Hello all. smile.gif

Sorry if the answers to my queries are available elsewhere - I urgently need to make a decision on what software to use and would appreciate some brief responses.

1) Just how customisable is the templating?

I already have design visuals to work to from the designers, so I'll need to create my own template from scratch using the defaults as reference. (I've had a peek at the default templates and they seem nicely split into CSS and HTML.) Is this possible, and can I completely change where, and when/if, things appear

2) Category/product structure customising.

My shop will be split into two basic collections (male and female). Within each collection, there will be a number of lifestyle shots of models wearing clothes. When this lifestyle shot is clicked, the next page will show the enlarged version of it, and down the side will be further shots of the clothes on hangers. When a hanger shot is clicked, the enlarged version of the hanger shot will be shown, along with the actual variants of the products ready for placing in the cart.

Before I came across CubeCart again, I was going to set the database structure up myself and use lookup tables to assign products to the various sections and subsections (many to many). Is this kind of thing possible in CubeCart?

3) The client eventually wishes to have the ability to edit the products themselves and the features of customer registration, stock monitoring and promotional discount codes. Will these be available in v4 (or are they now?), and will an upgrade from v3 be possible?

Many thanks.

Look no further, I've been a web designer for 10 years and have tried dozens of off-the-shelf carts including some of the so-called best (and most expensive) - such as Actinic and EROL. I've got to say that for me cubecart offers the most flexible, and easy-to-learn system.

1) the templates are very easy to customise. If you are familiar with xhtml/css - you will be able to hit the ground running

2) Categories, subcategories, products and product options are also very easy to set by default. For advanced viewing or customisation of product variants - there is a multitude of mods available - many listed over at cubecart.org and cubecartforums.org

3) stock monitoring is already available and so too are other items albeit with the addition of third party mods.
All of the features mentioned should be in Cubecart4 (which is probably a coupla months away yet) ... and I believe that yes you will be able to upgrade - but I'm not sure if a fee has yet been decided for this...

I used to use EROL way back. Ugh... Javascript hell.

Yes, I've been tinkering with some template modification this afternoon and it seems there's plenty of potential for complete redesigning. (It's just a shame the default templates come with so many tables and unnecessary class assignments.)

Thanks. If you have any suggestions as to how I could assign a category to multiple parent categories I think that would provide what I need. I'll look through those sites as soon as I can too.
