anything, but litter the site with google ads) who managed to forget to renew their domain, throwing thousands of free websites offline for around 12 hours. Ahh, the joys.

So in conclusion, good webhost companies are out there. Do your research, ask on forums and make sure that the answers you are getting are actually from customers, and not company reps. Also, hosting company forums can be helpful, depending on the level of moderation that goes on (Ie: deleting anything negative) however a good host would leave the thread, and explain the situation.

Thanks.
Dantebuub
JerseyJoe, sorry for any thing I may have caused you or lead you to believe, and when I said most, I said most, because that is sincerely my opinion. Thinking about the ethical and morals that abound int your reply, well you are right, and I will remove my offer and deter from offering anything in the future. Obviously as you do not sincerely know the situation with an employer you do not work with, well you are out of context there, see it is not as you think. All in all you do make a good point and I sincerley wish you the best in your life and business. no last words here, just good luck!
