  1. chmod is not done in File Manager. You need an FTP client such free Filezilla. Once connected that way, you right click on the file or folder that is to be changed. You will get a filed telling you the current setting. You may edit that. Typically, you would be changing to allow a file or even an entire folder and its subfolders and its files to be writable (0777 or simply 777). Before OKing the edit take care that you have correctly selected if the change will be to the entire folder and its subs, or just the level you are at. Also, understand that certain folders and files should be changed only temporarily. If left open permanently a hacker might find them and that's like leaving you home door unlocked.
  2. Yes. look for a Linux server that includes cPanel. See my PM I'm now guessing that it's a windows server. There are two places to place files with plus.net. One gets uploaded (simple html files) to your 'normal' webspace and for scripts they get uploaded to your cgi webspace. Until you upload anything, there are no files of any extension. You upload to your docs folder anything you want or for scripts to cgi.plus.com. I expect I have this badly wrong and assumed you could upload it to the free webspace you are given by your ISP (who still claim it would work from my cgi space if the index.php didn't have errors). maybe my next step should be finding webspace on a linux server then? James
  3. what is the URL of that hosting service? And which of their plans are you subscribed to? And I must repeat, everything you have reported about what your ISP says is 100% wrong. On a Linux server there is no file or folder called "normal" nor is there one called CCGI. There should be one called public_html. But at this point, I am suspecting strongly that you are on the wrong kind of s server. That's why I need to know the answer to the first two questions above before we go any further.
  4. It's your ISP that is wrong. Hundreds of thousands of instances of CC3 have been installed using those instructions. I can't tell from your description exactly what you have done because you are describing things in general terms. When you say you have uploaded "to my publicly accessible folder" I am not going to assume it is the same place as the folder labeled "public_html." For all I know you may have uploaded to a folder of some other name. Also, we need to confirm that you are on a Linux server (or more specifically, NOT on a Windows server). Does your server offer cPanel? Let's start by clarifying that stuff and we'll go on from there.
  5. Exactly which image? With sincere respect, if you are asking someone to help you with this issue, you will improve the chances of a useful reply by telling us that basic fact. If you do not already know how to be specific and, assuming you are on a Windows computer, put your cursor over the image and right click. The small window that opens will include a link that will capture the image path. You could then paste that into your message. By the way, still on the subject of information - and running the risk of unasked-for advice - why would anyone order a food product online without knowing essential infomation such as 1) where is the product coming from and by what delivery method? 2) when will it ship? 3) what guarantee does one have of quality and satisfaction? 4) is it shipped hot, ready to eat on delivery? Frozen? 5) what are the ingredients? Does it contain items that some may not accept, such as transfat, sugars, salt, pork, preservatives, artificial coloring and flavors - or will it appeal to consumers who are concerned about those ingredients? 6) the About Us page really has nothing about who the merchant is, where he is located, what is his experience, etc. As you can see, like the first issue, there's an awful lot of assumptions and lack of essential information. Sorry if I sound scolding, but I think these issues matter. After you post the image info, I will do my best to help you. I'm leaving shortly and will not be back on line until late this evening but perhaps someone else will step up before I return. BTW - which image manipulation tool do you have available? Photoshop? Something else?
  6. I host quite a few CC shops (mostly v3). About 3/4 weeks ago, I upgraded our servers to the current versions of both PHP and MySQL. Not one has reported a problem. Also, be aware that if your host offers cPanel, you can adjust which version of those items are applied to that installation.
  7. Flakes of what? The place to find a third-party designer IS CubeCartForums.org, not in this forum (which is why CCF.org exists). Flakes as in that they've given quotes that suddenly double the next day and agree to begin working on my website today but I haven't heard from them at all. And these are different people. Actually I've just started looking at local colleges for programmers. I just wanted to check here to see if any other CC users might have had a recommendation. Aside from being in the wrong forum, a fact that could have been recognized by reading the pinned introductory postings of pre-posting advice, such broad criticism and name calling is not a good way to introduce yourself. What you may not be aware of is that many of the "flakes" are frequenters of both forums. Also, most of those with whom you have contact at the support level know and respect each other. Once in while, we have found a bad actor among us and quickly administered frontier justice to their membership. But when everyone you encounter in a group like that is a "flake," there's a good chance something else is going on. A mirror might come in handy right now. I sincerely wish you well in your search.
  8. Hello, yes, they all have this exact structure. I really don't know where the mistake can be found. Thank you, Inez OK, as regards structure but does your new skin have THREE folders? I so, have you asked the creator of the skin about your issue? Hello, they do have three folders. As I've tried several skins from differents designers and all behave in the same way it must be something else. Maybe something is wrong with my setup? I really don't know what it could be. The other skins (Classic, Legend, Killer) work. So it is not just this skin that is an issue? That is really relevant information that should have been stated earlier. If I understand you now, you have not been able to install any skin and have it work. Is that the case? Yes, it is the same with every skin I want to install. I'm sorry, I mentioned this before, maybe you have overread it Thank you, Inez Not being able to install any skin is a totally different issue from a problem with one skin. As for my "missing" that fact, I've gone back over your original posting and read each subsequent one. Only now that you make it explicit that this problem affects every attempted skin installations, do I see how you may think you made that clear - but you really did not. The word every only appears now. I respectfully suggest that you avoid commenting on what you perceive to be the shortcomings of those trying to help you. The fundamental principle of communication is the the effectiveness of any message is 100% the responsibility of the sender. As for the next step in finding the cause of the failure of any of your skins to be functional, this might be the time to ask one of the CC experts here if they would take a look at whatever is on your server. They would need FTP access. That kind of stuff is usually done either in these forum's PM system or by direct email. Hope that helps you.

  11. Thank you so much for trying to help me! Okay, I used Filezilla: I uploaded the unzipped folder containing all the files for the new skin to this folder: /public_html/shop/skins When I open this folder in my cpanel I get all the skin folders (Classic, Killer, Legend and my new skin), when I click on the folder of my new skin it opens, giving me two other folders called Style images and Style templates. When I click on Style templates there are the files boxes, content, global, popup. When I click on global two files cart. tpl and index.tpl open. That's it in fact. Any ideas? Thank you, Inez I'm going to take a guess (don't have time to confirm) that your new skin upload is incomplete. Compare the folders for the other skins and you will note that there are more than two folders. There should be, for any CC skin I have ever seen, three folders (Images, Templates and Sheets).
  12. My apologies to Robsta for intruding. Tell us how you installed the skin. I mean using what method, by what application, step by step.
  13. the answer will have to wait until after I see your site. Please be patient while I work my way through the list. So far I have looked at 30 sites, and I don't think it is any of those. I estimate I have only 594,627,772,101 sites to go. If I get lucky I should find it in the first half of that batch. Meanwhile it would be a big help if all other web developers and hosting services would please stop creating new web sites until I find yours. They are making it more difficult than it needs to be.
  14. You did not say which folder you uploaded to. And have you confirmed that the folder does not exist on the server, in the correct folder?
  15. There is a web site where CC third-party suppliers are peer reviewed and vetted. The anti-advertising policy here rightly do not allow me to post that site in these forums. But if you will send me a Private Message (look for the link around here some where) I am permitted to tell you there. Good luck.
  16. Actually, there is another line in the global.in.php file where !famfun was appearing. On Rosta's advice I changed it to ? . Shortly thereafter, the admin reported joy. So that was the problem. This is an issue in the design of the installation program for CC3. I don't know about newer versions, but if you create the cart on a domain whose DNS has not yet been transferred, and then do the transfer, this is an issue. And now I know the cure. Robsta is the MAN!
  17. OOPs. There's still an issue. I can log in now, but 1) that ~famfun still is part of the URL 2) the two other admins still cannot log in. I think this ~famfun is generated in more than one place. I cannot find it in the database, but it may be there. Suggestions, please?
  18. CubeCart cart contains a file /includes/global.inc.php that is configured during installation. It is where the user, pw and the URL of the site are configured. When the site is created before the DNS is populated, the URL automatically is the IP#, plus the user. The syntax is IP/~user. Usually, it works. I have stores that have been runnning with no problem for years under that configuration. But something somewhere in the code has changed. Login attempts created a loop. Couldn't find the proper URL. So, I was simply dropped back at the Login GUI. The FIX: cPanel > File Manager > includes > global.inc.php > edit > replaced the ip/~ with the URL of the domain name > saved > logged in with no problem. Once, in the middle of a huge concert Saint Frank Sinatra (Peace Be Upon Him) sang an especially incredible note. And he sang it especially well. Even he was stunned at what he had done. He stopped singing. He waved the band to halt, turned back to the audience and said, "Damn, that was good." Frank, I know what you mean baby. I just had one of those moments.
  19. using current version of CC3. Site been working fine for about a month. No issues until now. The login is accepted, that is, there is no error message - but the login GUI returns, not the ACP. This is happening for the same store affecting two different admin accounts using different computers on different connections. Suggestions please? I have access to the database if that helps. Perhaps the URL rev4eals an issue that needs fixing? If so, how to do that? http://www.familyfunpowersports.com/~famfu...admin/index.php Note the ~familyfun. This happens when I create a CC site prior to the DNS transfer. Doesn't happen with other LAMP-based apps such as WordPress. Only CC. But this is the first time it's caused a lockout.
  20. What are all those little diamond-shaped symbols? In my text editor they change to "?"
  21. You're right, it is. I got confused, thought I was there. Robsta's advice is on target, but there is another way to accomplish something very much like that. See http://babiesnewpinkandblue.com. That was done in the Home Page editor by creating a table with the right number of rows and cells, installing a graphic for each and then linking each to its respective category. The store owner has chosen to retain Latest Products but that could easily be controlled in the CC/ACP. Oh, also, the skin has been edited to make the home page a two-column layout.
  22. Please look at the site http://75.127.110.64/~famfun/ (temporary address while under construction) and click on a few products. I am concerned that there are some issues with screenresolution that are causing certain product pages to display incorrectly. If yoiu see an issue, please give me the product number and your screen resolution.
  23. One way to do that is to make a graphic wide enough to contains that information. http://allironworks.com/ http://babiesnewpinkandblue.com/ http://rodriguezpuroscigars.com/
  24. I did, They did, Everyone is happy. Thanks Robsta!
  25. I have an interesting problem. I host a number of CC3 stores on my server. I just moved to a larger faster server to support my growing client base. All the web sites have been moved and all but one, a CC3, is operating properly. The DNS propagation is complete. I still have access to the old server as well. Take a look at http://vikolya.com Note that it resolves to a CC license and support order form. But I have normal access to vikolya.com/admin. The suggestion has been floated that the cause might be that the original installation has a paid license. I am almost positive it was. Possible cause is that the license is server IP specific. Moving to a new server has broken that original relationship and now defaults to the license page. Possible? If so, how can I get a new license or reactivate the old one to the new server IP?
