I attempted to do a first time load of CC v 3.0.5 on my localhost and on step 2 got the following error:
Step 2 - Check File Permissions
Please make sure the following file permissions are set correctly:
File / Folder Current Permission Required Permission
images/uploads/ 0777 0777
images/uploads/thumbs/ 0777 0777
includes/global.inc.php 0666 0777
pear/tmp/ 0777 0777
I changed the permission for global.inc.php to 777 and still no joy. I attempted to load 3.0.4 and got the same error.
I am running Apache with PHP and MySQL on an XP machine.
Any ideas?

I didn't have to change any permissions to use cc on xampp on my winxp box. Maybe something needs changing in your httpd.conf?

Hello,
I've upgraded the cart. Strangely though it still reads the old version 3.0.4 at the bottom of the page but the upgrade script said:
"Thank you. Your store has been updated. Please now delete this upgrade script."
I think it updated correctly though it fails to update the version number on the index page.
Best Regards,
Amir

Well, if you look back into the manual upgrade instructions for 3.0.4, there's some lines which change the version number. You can just redo those lines for 3.0.5 probably....

CC 3.0.4 was a quick release to patch some cross-scripting flaws in CubeCart. There were only 10 or so files that were changed, and Brooky didn't worry about updating the version numbers from 3.0.3 to 3.0.4.

To reply the Original Poster:
I had the same error (WinXP Home Edition/ EasyPHP)
At step two it said my permissions were wrong, but in the information bar it said you could skip it, but there was no link to do that.
The way I ended up skipping it was by going into the address bar of internet explorer where I had something like
"...index.php?step=2&skip=1"
and changed "...step=2..." to "...step=3..." (the "skip=1" doesn't seem to make any difference whether you delete it or not)
It then allowed me to fill in the next step normally (You should be careful of capitals though, not just in your password but in all the data you fill in).
I got another error in step four saying I needed to reset the permissions for the includes/global.inc.php to 0644 (or something like that).
At this stage if you try to open the page you will get an error which says you have to delete the install folder. So I went into the shopping cart folder and deleted the install directory (If you are working on a remote server you should be able to FTP into it and delete it).
After doing that it seemed to be working perfectly.
Important:
I only tested it for one night (yesterday) and so they may be more bugs that I am not aware of caused by this shortcut.
If I understand correctly the reason it complains about the permission is becuase the global.inc.php file contains all your login details and so you need to make sure it's not accesible to just anybody (by changing permissions)

Any bugs, crashes, loss of income or eternal damnation caused by your following this advice is nothing to do with me, why are you listening to me anyway?

Since you're using windows, there shouldn't be any problems with just skipping the file permissions steps. The only important step is the one where you input your database details etc.
