I know I have read this somewhere and have searched without luck.

I seem to remember that file permissions have to be reset after editing the home page and / or the site docs.

Could someone please advise which files they are and what to reset the permission to.

You dont have to change anything with the sitedocs, only with the homepage. To edit the hompage you need to chmod /languages/en/home.inc.php to 777, when finished change it back to 644.
