bsmither
Welcome mykidz! Glad to see you made it to the forums. You may create a sub-category for a parent category, such as: Consumer Electronics <- Top-Level Category -- Cell Phones <--- Sub Category Then, you may assign "Cell Phones" to the product as the product's main category, and you may assign "Consumer Electronics" (or any category) to the product as the product's secondary category. BullClip
is it possible to do this at Bulk Import time.... i.e. is there a break sequence like a semicolon or backslash ==> Consumer Electronics \ Cell Phones
bsmither
Welcome BullClip! Glad to see you made it to the forums. This is the way it is supposed to work: Category names, Category ID numbers, or a mix -- existing named or new. In the imported column mapped to 'cat_id', the value can be a comma separated list of category names or ID numbers. (You will need to research the cat_id numbers before-hand.) The first category name or ID number is the primary. If any category name does not exist, it will be created. So, be sure to use existing names exactly. BullClip
Thanks very much for your time and reply bsmither !! But what my burning question is.... Can you create a parent category at time of import y using an escape char ? So far I have tried \ and / and // and ; nothing seems to desperate my list like the comma does But having in excess of 450 categories (some 4 deep in places) I am needing a way to create parent cats automagically.. BullClip
It's cool !!! Found a workable solution.https://www.cubecart.com/extensions/product-feeds/mass-import-of-categories For $14 bucks it saved a lot of headaches. It does what it says on the tin - allows you to mass create categories as many deep as you like. Once the cats are made - you simply refer to them by name in the importer Simples
