From what Jonathan said above does anybody know what he did - I have just spent the entire day trying to update my Test Store and I just keep hitting a wall. The Lettering Tool is not showing characters again, there no way I can even think about updating my main store at the moment, too many things are against me. I may be stuck on 5.2.5 forever I tried deleting everything and uploading 5.2.8 (in an attempt to solve another problem) - no lettering tool characters, then 5.2.7 again which should have worked as Brian made me a special revision of the Lettering Tool which WAS working before today. I am sure I have got rid of what ever Jonathan did and as I have no clue what it might have been I am well and truly stuck. I tried Two windows of FireFTP but that does my head in, doesn't seem to make any sense - everything gets written to the root and I have to spend ages deleting all of that one by one. I want to copy the Live Store to the Test Store again, I may have to install FlashFXP onto a windows machine and do it that way. .. fxp installed on a windoze machine but thats taking forever - losing the will to live, its been 5 months since I started this project and I still cant open to the public. help !

This is great - I just set up a free account for testing. You just add a simple code in the oLark plugin under 'Live Help' in admin

No Al, unfortunately it has always been like this - I was going to just put up with it as it was. I was really very very happy to see you were addressing this issue as when I offered my site for testing this was a major complaint

ok, using Firebug I will take a screenshot of the cookies as I go through the checkout process, at each stage. I cleared the cookies on my machine and what was displayed in Firebug - shame I cant get that Firebug window onto another screen but I will muddle through. At Checkout. At Paypal, pre-login. At Paypal - Logged in. Back to store - Logged out. I hope that is what you need.

It's running, had no problems - even my 'Lettering Tool' (thanks to Brian's revision of it anyway) is working. And this is probably something I am doing BUT, when I go to Paypal (sign in, make sure the delivery address is correct) and hit Continue - I am sent back to my store (Great) but have to log into my account there again. So, somehow I am getting logged out of my Cubecart account when I go to Paypal ! I always clear the cache these days as a matter of course.

Brian, I completely understand that I am a complete PITA, I just want/need to understand how things work - I only post here when I am stuck. My goal is to have a 'Simple' website but unfortunately I made the mistake of choosing the wrong developer to create a tool for me. I am quite happy to send you the complete module, and do expect to pay you for your help - in the long run this will save me time and, certainly stress. I will pack it now and offer it in a PM if it will help. All I wanted to do was start a small business - the Website was supposed to give me no problems but has turned out to be the worst thing I have ever done (Not CC, but the bad choices I made in trying to save a few quid).

On the Test Store, the tool just doesn't appear at all: http://test-store.greyprint.co.uk/index.php?_a=letter I'm thinking before I can test the update properly I will need to clone the 'Live' store again and make sure all is well before proceeding. I think it was just a case of using a database backup from the Live store and applying it to the 'Test' but the 'Database Message' I got when updating the Test has me a bit worried - I wonder what that could have meant ! It was something along the lines of "You are using 5.2.7 but your database is still using 5.2.5 - please use the 'Setup' again". ** Rather than messing about with that maybe I should just update the 'Live' store and see what happens ? the reason I asked about it here is because a 'Tweak' we made for 'Hiding a category' may have clashed with the new update..

I see 5.2.7 I wonder what the implications are for me though, with the changes we have made to 'Hide' the Lettering tool ? I just upgraded my 'Test Store' and the Lettering Tool is not appearing even though I made it visible. When upgrading I had a message (Database is using 5.2.5 and you are now using 5.2.7 so use the 'Setup' which I did). I'm tempted to go ahead and upgrade the 'Live Store' just to see what happens

ok, shall I set the 'Hide' in 'Structure' to 0 as default again and go back and set each new Category to 1 now ? I was awaiting your response but you have more than likely got Side Tracked.

We did, so that the 'lettering products' would be hidden. The 'lettering' products are the only thing I would want hidden - so if we set the default back to 0 would that solve the problem ? and keep the Lettering Products hidden ? .. actually, no it wouldnt as the new Lettering Products would keep appearing as they were created by a customer. I dont mind setting the visibility in the database as I add new categories if thats what it will take ?

The new categories DO appear in the CC_Category of the database. I am getting a Blue banner at the top 'Category Successfully Created' (Not Green). I notice that in the 'Hide' column I have a 1 in the newly added categories

It was Enabled - Disabled it. Cleared the cache but still no new Categories appearing The thing is, everything was working properly the last time I added a new category ! .. Just tried this in my 'Test Store' and it is working as expected.

So, I need to add a new Category to my store - simple ? no, not for me. This is probably something to do with changes I have had to make as a result of this poor 'Lettering Tool' Disaster. I need to add a category 'Motorcycle Decals' and within this category I need to list the various Motorcycle manufacturers: Honda. Kawasaki etc Created the 'Motorcycle Decals' category no problems but when it comes to adding a sub category I cannot see 'Motorcycle Decals' in the drop down list of available sections to put my new manufacturer into. I tried another test category and still the same - no new categories are showing in this drop down list If I had any hair left it would have all been pulled out by now It must be something simple again.

Ah, Brilliant Brian - it's just a case of learning where to look for this info. Got it I managed to hide that 'Lettering' product showing up by not having it under any parent category ! Because we hid it Just not sure what changed so it was visible again.

Thanks for the detailed response as ever Brian - I think I follow it. I'm trying to work out what is degrading the 'Category' image here: http://nikgrey.com/demo-images/degraded.jpg At the top is the cat image I selected from within the 'Images' tab (from my selection of uploaded images for the site) in the category edit section - this shows as 'Other Products' at the bottom of my pages. The image below is the same image, but I added it to the main body of the same category page - as you can see, this second image (placed on the page) is a lot sharper than the same image being used for the 'Category' thumbnail. I can only Use One image for the thumbnail as CC does shrink it to the size required for the thumbnail BUT as you can see it is no longer sharp - I have the Two images there for comparison. This image is 650px wide (as per Brian's advice above). I really must have sharp images where possible due to the nature of the products I am hoping to sell, poor images will reflect badly on everything. So, How can I get my category images to remain sharp when appearing at full size on the category description page I wonder ? .. Just noticed a 'Lettering' product is appearing at the bottom of this page as another product in this category - this lettering tool is going to be an ongoing problem.. cant afford to have it made again though so will just have to manage it the best I can. Lesson learned, always use a developer who knows CC5. edit: The 'Lettering' had made its self 'Visible' again - I have turned it off again but nothing is being added to the cart

I noticed that my 'Lettering' products were appearing in the 'Featured Products' box again after doing more testing - I re-visited Brian's Excellent instructions above and realised I had missed a step.. corrected that omission and now everything is working as I had hoped
