Why isn't anything ever easy anymore!?! I have been trying to install this cart for 12 hours now and am not having ANY luck! I can not get past step four....step five (the complete screen?) gives me a white blank screen. No error messages, no nothing. What am I doing wrong? Oh...and the terms and condition screen is only a check box and the continue button...no terms and conditions.

I have tried two different MySQL databases (both 4 and 5) and nothing works. I have also tried using the p...secureserver.net and localhost for the name and still nothing... I am using GoDaddy for my hosting company and am new to this web hosting stuff...any help would be greatly appreciated. I am pulling my hair out over here. icon15.gif Thanks!

Hello Druidwarrior! Thanks for responding. I honestly am not sure what the problem is. I tried to install the software at least twenty times the other day and after step four all I got was a blank screen....no 'installation is comlete' page or links to where I go next. I tried installing the cart with both MySQL version 4 and 5 and even tried using different database host names (such as localhost and p...secureserver.net). Nothing is working and I have no clue why I am getting the blank screen and not even an error message. Any suggestions? Thanks so much! smile.gif

woah installing 20 times is alot.. that shows the dedication hehe, heres what you do:

Step 1: Login to Godaddy's Hosting Control Center.

Step 2: Mouse over database tab on the top and click MySQL when it drop down.

Step 3: I'm using database 4.1 anyway. Under Database Name, your database name should be clickable. You click your database name.

Step 4: After click DB name. ALL required infomations needed are shown on this page. Including DB Hostname which is usually something like r45mysql34.secureserver.net. your DB name, username, and your pwd.

Make sure you type exactly the same informations as shown onto page 4 or something which required all the DB infos.

Another note is make sure that you upload the files in ASCII mode which are neccessary? I'm using the free hosting account by godaddy with an Ad banner and it works.. here is it: http://gadgetwholesaler.com/

I'm sure you can do it too! =)

I am at a complete loss...I have been doing exactly that (what you listed above) and it just doesn't work. So...I completely deleted everything in my ftp file and started over....it still gives me a blank screen after step four (would be step five where it gives you the successful install message). I wonder if there is a problem with the file I downloaded from cube cart? Perhaps I will try to uninstall and re-do. I just have no clue what to do... Here is my website to see the blank screen I am talking about. This is exactly what I get after clicking continue on Step four. Thanks for your help.....if you have anymore suggestions, please let me know...I will try anything. smile.gif
Sir William
Keep in mind that a LOT of servers are configured by default to NOT show errors on standard output. In order to know what's wrong, you'll likely need to view your log files.

There are ways to 'encourage' PHP to spit out all errors. I'm not sure if the installer scripts do this or not. I'll check with Al tomorrow on it. If they don't, that little thing could help you find out what to tell us so that we can help. biggrin.gif

Sir William
Here, try this just in case....

In /install/index.php, find this at the beginning:

session_start();

Add this on the line before it:

error_reporting(E_ALL ^ E_NOTICE);

Save and re-upload. Perhaps the server will tell you more about what's going on then.

Did you upload all the files in ascii mode? sometimes it mess up if you upload in binary.

If you're sure of this than I would suggest you to contact gdaddy tech support to check what is going wrong. perharps there are some mis configuration on your server. I have personally installed CC on gdaddy linux hosting for more than 3 times and they have no problem at all.

Really, an installation on this hosting should be seamless. My hosting configuration is the same, but different company, so I know the ins and outs of it very well.

Some tips:

> Everything is case sensitive. If you have a capital letter out of place, it won't connect.

> The godaddy servers are very strict on configuration, much of this is to do with plugging security holes that other hosting companies leave open, however, the error reporting even at a basic level should tell you what is happening, and my guess is that the next screen would have been either a mySQL error screen, or a permission setting problem.

> Something that concerned me was that you tried 'localhost' as a database name setting. I understand you did this out of desperation, but you need to be clear on what it's asking you for, and the information you are providing:

- The database host name is something like (But not necessarily exactly like) r45mysql34.secureserver.net

- Your database username and database name are one and the same. Don't confuse this with your hosting account login name

Some questions:

What software are you using to FTP the files to your server?

Hi smile.gif I am using Dreamweaver as my FTP client and I have even gone into GoDaddy and transferred the files that way...just to make sure they were in ASCII mode. I have also been really careful to get the passwords and user names correct...so I am pretty sure this is not the problem. I deleted the entire cube cart file earlier and am going to try one last time to download it all again. If it don't work....I will either pull my hair out or give up. lol Thanks so much for your help! smile.gif

Hi Druidwarrior- Yeah, I actually was in GoDaddy today for hours doing that file by file....because I do not know how to make this change in Dreamweaver. I looked in the help files, but couldn't find anything...so I just did it in my hosting account. It still doesn't work, so I am about to give up. Thanks for your help. smile.gif

Thanks for your help Sir William! I did not know that servers would do that.....sounds a bit crazy to me; I would think they would want you to know what is happening and show the errors, but I suppose that would be logical. wink.gif I appreciate your help and I will try what you suggested below. Hopefully something will give here... Thanks again! smile.gif

Can I suggest FileZilla as a FTP client. You can do a Google search for it and download it. It's free, and tried and tested. I use WS-FTP Pro, but that costs money.

I don't recommend Dreamweaver for FTP, because if you're not careful, it'll alter file locations without you realising, and your website will start to look for files on your user's hard drive that aren't there.

I also don't recommend the Java FTP that comes with the hosting. It is great as a quickie to allow FTP especially when you're away from your computer, like at an internet cafe, but it's not intended for bulk file transfer, and things can sometimes go wrong with it. Useful, but not 100% reliable.

Finally, I'd recommend using a different browser to the one you're currently using. That would pretty much eliminate all the problems I can think of on the information I've been given. On the last point that Sir William made, contact your hosting technical support, and they'll be able to confirm the status of error reporting. But, you should still get basic errors at this stage if there's an issue with something you've entered.
