Has anyone done a speed test with xtemplate against smarty?
sunshine
I haven't done a speed test. though, they do say 'Smarty' is faster but xtemplate cleaner and more adaptable. Aren't there some sort of flaws in Smarty
Festus
If there are flaws in Smarty, I would like to know what those are. I think it looks like it would be rather difficult for an HTML guy to edit a Smarty template as compared to an XTemplate just glancing at the conventions used.

I've used a smarty program (phpLD from http://phplinkdirectory.com/) and cubecart with xtemplate.

I find them equally "easy" to deal with. It's simply a matter of reframing your thought processes to take into account the differences in templating, php calls, etc.

I don't see that either is "faster" per se.

Well I will look into it some more, I am at a crossroads where I have outgrown Zen Cart and am looking at different options. No cart I have found has the features I need and it will take a lot of customization to get them in shape.

I think regardless of which one you choose, modding is inevitable. You'll need to customize it to 'fit' and to accomodate your shop as your business grows.

Exactly, but I want to start with a good base that is optimized and properly coded. I may just go with a developers base and libraries if that turns out to be the most efficient and cost effective way to go.

The developers of some of the carts I am using or looking at are not interested in making money doing the modifications for me.

Festus, Brooky does the base code and that's a full time job plus for him. However, there are a handful of us, myself included, who specialize in customizations of CubeCart ranging from the painfully simple to the utmost in complexity. So don't worry about the developer not being intersted in building you a custom version. CubeCart3 is some of the best coded PHP I've seen in a long time....and I have high standards. biggrin.gif Plus the full XHTML / CSS compliance is most definitely a step in the right direction.

Festus,
Well it's a good thing your doing your research. And be sure that whatever you look into, the developer has security in mind when developing. Good Luck smile.gif

Sir William, I might be getting in touch with you if you like a challenge. I need some major modifications done if I go with CubeCart.

I was hoping to find someone around Missouri or Kansas, but Arkansas would fit the bill too. I have relatives in Mountain View, Calico Rock, Russelville, Silom Springs, Decatur, Gentry, ... smile.gif
