  1. This is a truly welcome post and long overdue. It's a simple, easy to follow, step by step tutorial on setting up CC for PayPal. But I have encountered at least one issue that needs clarification. The tutorial says, "click profile and then cleck API to set up a certificate. Fill in the information . . . " etc. That's not what I saw just a five minutes ago while trying to setup the API for a client's cart. The API certificate is not as readily available as that instructions suggests. You must log in to the client account, click on Merchant Tools > API > fill in an application and then PayPal returns a message saying they will contact you within 3 business days to notify you if the request is approved. I can only assume that the remain steps are valid, once you get the Certificate. BTW, I do agree completely with Cole that CC badly needs a soild user manual and a set of tutorials. Like many others who are supporting CC with registration payments, I'm doing so in the expectation that the funding will hasten that. With the release of CC3.04 the product is suffueciently mature and feature-rich that it's time for good documentation to become a priority. Until that need is satsfied, in my opinon, further development, other than bug fixes, would have limited value in making realizing its potential as the leader with the greatest installed base. I think CC is far ahead of everyome else but the messages in the support forum make it clear that docs and illustrated tutorials are long overdue.
  2. Since you did not say what is the exact problem, I found it only by comparing in FF and Ms/IE. FF and IE appear to interpret code differently, thus causing the header to appear differently. The header image size is 180px but the space defined for it (I think in layout.css) is only 116. So your soultion would be to either reduce the height of the image to 116px or increase the space to 180px in the CSS. I suggest the former. I believe that even a 116px header is a waste of valuable real estate. I think that 100px is plenty. While yours is a holiday theme, when 180px it is used on a commercial site to display a huge logo on every page, it is self defeating. It's like shouting at the customer, on every page, "SEE HERE, YOU BLIND TWIT. THIS IS THE GALACTIC HEADQUATERS OF A SOON TO BE FAMOUS ORGANIZATION THAT RIGHT NOW IS SUFFERING FROM LOGO INADEQUACY AND YOUR EYEBALLS ARE OUR VIAGRA." Also, images need to be run through Photoshop's "save for the web," or something else like it, that will accomplish the same byte reduction. Your header is more than 40KB, the size of what an entire home page should be for optimal download speed. The footer is more than half that and the box header images alone add up to more than the suggested max for a home page. All in all, your page KB total is about 3 times what is should be. And that's before you add in the Flash or some other content. We still live in dial-up world and ignore its users at the expense of losing their attention. Yes, it's a lovely design. Nicely done. But, take the final step of preparing the images and it will be perfect.
  3. Which CC Version? Which skin?

  5. I have a fair amount of experience with managing an IPB. I own a few registered IPBs myself and host a number of them. I've just written to Brooky and suggested that the process start with active and qualified Members agreeing on a suggested list of sub-Forums - and I've offered to do the work of creating them if I'm given the appropriate access to IPB's ACP. I've also suggested that once those sub-forums have been created, there are Members who would be willing to help the process of moving the varied threads of the current GS forum into the appropriate sub-forums. In trust that Brooky recognizes the need to upgrade the GS, I'm going to start by offering my own version of the list - and asking that others add a Reply that contains nothing but their own version of a list. Brooky will then have a few lists and decide which ones he wants installed. So, look at the next Reply and then add your own list.. BUT KEEP IT SIMPLE. Just a list - no rationale.
  6. The file popup.css apears to be the same as layout.css. What does it configure?
  7. Here's the results of what worked. Compare in both browsers: http://www.vikolya.com/store/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=1 I changed the width in .subcat from 110 to 120. The result, while not perfect, is an acceptable compromise. I wish that FF would read the width of the top row center as well as IE has. If I knew how to force it to, I would.
  8. The height of the editing window is way too small. At least it is for me, in both IE and Firefox. As th I open the editor and it loads, the editing area is approximately 150px high, itself already too low. But as soon as the editor finishes loading the editing area pops down to about 50x. There must be a way to increase the height of this mailslot. In looking at the CSS for the editor, I can not identify an element that configures this screen. Suggestions, please?
  9. The CubeCart ACP allwos you to configure three different PayPal services but I am now aware of any doc that explains how to choose. The problem is made almost opaue by not using the same terminology as PayPal. The CC choices are "PayPal Direct Payment" "PayPal Express Checkout" "PayPal Standard and IPN" But when ypou go to PayPal's web site to dec ide which is best for the particular store, you find that the types of accounts are: PayPal Website Payments Standard PayPal Website Payments Pro (USA only) - PayPal Email Payments PayPal as an Additional Payment Option (and BTW - they apparently will start charging for the second item on their list in about 3 weeks.) So which CC version maps to which PP version?
  10. Compare this page http://www.vikolya.com/store/index.php?act...0bc7ae6480e0570 in both MS/IE and Firefox. Why is the .subCat (skins > Legend > layout.css) padding not being accepted in Firefox? Anyone know of a way to make the layout look right in both browsers? Is there another config somewhere?
  11. Not so fast. I'm closer to my 73rd birthday than I am to my 72nd. But don't worry about Jennie. As lovely as she sounds, my own SO, red-headed Evelyn, is sitting over my shoulder right now. She's here in New York (actually across the river in NJ) for a visit, from her home in Manly, a suburb of Sydney, AU. She'll return there on Oct 25 but I'll join her there for the five weeks following that. We are getting serious about re-arranging our lives. Today we are discussing what will be involved in spending every Oct through March there in Manly (she has a lovely apartment less than 100 yards from Manly Beach). Then we'd spend every April through September here (I have a great apartment in Jersey City with a bus at the door that is 30 mins to Times Square). So, I have to admit, I was just bluffing. I have neither time nor energy for pursuit of the Jennies of this world (not to mention Evelyn's eagle-eye and no-nonsense atitude towards fidelity.)
  12. Me too. Please make it step by step and explain the choices. But please begin with a rationale as to when and why one would configure this page. The entire point of this configuration page is misleading and confusing. One does not "ship by weight" or "ship by percent." One ships by a *carrier* and by a *method* offered by that carrier (UPS ground; UPS Next Day; etc.) - and *they* determine the rate by weight and/or size as appllied to distance and method. They will not be guided by these rates and zones on this page. So then what is the point of using this configuration page if one is shipping by UPS or the USPS?
  13. See: http://www.vikolya.com/store/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=1 Where is the the light blue graphic area configured? I want to change the background color and extend the width to the same right hand margin as the banner. Also, I want to similarly configute the background color and width of this page http://www.vikolya.com/store/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=3 TIA

  15. Send photo of wife. Better deal possible. May be willing to add original disks of DOS 2.00. You pay postage. If she's a red head, forget I even mentioned it. :o
  16. I'd rather have one that does what it implies it will do.
  17. The doc editor really sucks. It flat out frustrates attempts to manage layout. The code it creates is fillled with errors. I went nuts trying to set the cells uniformly so each had all the same characteristics regarding alignment. See: http://www.vikolya.com/store/ In order top get these image placeholders to align, I had to create the layout in an HTML editor and paste it into the CC doc editor. Isn't there something better - something that works?
  18. As "they" say, Great Minds Run on the Same Track. I came to the General Support forum tonight to post a new topic suggesting that it should contain a sub-forum for Gateways, with a sub-sub-forum each of the popular Gateways such as PayPal, starting with a pinned tutorial on the differences between the 3 PayPal possibilities, plus tutorials on how to configure each. Since I'm now about to configure my first PayPal Gateway, I expect that I will have a lot of questions - as well as accumulate a lot of answers, all of which I am willing to resolve into the suggested tutorials and post i after I am done. I also can see a need for subforums in skining, such as one specific to using PhotoShop to create new graphic elements. I'd be glad to work on that one as well. I vote for sub-fourms and sub-subs.
  19. Brooky, Smart move. You see, when I lived in Chicago I made many "made" friends there. I do allow disagreement but not if it proffers an opinion other than mine. This time the kitchen . . . next time ????
  20. I hate it when that happens. That fixed it. Gotta start getting a few hours sleep every week.
  21. Thank you that worked. It got me past that step, But now I'm hung at the next one. I'm getting the error message: "MySQL Error Occured 1045: Access denied for user: '******@localhost' (Using password: YES)" (***** = the usernamne) Any idea what's wrong there? TIA
  22. On a fresh install into a new web site, at step two I am getting this error: QUOTE Warning: fileperms(): Stat failed for ../pear/tmp (errno=2 - No such file or directory) in /home/******/public_html/store/install/index.php on line 422 End Quote (****** = the user name which I have redacted) The eroor msg also says I should CHMOD this to 777 Line 422 says: $fileperms = substr(sprintf('%o', fileperms('../pear/tmp')), -4); But I can't see how to CHMOD it or make any edit that might fix the problem. Suggestions, please?
  23. If you have tried the newly liberated "Opera" browser, you have discovered what Firefox lacks. The features in "O" are breathtaking. It used to cost $40 or you had to put up with ads. This past week, the developers of "O" have removed the ads and dropped the paid version. Opera is now free. See "http://opera.com" O poor Firefox.
  24. I am speaking with a potential client who wants a normal Retail CC plus a Wholesale section that would be bascially the same products but with minimums and appropriate separate prices. I'm confident it can be done but I can see a number of possible ways to do it. So if anyone has suggestions, I'm open to advice. My first impulse is to create two different directories such as www. website.com/store/ and www. website.com/wholesale/ with the wholesale version installed in a password protected directory. Comments, suggestions, pitfalls, alternatives?
