  1. Now that I've gotten the solution to the sub-Cat display that distorts the background into the right column (thanks Brooky), I need to tackle managing the Latest Products disploay. Right now it is two across. I know there is a setting in CC3 - ACP for the quantity of Latest Products that are displayed - but how and where do I change that from two across to three across?
  2. As with most new releases, the development team will spend many sleepless nights dealing with support issues and undocumented features. The user interface is not mutually interactive and some communication issues may take years of tweaking before the entire system is reasonably stable and self-upgrading. But clearly both StyleSheet the Template are well done. May we assume that the development team is already planning v2? Many happy returns and/or line breaks!
  3. And how about the related issue of not being able to limit the sub-categories to 2 across. see: http://www.wendycostastudio.com/store/inde...iewCat&catId=30 I have this set to 2 in the general settings but it persists in displaying 3 across, thus distorting that cell. I've seen other users complaining about this but, if there has been a fix for it, I've missed seeing it. Anyone, please?
  4. You were right about the corrupted zip - I repeated the download and got the files you indicated. But I'm still in "literal-minded hell." The readme for CubeCart v3 3.0.0 to 3.0.1 // UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS starts out with a major assumption: "a. Upload every file to the server replacing your existing ones excluding: " What "every file" does that mean? All the files in the zip folder? All the files in the upgrade folder? All the files on my computer including all the encrypted porn I've been saving? See what I mean by "literal-minded hell" and the dangers of assumptions? Seriously, the first two are possible meanings but there could be others outside my limited imagination. I firmly believe that software manuals and instructions should NEVER be written by the programmers. They make all kinds of assumptions that a professional writer of instructions would never make. That's not a reflection of the intelligence or skills of programmers. They are simply not capable of separating what they know from what others do not know. The resulting assumptions permeate and doom their attempts at communication with those of us who do not know what they know. That's why there are professional technical writers. Writing instructions into something broadly useful is as much a skill as the ability to write code. I'd really like to have a set of instructions that did not make the assumptions such as the current one does. I doubt I'm the only literal-minded (maybe simple-minded is an even more accurate term) person in the neighborhood who is frustrated by the assumptions in these instructions. So I'm still stuck on how to proceed - and beginning to wonder if I should. Brooky - if you are reading this - don't take offense - I love the product - and I know you are pouring everything you have into it every day. You are one hell of a programmer and CC shows it - but you are not a manual or how-to writer. And if someone here who knows how to make the upgrade could provide more precise step-by-step instructions, I would be genuinely and humbly grateful.
  5. Thank you Martin, but I don't know what you are seeing that I'm not. I downloaded 3.01 and discovered there are NO instructions at all of any kind at all in the upgrade folder. Just three folders of some unexplained purpose and use, each containing only an identically named file "upgrade.php." Should I try to install all of them? I think not. So, aside from the fact that I don't know if 3.01 fixes the 3.00 bug that is bugging me the most (the inability to limit the Category display to two columns of centered icon) I think I'll have to pass on "upgrading" to 3.01 - and I am frustrated. I frankly don't know what to do from this point. There does not appear to be an upgrade tool and whatever has been provided is totally opaque. I cannot do the upgrade - and I have no real reason to do so since I have not encountered any of the bugs 3.01 addresses - and yet I have an online store that I want to get online within the next week. I really like CC but if I can't make it work . . . I'm going to sleep on this and then decide if I should . . . (don't want to even say it at this point).
  6. I suffer from a high degree of literal use of the language. I take words as meaning what they say. I am a perfect example of the folly of assumptions. This causes me no end of problems. I'm seeing references to 3.01 "upgrade" from 3.00 when, as far as I can determine, there is no such thing. All I can find is a reinstall that involves a complete replacement of 3.00 with 3.01. Or is it DUH time again? Is there an upgrade file that installs the changes of 3.01 without requiring a compelet reinstall to replace 3.00? If so, it's not on the download page. Are there upgrade (the emmis?) instructions somewhere that I've missed? How can I install 3.01 without losing all my work in skinning and settings and TPLs and CSS and so on that I've done in 3.00?
  7. The bug that I'm hoping to learn has been fixed in 3.01 is the issue of displaying three sub-categories across when I have set it for 2. see: http://www.wendycostastudio.com/store/inde...iewCat&catId=30 This causes the box to expand outside the denter box defintion. Has it been fixed in 3.01 or not? Thanks
  8. Is that a yes or a no? I've invested many hours in this site - and am now tediously populating the inventory so I need unequioval assurance that I am not going to lose it all. http://www.wendycostastudio.com/store/ Yes or no, please?
  9. Exactly which country is that? Certainly not the USA. BB only passed the halfway mark vs DU just a few weeks ago - and that statistic is greatly misleading because it it skewed heavily to schools and businesses where BB is a common standard. If you isolate consumers at home, the percentage still on dialup is more like 75%. That's why the heavy-weights - such as Yahoo and MSN, Google and most media pages - all of whom know a few things about designing for users' optimal experience, consider 8 seconds on a 56k modem the Gold Standard. It is widely and well researched that 50% of visitors have bailed out at 20 seconds and another 50% bail out every 5 seconds after that until you get to the rabbit and hare minimum of 5% of what you started with at 1 minute. Which is not far off your download time. Your primary graphic, that yellow car, takes up a huge chunk (150px) of the most valuable real estate on a web page. And it is 69,793 bytes. Running it through Photoshop's "save for the web" feature would do it a lot of good without affecting the quality of the display, even at those dimensions. I got it down to 12k at 50% which works out to about 5 seconds download on a slow 56k connection. And it looked just as good as the bloated file. The discipline of designing for the least well equipped user can do wonders for a web site.
  10. Editing, Deleting and Creating Site Docs is pretty straight forward. CC Admin CP > Documents > Site Docs A dialog opens that lists the SDs and offers basic commands to edit, delte or add. You can delete any exisitng doc or (look in upper right corver) add a new doc. The Editor is not the greatest - and the editor window height isway inadequate - but you can create your text in any other editor, then copy/paste it into that window. If you want to format the text, but are frustrated by that small window and the jerky action of the editor scroll, again, use a thrird party HTML editor but before you paste the code, click on the editor icon for "source" and then paste. Submit and you have a new Site Doc.
  11. That area is all well and good - and I hope it grows - but it doesn't include a link to a demo. I'm reluctant to install a mod that I cannot first check out.
  12. Friday (GB) = very late Thursday (USA). Good news. Go Brooky . . .
  13. Thanks for the response. I must hold off trying it out while waiting for CC Tech Support to address a weird bug (reported elsewhere) that is leaving "ghost" products on the store. But I'm hoping they'll do that today so I can move on with the rest of the project. Joe
  14. I can't log into the Bug report section so I'll have to post here. I've encountered what I think are bugs in Category Admin. First of all, if you assign a graphic to a Category and them want to not have one, there is no way to do that. At first I thought I found a work around by opening the dialog for adding a graphic - and them not selecting one. That semed to do it, but when I tried it a second time, the hraphic disappeared but I wound up with a mess. The number of products in that Category is now reported as (-301824) . And, After I deleted the Category to start again, there are Products but no Category. If Brooky or someone he will assign wants access to my system for confirming it, please ask in a PM. Thanks EDITED - Sorry - I can't hold up work on my project so I'll have to erase all the Categories and Products and start again. But if anyone wants to recreate the situation I'll be glad to co-operate. 2nd edit - It definitely is a bug. I am showing Products that wehn clicked on return "No Product" - and they do not show in any catgory. They do not show in the product list and - so far - I have not found a way to delete them.
  15. Thanks to the good support of Twsited and a few others (you know who you are - and I thank you), I've gotten pretty far along in skinning my client's site. But I just discovered that the Registration page header has not been edited as the orhers were. See: http://www.wendycostastudio.com/store/cart...%2Findex.php%3F Where is that header edited - and I'm curious as to why it is not edited as the others are?
  16. Please see the page: http://www.wendycostastudio.com/store/inde...viewCat&catId=2 I'd like to either remove or reduce the width of that light blue background that is around the product image. Which file would I edit to accomplish that?

What is your source for those stats? In looking at monitors in the schools where I teach and business offices that I visit, I don't see those stats. But I'm open to learn. Sources, please?
  18. I understand that you do not think that CC's skin CCS files are difficult to figure out but let me put this in perspective . . . English is my native language. I live in a community that is roughly 1/3rd Hispanic so I hear it around me all the time. I once lived for 3 and a half years in a Caribbean island and spoke it every day, all day long. Therefore, it comes somewhat easily to me. I can think in Spanish and say something in Spanish without having to first translate it from English. But I learned my German 55 years ago in high school. I've been able to use it only as a soldier sattioned in Germany in the early 50s and again for a few years as a businesman in Eastern Europe in the early 70s. But lacking daily practice, I first have to think through what I want to say in German, rummage around in my brain for half-forgotten vocabulary and then translate it from English before I can say it. So it is with CC and it's CSS and its templates. It's easy for you because you are focused on it, perhaps every day - but not for me - and not for most newcomers. A CSS and TPL guide such as the one available for IPB would be a huge boost in making CC more accessible and boost its popularity. For another of what is possible in a skinning guide (and I think this one is a superb use of Flash) see: http://docs.invisionpower.com/css/board_in...oard_index.html But I'd settle for a CC Skinning Guide like the IPB version mentioned in my first message. Anyone, please?
  19. I'm trying to add the Site Docs links that are now at the bottom of the cart to the Information Box on the left side of the store. But I can't figure out how to make them visible. I've edited INFO.TPL as shown below but nothing is showing up. Or am I in the wrong place? Anyone, please? (<!-- BEGIN: info --> <div class="boxTitleLeft">{LANG_INFO_TITLE}</div> <div class="boxContentLeft"> <span class="txtCopy"> <strong>{LANG_INFO_PRODUCTS}</strong> {DATA_NO_PRODUCTS}<br /> <strong>{LANG_INFO_CATEGORIES}</strong> {DATA_NO_CATEGORIES}<br /> <strong>{LANG_INFO_PRICES}</strong> {DATA_CURRENCY}<br /> <strong>{SITE_DOCS}</strong> {DATA_SITEDOCS}<br /> </span> </div> <!-- END: info -->)
  20. What is anyone using to edit TPLs? I'm using MS / Front Page. Less than satisfactory but it's what I got. Suggestions?
  21. I'm trying to avoid leaving the client's email address unavailable for spambots by channeling contacts through a server side form. Please see: http://www.wendycostastudio.com/store/inde...viewDoc&docId=2 You'll see a test form I've started but note that Submit does nothing. The CC Site Docs editor offers a form maker but there doesn't seem to be any way to define how the form works - that is where the data should go via email. Does anyone have script for a Contact Us form that will work on this page?
  22. I see your well-taken points but I still think it should be an easily exercised option. Were I designing the opt-in form I would include the reasons you have stated and let the customer decide.
  23. It just occurs to me - here in New York it is 5:30am - that so much of CC is based in Great Britain. And I hope it is not inapparopriate to put on the record, belatedly because I was away for five days, a note of compassion and support and admiration for all there in BG. If you have not already seen it, I suggest a look at the web site http://www.werenotafraid.com/ I am old enough to recall, when it was going on, the courage and defiance of Winston Churchill and the Britsh people in the face of barbarism. So it's no surpise to discover that this generation is putting those same sentiments online with humor (OK - "humour") and determination. Rule Britannia!
  24. I need to change the font colors for the login and registation Welcome Guest [Login | Register] Also I need to change the font vcolor for the word "Search" In which CSS element are they controlled?
  25. I wish someone here who would create a skinning guide that identifies, in illustration, which CSS element in the skin are controlled by which code. Those of you familiar with Invision Power board (the software that supports this CC forum) will know what I mean. For example - see the IPB SG: http://customer.invisionpower.com/downloads/css_v2/ Whoever does this for CC3 would be the hero of the rest of us. Right now I must laboriously edit likely code and then reload to see if that's what I really wanted - and for some weird reason, those changes don't seem to take place right away (probably need to clear my cache - yet another hassle.) It would be so much easier if I knew beforehand for sure that I'm editing the appropriate element . Now I must go post a few questions that the above would make un-necessary . . . .
