  1. Thanks for your help. The demo version apparently does not allow the installation of modules. "Access to this is denied in the demo store for security reasons. Please go back to the previous page." I've been a CubeCart user for more years than I care to remember, but with this level of incompetence (no shipping module in the demo version) it may be time to move on.
  2. Did that. The only plugins listed are the "Free Shipping" and "Print Order Form". Do I need to install a shipping plugin? If so, which one? Seems a bit strange to not have basic shipping charge capability not installed on a demo site.
  3. I'm beginning to think I must be totally brain dead. I've logged onto the demo admin site and for the life of me I can't see where to setup shipping information. Can someone please tell me what I'm missing?
  4. Is there anyway to be sure the new admin.php has "taken"? I made the change but my version number on the admin home-page did not change. I would prefer to know for certain that the change is working. Not have to wait until the deadline and have my admin stop working.
  5. Unless Federal Law has changed, PayPal's policies are in opposition to the law. Credit card law was amended a number of years ago. It made it illegal for a Credit Card company (Remember, PayPal is officially not only a credit card clearing house, but now, with their own card, a credit card issuer) to insert such a clause in their contracts. Companies often insert blatently illegal clauses in their contracts in the hopes that they can "pull the wool" over the users' eyes. Also, larger companies, the ones that will have the legal department to take PayPal to task, will enter into seperate contracts. These larger companies usually have a few Aces in their sleeves that they would prefer not to have disclosed, so a "gentlemen's agreement" exist to turn a blind eye. No I'm not a conspiricy nut, I have had closed door dealings with larger companies and understand how they bend the rules to suit their best interests. Gary It use to be allowed a year or two ago, but no more. 13. Receiving funds 13.1. If you receive a notice to your email address that a payment has been sent through PayPal to you, you cannot access those funds until you open an Account. Your Account must use the same email address as the email address to which you received a notice. 13.2. For information about receiving funds in foreign currencies, also refer to clause 15 below. Your obligations when receiving funds 13.3. If you receive funds through our Services you must: 1. pay any Fees for receiving the funds into your Account depending on whether it is a Commercial Transaction or Personal Transaction; 2. not ask the buyer to send you the payment through a Personal Transaction if you sell goods or services and PayPal is chosen as the payment method; or 3. not impose a surcharge or any other fee for accepting our Services as a payment method.
  6. Your answer is EXACTLY why I posted the poll. Instead of giving some real help, you sarcastically ask my why I would want to do something the YOU BELIEVE works. Although I didn't state it this way, it's obvious from my statements that there I'm having a problem with the "Request Password" function. Instead of answering my question, you take the easy way and repeat what has been said time and again in this forum and in the manual. When a person sees the same problem (issues with admin logins) posted over and over, it warrants some deeper answers. I have no idea who you are or your relationship to CC. It does seem to me that some of the responses come from CC employees and it does seem that they sometimes tout "the company line", encouraging people to spend money for support. I have no problem spending money for support and/or expertise (I do it virtually every day), but only after I've made reasonable efforts in other places. And when a forum exists supposedly to assist CC users, sometimes some in depth explanations are warranted. Compare your response to bsmither's response. He made a REAL effort to explain not only a solution, but the theory behind it. I would suggest that the size of the forum would be reduced considerably if more answers were as detailed as his. To bsmither, there seems to be something amiss with my "Request Password" function. I do get an email with a new password, but when the new password is used, CC just returns me to the admin login screen. No message about an incorrect login, just a return to the login screen. Since I was having this problem, I thought it might be worthwhile to try a different approach. In addition, it certainly doesn't hurt to understand as much about the program as possible. Thanks for your detailed response. I'll post the results so everyone who reads this will benefit from the detailed information. BTW, I am guilty of leaving out information: CC version 4.3.8, PHP 5.2.10, MySQL 5.1.34, phpMyAdmin 3.2.0.1, running on a dedicated FreeBSD server (not a virtual server or a hosting service) and Apache 2.2.3 Why do you wish to override the built-in feature and do this in phpMyAdmin? The code uses MD5 to create a 1-way hash of the password. The salt is randomly generated. It sounds like you mis-understand the function of this forum. This is for peer-to-peer support. Moderators are unpaid and receive no benefits. Support is from helpful other users, who provide this out of goodwill. If you need technical support, then the option is to purchase a support plan or contact a commercial developer at CubeCartForums.org The best way to get a response here, is NOT to add sarcastic comments, and simply to explain the background to your question and provide as much info as possible. Thank-you Jason
  7. Can someone please explain how to create the salt and password using phpMyAdmin? Is the salt truly a random number (6 chars?) or is it based upon some other field (or fields) in the admin user record? If it is based on other fields. which ones and what function (encryption) is used? Re: the password, once the salt is generated (whether random or encrypted) is it prepended or appended to the plain text password. In other words, if the salt is 123456 and the desired password is PassWord, is the value entered into the password field 123456PassWord or PassWord123456? And again, what encryption function is used to process the plain text password to get the encrypted password. A REAL explanation of this would really help a lot of people, especially since the "Request Password" function seems to be a joke (as is so much of CubeCart).
  8. I've been running 4.3.0 for about 3 months. Until this time, all has gone fairly well. Last night my site started acting weird regarding PayPal. I'm using the Standard PayPal mode (not Pro). Two related scenarios have occurred. First an order was placed. Notification of the pending order was received from CubeCart. Notification of payment was received from PayPal. However the notification of payment from CubeCart and changing of order status to Processing never occurred. In fact the order status is now Canceled. There has been no activity on PayPal to indicate that the payment has been withdrawn. I've emailed the customer to confirm the order, but have not yet received a response. I would suspect something the customer did were it not for the next incident. Second order behaved exactly the same way (order placed, payment confirmation from PayPal, but not from CubeCart). In this case the order status has remained as Pending. Again the payment is in our PayPal account. Both PayPal payments have the corresponding CubeCart order number correct. To the best of my knowledge I have made no changes to the system in between the time the system was working properly (about 2 days ago) and when it started acting weird last night. Definitely no code changes or mods. It acts to me like PayPal is not returning a payment completion status, or CubeCart is mis-interpreting it. Any ideas?
