  1. There is both a thread and a mod for this. Use search. I'm pretty sure it was written by someone who referred to it as a "catalouge" mod, thereby reveal his origins. I have web site using it whose construction is stalled by the client's delays in supplying materials Photos, text, etc.). See www.kitocigar.com. If it's not here in these forums, try cubecartforums.org.
  2. You may have to ask the USA, India and few other former colonies how they managed that. There are a variety of methods, many of them violent. But the historical record shows that negotiation also works, as exemplified by various situations such as Hong Kong, many Caribbean islands and so forth. BTW - you're not writing from Gibralter or Northern Ireland are you? There may be trouble. (Apologies to our good cousins in "the special relationship." But I think it only fair turnabout after almost choking myself to death laughing at the John Cleese-instigated offer to accept us back under the protection of The Crown that includes the requirement that we restore the letter "u" to labor, flavor, etc. and stop calling football "soccer." If you haven't ever seen it, click here.) Now perhaps someone with a less silly mind can answer this chap's plaintive, if questionable, issue . . .
  3. Well, sort of. No matter if you are installing on an Internet server or your local server (which Easy PHP and other tools provide) you still need to create the database properly and completely. The point of my post is that the error message is caused by a failure to do the essential last step of creating the Db. That must be done either using the MySql tool in cPanel or the tool that is included in the EasyPHP package. Joe
  4. I pretty much agree with everything webicon said. I especially concur that the banner takes up too much height. I'd go for nothing higher than 90px but I think that 60px high would be even better. Given that the same banner appears on every screen, there is no need for it to be any more than a discrete reference point. I would put the Sale items box (right side) just below the shopping cart box. My point is that it's a stronger buying incentive than whatever is in Most Popular. Next, I would be reluctant to publish that link to Sigma, even in a new window. Consider how much precious effort it takes to bring a user to your web site. Once you have a visitor, the pluses and minuses of referring them to another web site, even if it is that of your principal resource, deserve careful attention. I clicked on the link and noted how very well Sigma - as it is to *their* benefit - helps visitors find a nearby dealer and even provides a comprehensive list of internet web sites other than than yours, in which to shop. And your site is not on that list. Even if I had a top-of-the-list business name such as "AAAA LOWEST PRICE BEST SERVICE, LTD" and even if I offered immediate free delivery of the most complete inventory of Sigma products and offered the very best prices and so on, I still would be hard-pressed to justify making that list of competitors so readily available from my web site. My marketing philosophy would present my own site as the PRIME SOURCE and everyone else be damned with silence, even the manufacturer. Of course, that requires that the product information on my own site be as complete as what a person would find on the factory site to preclude any need to go there and be exposed to my competitors' links. In your About Us page, you have a link to your photography work. That's a good idea, but I would open that link in a new window. Again, it's back to, why lose the contact at the store once you have got it? By opening in another window you improve your chances of inviting a purchase. Also, as soon as you can, I would put a much greater effort into the content of that About Us page. So far, there is nothing there that would give me confidence to send my serious money to your site. I would need to know more facts about who you are, where you are and why I should trust you. You obviously have a first class background in the field as can be seen on your photography page. Take advantage from that. Find a way to include some personal information that assures the prospective customers that you are not just another web site. Put in a few photos of you and/or your staff or your customers in casual and human situations. Make yourself real and genuine and accessible. Talk about why you are selling stuff. Talk about why your customers are happier with you than anywhere else. Give prospects an emotional reason beyond low price. Finally, one minor design flaw (my opinion, of course) of the otherwise excellent CC themes, is putting the site docs at the bottom of the screen where they are thus presented as afterthoughts of little importance. On every one of the of the 8 or so CC stores I've built and host, I move the site docs up to a box in the left column, usually above currency and language. Those site docs are more important in encouraging a sale than the default design assumes. There are tutorials here and on the cubcartforum.org site for doing that. But here's one example of how it looks (see the Information box): http://itsgreektomejerseycity.com OOPS - one more thing, I hope you will eventually support CC by paying for the copyright renewal. Hope all of this helps . . . Joe
  5. The problem is a totally inadequate GUI in cPanel that - as I have said before - is an object lesson in the pitfalls of allowing programmers to write instructions or design user interfaces. Their superior knowledge leads to the assumption that everyone else knows what is required. In simple terms, this is called "arrogance." The cPanel interface for creating a database is perhaps one of the worst ever. It would be greatly improved by the simple addition of a numerical sequence label next to each of the FOUR buttons. The problem is that the FOURTH step in creating a new Db is not obvious. Here's the cure: http://buildinghosting.com/CC_Step3_cure.htm Hope this helps.
  6. Off hand, if memory serves, this will be the 8th or 9th time the following link has been posted in these forums over the last two years or so. http://buildinghosting.com/CC_Step3_cure.htm Hope that helps.
  7. Did you find and read the easyPHP tutorials here and on the other web site?
  8. Do a search on "easyPHP" It's a lot simpler than the tools yo mentioned. There also a tutorial for it on cunbecartforums.org in the documetation section
  9. I am having same issue. How can I get the customer's phone number included in the email that notifies the admin of the new order?
  10. send me a PM with the user name and pw for your FTP accounts. I'll put up a temp page for you. It's now 2:40am here on east coast. I'll be up until around 3:15 or so and then up again around 7am. If you get this message when I'm not up, maybe someone else will step up.
  11. I have CC 3.0.16 configured to require phone number at registration. So far, so good. Some customers also include a Cell Phone # which is very helpful for making deliveries. But the phone number does not appear on the email notice that contains the details of the New Order. How to get both those numbers to appear on the email that comes in? TIA
  12. Aside from whatever anyone may answer in terms of the approach you have requested, there is a simple alternative. Redirect /index.html to /shop/. If your hosting service offers cPanel, there's an icon on the cPanel Home Page labled, "Redirect." Just make sure you select the "Permanent" option. Good luck!
  13. My headshot conceals the vast spaces I occupy . . . well, maybe only half-vast ;-) I have pw protected hidden forums in a Mybb forum. Works fine. Good luck with whatever you choose. If you find something not already mentioned, please share it.
  14. After having an IPB site (paid) hacked and they refused to supply a patch unless I paid again, I stopped using them. SWF is very nice, but just too simple. There are some basic tools that, if they exist, I never found, such as the ability to delete spam messages, so I stopped using that. Next was phpBB. All went well until a troll found a security hole. The fourms were destroyed, too much trouble repair the script. I now use and recommend Mybboard.org. So far no problems. Themes are as easy to install as plugins. Easy to customize. See two different approaches. This one I simply customized the default theme by editing a few of the graphics. It's only been online a few days so there's zero activity This one uses a very slightly customized version of one of their selection of free themes. Their support forums are not as active as they should be, but in general, I'm pleased. Good luck
  15. Even though I think the method of editing the General Settings is a simpler way of editing the store name, this second response is a good example of the kind of step by step method of presenting advice that I wish I would find more often when I ask for help. There is an incident behind my querulous comment. I am trying to install a high end and powerful wireless card in my laptop. The installation has hit a very specific sticking point. The responses I'm getting the various forums do not tell me how to solve the problem. They just tell me that such and such a setting should include such and such. That is totally useless information to anyone other than an expert who does not have the problem anyway.
  16. I am taking a great risk here of hurting Webicon's feelings - and that is not my intention. Please accpet my apologies and disclaimer in advance. But this is a perfect opportunity to address an issue that bugs me in support forums of all kinds of products. I am a newbie in many things. I use support forums a lot. Too often I get answers from well-intentioned and knowledgeable people who have valuable information but are unable to see the issue through the eyes of the person who asks. There are two ways to offer help for a problem. One is to state the conclusion or results on the assumption that the person with the problem knows how to acheive those results once they are stated. The other is to give the steps to the solution in a systematic, consistent and foolproof format. The first method often leads to followup questions while the questioner tries to apply the results. The second method solves the problem for anyone who sees the response, even those with limited knowledge. In this case, the second method would be: Go to yourwebsite.xxx/admin > login > Navigation > General Settings > Store / Company Name > replace th default with your store or business name > scroll down and click on Update Settings. Note: While you are that page, take note that you also can change Browser Title and Email Name. So, please - to all - not just Webicon - whom I respect and whose wilingness to share I sincerely appreciate - when offering support that calls for a "how to" response - please provide the "how to", not the "where it is" or "how it should look." Again, my apologies if offense is taken; none is intended.
  17. Does anyone know why Fantastico continues to offer 3.0.15, even though 3.0.17 has been available for months? Or are they not aware of the newer version and need to be informed of it?
  18. Go to your PayPal account and send her an invoice. She will be ale to respond with payment.
  19. There is another possibility, too. You may have products in more than one category. I installed that mod and discovered that the shipping cost that is applied is determined by the primary category for the product. In the test I did, I had products that were in a primary category - let's say, Category A - and then I used the Manage Categories feature to define certain of them as also being in Category B. When those items were bought, even though they had been searched for as Category B products, at checkout, the shipping rate for Category A was what applied. So, if that is another possible reason why shipping costs by category prices might be inconsistent.
  20. A client's store has multiple categories anmd few hundred products in each I need to totally duplicate a certain category using all the same products and prices, everything identical. (I agree it's an odd request but it's the best way to apply certain charges related to how the goods are packed and shipped.) I'm guessing this might be doable in the database using phpmyadmin. Advice, please? Tips? (yes, of course, dB backup to start with). And if you are feeling especially helpful, a step-by-step would earn serious gratitude up to and including first born who is gainfully employed, only gets drunk-sick on weekends and has been trained to smoke his cheap cigars outside in all kinds of weather.
  21. That may well be true but it makes no sense that shipping is being taxed. Here's what I am seeing. I created a test item. Price .01 (one cent). All items are to be taxed at 7.0% I configured its category for a $1.50 shipping charge. But buying one of the items is calculated at item = .01 tax = 0.00 (that's an issue I've raised elsewhere - no items are being taxed, even though config is OK)) shipping = 1.60 (not the 1.50 for which the category is configured) total cost = 1.61 If the above explanation is true, that shipping is being taxed (something that is just never done in the USA), how is 7.0% of .01 = to 10 cents? Something else is going on and it's obviously not tax on shipping because in this case, there's no tax being charged to begin with, and even if there were, it should not be 1,000% (10 cent tax on a penny item).
  22. Question: When you say it does not work - have you gone through ALL the steps of checkout? Shipping is not added until a late screen. Is it possible you are stopping too soon?
  23. I have a CC 3.0.16 store where tax is not being applied. General Settings - tax set for "yes" Every Product - except one item out about 200 - tax = 7.000% But at checkout (PayPal), tax is not added. Ideas, please?
  24. uhhhmm . . . demurrer follows. If I said something to give that impression, I withdraw it. I have clients in 7 countries and have been doing internet stuff since January 1994. I can count the deadbeats on one hand and still have a finger left over for the internation symbol of you-know-what. In fact, since truth is a perfect defense against libel, I'll list them . . . 1) digink.com - pocketed a healthy 5-figures of commissions I earned. Funny thing is, they still list as clients, those I took with me - and still serve - when I left after discovering their mendacity. 2) ayc-hotel-grenadines.com (aka Palm Island Resorts, Grenadines and other countries). An outright thief who stole more than $8,000 in room reservations I paid for on behalf of clients. 3) captainyannis.com - acquired by the same company while owing me a year's hosting. 4) dolldoings.net - a stone deadbeat whose sob story I bought. Cut her off after two years of unpaid hosting and one excuse after another. (can't stand to hear a woman cry.) Finally, the issue in this thread is that my most recent deadbeat is Bank of America. They issued a check and then went all weird when it was properly presented to them. My own client promptly put me whole with a PayPal transfer within ten minutes of being notified. The founder of BoA, an Italian immigrant to the US, made his reputation for integrity when the San Fran earthquake and fire destroyed his little bank. He put all his cash and documents and mortgages into a wheelbarrow, trundled them off to a safe place and re-opened the next day across a wooden plank, making sure his depositors had funds in the crisis. From that, he became the most trusted banker in town - until the suits took over. If you hear a faint whirring sound that's probably him spinning in his grave.
  25. My client is in Germany. That makes your comment especially relevant. I'll share the info with him. Thanks for your input.
