  1. The very least you should do is register your business probably as a sole proprietorship. You ss# will be your tax id and you will have to file quarterly tax returns. Pay Pal will ask for your ss# in any case when you sign up. You should keep it really simple for now as you have no idea how well your product will do. So spend as little as you can for now and you can always upgrade your company as things begin to take off. You will need your business certificate to open a bank account. At this point you might want to not register as a business but wait to see how things go. You can always register at any time. Pay Pal will use your personal checking account for transactions.

  2. You can just add it to your index.php but it will show on every page. If you do a search for counter there is a thread posted awhile ago about an alternative way of adding it. CC has a beautiful stats mod accessed from Admin CPL and it can be gotten from here:http://www.cubecart.com/site/forums/index.php?showtopic=5194

  3. I was always unhappy with having to have these but they are a necessary evil. I used to have a couple of pages on my portal but then I discovered that they worked perfectly as documents inside the store. I just named them Links Exchange 1 & 2 and I can add as many as I need. They line up really well and are alot easier to edit then they ever were in my Netfusion portal. http://www.vitaminlink.net/cart

  4. I guess you can always replace your index.php with your backup copy or download the latest release and extract index.php from that and upload it to your server.

I needed the space for html since categories are listed already.

  5. I am less than enthused about the layout of CC. I think there is a waste of valuable space and it seems as though some other e-commerce developers like OsCommerce have seen this and have tried to make it work a little better. My main peev is the categories box that sits in the middle of all that lovely real estate. It is just a duplicate of the category box to the left of it. How I would love to reclaim that territory for images and text. I'm sure there's a way to do it...I just haven't looked hard enough yet.

The people who populate this board and help neophytes like me are wonderful in their willingness to help. Don't get me wrong I am not knocking the software or the concept, I am just trying to make it work a little better for me.

I sell a product and try to do it as professionally as I can. My worst fear is that my site will look like a thousand others. The default customization offerings like background color, etc are not interesting. I don't care what color it is...its what is in front of the background that interests me.

Plopping an IFrame there doesn't ineterst me but having the whole space be an html frame would be. I could put images there linked to wherever, I could highlight new products with links to checkout.

Maybe all this can be done and I just don't know how to do it. I am a bit shy about asking for help again and again.

Hopefully some of the changes I have made like moving the search box to the category box on the left will help someone else.

CC would work very well as open source so it can constantly evolve. The people here are doing a great job.

  6. Thank you for your replies. I can track customers because they pay by Paypal or credit card. I can see registration as a valuable post sales tool and the express checkout appeals to me. I will search for that Mod.

  7. I'm wondering if having customers register to use the site has any negative connotations. Would a site seem more friendly and easier to navigate if customers did not have to register first? I ask this because I am trying to give my store every edge I can to make it more user friendly. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

  8. Greetings. I am not new to forums by any means but totally new to php and shopping carts. I have just installed Cube Cart as a free shopping cart from my host to sell vitamins online. I have 3 domains online, all in html and I look forward to learning this by the good old 'try and try again' method. I'm glad this board is here and I'll just browse and learn until I can offer something of value if you don't mind. :D
