I don't mind the copy right info at the bottom but I surely do not want the logo at the top. So does this mean I have to purchase the license and if I do are there other skins available and/or how can one modify the skins?

No. You must only leave the copyright and the 'Powered By Cube Cart' in the URL. You can change anything else you like.

Other skins can be found in cubecart.org, you'll find free and commercial mods and skins there.

If you need to change the logo, its normally held under:
\skins\yourskinname\styleImages\
