  1. Can I please ask a supplementary question. I was going to start a new topic, but as it directly references this discussion it seemed easier to add it here. I'm somewhat confused - easily done and not for the first time, I know. That bit at the bottom: $DATA.note_to_customer - presumably is to include the note to the customer entered by admin in that e-mail (I added this to the order complete e-mail under your direction here so that I could add comments and I do use it on every order), but as this is the message to confirm a new order, presumably one hasn't even been added yet, so it seems redundant? I've noticed that I'm not getting customer comments added in the checkout process with my orders and in my case, as they contain pertinent instructions from the customer, they're pretty important - meaning that I can't reply to the e-mail on my phone etc. without looking at the order in admin., which isn't always possible. Can I change $DATA.note_to_customer to whatever is the correct macro for the customer-entered order comments - it appears in the template as {$VAL_CUSTOMER_COMMENTS} so would something like $DATA. CUSTOMER_COMMENTS work so that the customer-entered comment from the checkout will appear in my admin order e-mail? I'm using an edited eTone skin, but this section of the checkout confirm template appears the same as in Foundation. This is my shop if you want to look (I can't seem to edit my sig.): https://www.boo-creations.co.uk/shop/
  2. I totally forgot to come back to this - I was going to check my technical support fixed version and report back. Al actually sorted mine out for me when I was getting errors with processing orders before my shop went live and when I look at the code at the bottom of that template, that is actually what it now says - just as bsmither posted. I'm happy to confirm that for myself too, as I periodically need to change templates when I'm on holiday or something, so I'm happy to know that the current version is correct (and why, thanks) so that I can keep the content as a master correct version and edit and paste a copy temporarily as required. I've found with CC6 especially, that keeping a plain text file version of page and template contents - copying and editing it and then pasting that in seems to work better than trying to edit an open template or document within admin - that way I always have a copy that I know worked to return to and start over if I louse something up.
  3. Also successfully using PP's standard gateway with CC6. My old CC3 store stumbled occasionally at the point where the customer had paid, but it didn't direct back to the store, which made the customer wonder if the payment had gone through properly, but it worked fine at my end. My new CC6 store seems to be working well with PayPal and you do now get a transaction log - which shows the time they paid and the status of the order (at least that wasn't in CC3).
  4. I have over 5000 images with my site and as Dirty Butter said, organisation - or a system - that works is essential. My own system is suitable for me and the way I work, so you'll need to find what works for you, but I'll outline what I do below as it might give you some ideas. I realised a few years ago (had a CC store for at least 8 years now) that having all of my images in one big directory would be tiresome to scroll through to find images, so since then I started creating separate directories. I only use photos that I take myself and for the site, very predominantly, from one camera which I keep on sequential numbering, so I've never had duplicates and for each of my cameras I add a suffix to identify it anyway. Because I make jewellery, I name any finished photo with the name of the type of jewellery and the image frame number, so something like earrings30852f.jpg - that identifies what it is, the frame number and which camera I used. I also always use the main first photo number as the product code (so that pair of earrings will be 30852f), so I can easily identify a product from the photos if a client refers to it some years later, I just look through my index of photos. It also helps me hone down where the images are in the directory list as all the images used for a product will likely be close together numerically, so tend to appear in a cluster. And earrings all appear together, as do bracelets etc. I start a new directory when I pass each 1000 frames on my camera, which represents 200-300 finished images on the server. The big mistake I made when I started this system was not naming the directories directly after the image frame range, which would have been easier still. I also keep a notebook with a list of all the photos I use for each product, along with its sizes and materials, just to make the listing process itself easier. As bsmither has just posted, one tab with the images actually used separate from a general list for adding images would be very useful. Since I updated to CC6 and a new skin, some of my images are a less than ideal shape on the page, so I'm swapping some main images over to a better shaped one, so being able to get at just the ones used to toggle through them changing their status would be a nice feature.
  5. Have a look at this topic, where something similar was discussed - I'd had a similar experience when I'd edited something innocuous at the top of the email template content and it stopped it working:
  6. One of the things I'd like to be able to do on my newly upgraded CC6 store, is utilise the coupon codes to try and encourage additional related purchases. I think I understand how this will work, but need someone to check my thinking please. For example, I have a bracelet for sale at £56 GB pounds and would like to offer a £5 discount if they buy a matching pair of earrings at the same time. I have 2 pairs of earrings available that match, one at £19 and one at £32. I put all three items as 'Assigned Products' for the relevant coupon code and if I set a minimum spend at something like £70, then the coupon would allow the discount for the bracelet and either pair of earrings, but not if someone just bought both pairs of earrings (their sub-total = £51). I'm trying to just create one coupon code that I can publish on all three product pages. It appears to work when I put things in the basket and start to checkout, but if I remove one of the items, the coupon discount appears to persist with the lower value basket - is there a later point where it realises the coupon is no longer valid and removes the discount? And will it work as I'm thinking - with discount for 2 products from 3 assigned? I bought from one of my own suppliers at Christmas that had a free gift for offers over a certain value and when I checked out, one small item had sold out and was removed from my order, yet the coupon for the free gift persisted and my invoice said my order would include it - I didn't get it and queried it with them and they said 'but your order was below the value threshold'. I was a tad irritated as the lower order wasn't necessarily my fault, it was their stock issue and the paperwork persisted with the free gift included and I wouldn't want my customers to encounter a similar confusion and irritation - why is the coupon discount not removed when one of the qualifying products is and the subsequent order value falls below the threshold? If you only put one item in, or the two cheaper ones, I does say it doesn't qualify.
  7. I've updated the config file and changed the 'tiny' file to 60px and already, all my thumbs are that bit bigger, which was what I wanted. It clearly trumps whatever settings MagicThumb is given and it's no wonder I couldn't get them any larger within that - I'd even re-installed it to start over and it didn't change anything. I've deleted the larger image specs, so hopefully that at least will stop any future unused 600px files being created, cutting down on server space. Many thanks. I'd left it alone for a while as I was getting fed up with it all, but as soon as you think you're getting settled, something else crops up.
  8. Good afternoon Al - thank you. That's a bugger as the images produced are a bit dark and soft compared to mine and I would prefer to retain the ones I create. I've opened the config.xml file. I can at least see why some of the small ones are horrible, it has quality at 60 and 80. Can I edit that file to what I'd choose? Eg. take out the 600px version and improve the quality? Will that mess up existing images, or only affect any new files added?
  9. I had this same problem with my new CC6 store and Al corrected the template for me, as I had edited some of the content. But I'm pretty sure that I didn't edit anything at the bottom of the template page, I just added a couple of paragraphs of plain text at the top about how I respond to orders. I wonder if this is one of the times CC6 puts in its own edits/overwrites what you added, the same way it perpetually adds blank paragraphs into my site documents against my will, messing up page spacing?
  10. My new CC6 store is now up and running, thanks to Al for his considerable help moving it over for me. https://www.boo-creations.co.uk/shop/ It's not a deal-breaker, but I wonder if there is a better way to do things to save data capacity, in respect of my image files - I'm ending up with a lot too many of them - that is, several versions of the same image. I presume these are to allow for different skin and image handling arrangements? I'm using an edited version of e-Tone and MagicThumb plug in for my image display as I didn't like how they worked in the skin (don't entirely like MagicThumb either), my smaller images are I think the limiting factor. I tried a couple of items with larger images, but prefer to stay smaller as my items are small. I create my own 'as seen on the page' image files that are almost always 392px wide, with varying height (i.e 390 + 1px border all round) - this was a habit I formed with my old CC3 store as in the early days, this was more than sufficiently large as screens were much lower res than now. I supplemented this by uploading my own 90px wide thumbnails and found a hack somewhere to stop CC3 generating its own thumbs and over-writing mine each time I edited a page. As I've moved to a CC6 store, Al imported all of my images, which is something like 4500+ of them and the same amount of associated thumbs (although they're not used on this version). I've added a few new items to this shop and updated a few images and ftp'd them to the images/source directory, then 'updated the file list' - this works and images are where I expect and correctly appear in listings etc. The thumbs used by MagicThumb resolutely remain at 40px wide, no matter what size I specify in the settings. When I look at the cache directory, which is where the in use images are, there are now 5 versions of each image, as per the list below Original file uploaded: https://www.boo-creations.co.uk/shop/images/source/Volume_18/earrings30820f.jpg Copies/different sizes: https://www.boo-creations.co.uk/shop/images/cache/Volume_18/earrings30820f.600.jpg https://www.boo-creations.co.uk/shop/images/cache/Volume_18/earrings30820f.392.jpg https://www.boo-creations.co.uk/shop/images/cache/Volume_18/earrings30820f.120.jpg https://www.boo-creations.co.uk/shop/images/cache/Volume_18/earrings30820f.40.jpg https://www.boo-creations.co.uk/shop/images/cache/Volume_18/earrings30820f.jpg I've manually over-written the 40 and 120 px versions as I prefer my own thumbs as these are both used, but there's a copy of the original, a 392 version (which seems to be the one actually displayed, but looks the same as the original) and the 600 version is visually the same and not actually used - or actually re-sized. The original file was 46Kb and the additional ones are something like 215Kb - significantly more and with the amount of images I have, it's about 1Gb of additional files - some are duplicates or not even used. Can I upload images directly to the cache directory, or does it need to be in source to allow a file table (or whatever the correct term is) to be built? Can I delete them from source later, once they're in cache (and delete unwanted versions, like the 600 one), or can I prevent it from making so many copies that aren't needed in the first place?
  11. I had a similar problem yesterday when checking on the one digital product I have (just building a new, upgraded store with CC6, from CC3), the file didn't seem to be there. What I did to associate the file with the product was > In the Downloads section in admin, click the fourth tab to 'update file list' and that popped the digital file into the list on the files tab. Then edit the product itself and on the 'Digital' tab, check the box for the file for that product.
  12. I'm hoping, once I get this site working properly, not to update again for a while. But I do keep a note of what I've done. I don't have the luxury of time to perpetually update stuff, so once it's working, I intend to leave it be for a while. But thanks for the heads up.
  13. I can't offer a suggestion Roger, but mine is doing the same (Win7 and Mozilla 47). I only occasionally print invoices for overseas orders, so just clicked it to try it the other day and assumed that it was my fault and meant to try it again after a reboot, but forgot all about it.
  14. @Dirty Butter Many thanks, that has done the trick and is a more elegant solution than my earlier suggestion. I was a smidge bamboozled initially, as a message arrived to the wrong e-mail address, but of course I had used that as a customer and the message is a blind copy, not addressed to my admin mailbox. Thank you kindly, much appreciated.
  15. Can I please ask a supplementary question, based on something I read in a @bsmither post from a few years ago - I'm hoping that it will give me a way of working something. Because, as discussed above, I like personal confirmatory comments about an order to go out when the order is complete, I'd also like a copy of that message for my records (I know the detail is still in the notes). If I understand it correctly, if I set up myself another admin log-in, and when logged in as that, in the settings choose to have the "Order status for admin email notifications" set to 'Order complete', then I'd also get a copy of that message to the email address used for that 'admin' which would still be me. Would that work as I'm interpreting?
  16. Thank you. I'm mighty relieved, it's already been a pretty horrible week. I must admit, when I did a search for similar problems, I did see your thread about not having admin access for days with a poor host, so you'll know that sick feeling of panic I felt when I couldn't get my admin log-in page to even show. As you say, I'd rather know what went wrong so that I can potentially fix it if it happens again - or preferably, avoid breaking it in the first instance. But I'm pretty sure it was a setting of the SSL certificate being applied, because security warnings on the other version of the site don't change because I maybe corrupted a file elsewhere. And they swear they didn't do anything, but it suddenly all got fixed. In their defence, I got a message within minutes saying they'd look into it for me and it was 'fixed' just over an hour later, so at least they were attentive - on a Saturday! It frightens me a little that in order to sell on-line, we need to learn all this stuff and I find it all a little daunting, as much of it is beyond me, so I learn as I go. It's when it breaks you fully appreciate how little you know and how out of your depth you are - and how dangerous a little bit of knowledge is! Al Brookbanks has been a star this week helping me through it all, bless him.
  17. Panic over. I sent much the same message to my host and whilst they came back and said they hadn't done anything, as it was already correct, it suddenly corrected itself and all the assorted problems I'd had vanished. The CC3 store now directs to the basket when there's something in it and doesn't give security warnings. On i.e I couldn't get to the basket as it said the site was insecure and to return, but that suddenly works now. They reckon it was a cache issue, but I didn't clear my cache, it just worked properly when I opened the browser and tried again. My log-in page for CC3 admin came back after getting a 404 on everything I tried. I know I didn't do anything, as I walked away from the computer and was elsewhere. I would have just deleted the thread, but I don't think I can. So apologies for the panic-stricken intrusion earlier. I could have done without it this morning too.
  18. Good morning. I've seemingly done something stupid and locked myself out of the admin panel of my old, but public and active, CC3 store. I'm just upgrading to CC6 (well, Al's doing it for me) and working on a cloned site which is just about ready to go live on Monday. I bought an SSL and my host installed this yesterday and it appears to be working. I could see that the padlock appeared in the new CC6 site and when going to the basket/checkout it changed to https: I wondered if the old CC3 store did this too. So I added something in the basket and went to view basket and it told me it was an insecure site and to return. I realised I hadn't told it to enable SSL in the settings, so I went and did this and when now trying to view the basket, I got my custom 404 page. So I decided something obviously wasn't set right and I'd speak to my host, so went to put it back to 'no' in 'enable SSL' and as I clicked the no (didn't even get to update the settings), I got a blank white page that eventually loaded as my 404 page without it's style or images. I just can't get back in to the admin page, I've tried typing the URL manually, using bookmarks and different browsers and get the same broken 404 - no log in screen or admin page. On the public pages, the site appears to be working okay, but you add something to the basket and then try and view it, you get a 404 page - obviously rendering my site un-working until I can fix it. Is there anything I can change in cPanel or the like to restore it. I'll ask my host the same question as they've set up the SSL, but I'm livid with myself for seemingly breaking it in one click - although, in my defence, the site itself wasn't actually working before I started messing - it was just broken differently. I think the original problem with the checkout looking insecure is a setting issue for the host, but me changing it to not finding the basket and locking myself out of admin is my fault. I have two domains in the hosting that I use interchangeably - the creations version is the 'master' if you like. CC3 version: http://www.boo-creations.co.uk/shop/index.php CC3 alternative domain: http://www.boo-jewellery.co.uk/shop/index.php Cloned CC6 upgrade of new site: http://www.boo-creations.co.uk/staging/ Alternative domain CC6: http://www.boo-jewellery.co.uk/staging/
  19. Thanks both. All this stuff just makes me realise how little I know. I've been on a steep learning curve this last few days. If I don't put anything in the 'note to customer' box, presumably, if I don't put any further text around the macro in the template, it will just leave a blank line?
  20. That's the ticket! That worked a treat, thank you. Is there a full list of the available macros, as the ones listed under the template doesn't include that, I did look.
  21. I'm just setting up my new CC6 store, with Al's help and am just fine tuning the details before it goes live. One of the things I habitually do [with my current CC3 store] is put personal comments (about the order, I don't usually insult them) in the order complete e-mail - I type in the "Comments to customer" area and check the 'inform customer' box. CC6 looks to do something similar, in that in the notes section of orders, it states alongside the 'Public Note Content' box that customers can see these notes and they're appended to order notifications. I've set up my e-mail templates and signature and sending them to myself with a mock order, all appears well, except the content of the Public Note Content box isn't included. I wondered if I needed to include a macro in the e-mail template to allow this, but there doesn't appear to be one. Any ideas what am I missing or have failed to engage? Whilst I've sent up the order completed email to include some details of the order, many of my orders (as most are for gifts) require personal attention and instructions following, so I like to confirm that I've followed their specific requests.
  22. Thank you for the clarification. I couldn't remember whether the break was in between categories and search originally as I've changed it back and forth a few times to see if it broke anything on the phone/tablet versions etc. As you say, it doesn't appear to make any difference either way. I'm pretty happy now with the layout and appearance and I'm taking a couple of days off, so I'll get tech support to do the upgrade for me when I'm back, then try and finally knock it into shape and into use. Thank you for your time, it's appreciated.
  23. I've been a bit off colour for a few days and it seems to have turned my brain to mush - yes, that fixed it, thank you. If I'd actually engaged my brain before asking I should have been able to figure that one out for myself. I seem to have been approaching every problem from the wrong direction this week, I was thinking of something else entirely. I've combined the cart and session within the same div - I put them the other way round from you as I simply liked the result visually better. If I might ask one more thing. In main.php where these items appear, there are breaks between some of them and not others. As they're contained within a u3/25% wrapper, presumably, this constrains them to run underneath one another in a column - does it therefore make any difference whether there is a break between them or not? I've taken it out from between the categories and search (within the same box div) as this gave rise to quite a big gap and it looks better without it, but that's perhaps not the best reason to remove it. Your help is appreciated as is your patience in explaining in a way that I've been able to easily grasp, follow and implement. Thank you.
  24. Good morning and thank you! That is indeed what has happened. I can see now looking at the code I posted above that the u6 container with the item photo and link was 20% too wide, forcing the container with the price and unit price - that should snuggle beside it on the right within the larger u8 enclosing them - underneath it. I never would have found that without a fresh pair of eyes on the job. I've been returning to it for days and just wasn't thinking in the right way - and now you've pointed it out, it's glaringly obvious. When I stated confidently above that I hadn't messed with the grid measurements in grid.css, I genuinely believed it to be true. Within the duration of this thread, I'd done a check of all the files in the skin that I'd altered at all - only a handful as it happens - and I ran a comparison of my open grid.css with the original untouched copy and they were the same - hence I concluded that I hadn't messed with it. But I'm not sure which version I had open - it clearly wasn't the one on the server - which I must have changed at some time earlier in the year when I first changed the layout and I have no recollection whatsoever of doing that. So apologies for seemingly misleading you, I am normally meticulous in my methodology for handling files as I tinker with them and something went awry with that grid.css - it looks like the one I had open for reference was a backup of the original, not the one I'd obviously edited and uploaded. I closed them all down and started again and spotted that 70% in the 'working' copy. Second issue I've noticed: Whilst spending hours staring at the basket page, I did spot another very minor issue. On the left of the site pages there are the boxes that variously contain featured product, basket summary etc. Once in the basket itself, the box that was the basket summary on other pages is now empty and just shows a block of the background colour. It appears to do this with all the e-Tone skins, is that correct, or have I messed something else up? It's not very important, it just feels like it should have something in it. Many, many thanks for your help. I never would have found that by myself and I hoped someone else would be able to see where I'd gone amiss or if indeed there was an error in the code for the basket (which was what I was thinking it was). I can see how my error with the grid just didn't come to light on plainer text pages, but didn't stand up to the more complex grid arrangement on the basket page. Thank you!
