I can't find anything on this in the KBase. Any ideas please?

Using Apple OS 10.4 and Fetch FTP client. Installation stalls because store/pear/tmp directory is reported as 0755. FTPing chmod 0777
to ISP gives server response: tmp: permission denied


Tech support at ISP (Unix server) says:
None of the directories there are 777, but due to the way the the web
server runs, there should be no need to make it world writable. Your
php scripts should be able to work with the directories as they are.

some server setups dont like 777 settings so try 766 - gives read/write access with no excecute rights
otherwise find a better hosting company that is willing to hep you more - that is very poor excuse for support
