I've managed to get SSL set up ... But it only works in IE ... If I add a product to cart in FF, and then go to view the cart.. It's empty ... If I do the same in IE, the product shows up..

Any clues?

-edit- .. what... the? ... Now it's working.

Well,

After much research and trying ever way imaginable, I have figured this out to work with shared ssl. My host is Host Gator. So here is my info to get the shared ssl working.

1st - I am running CC v. 3.0.12 so only 2 entries are required to set up ssl. I installed CC in this location: /public_html/cart/

*Root SECURE Public HTML Folder to store: /~username/cart/

e.g. /store/ (Include Trailing Slash)

*Absolute SECURE URL to store: https://securexx.websitewelcome.com/~username/cart

e.g. https://secure.domain.com/store (Excluding Trailing Slash)

*Enable SSL: Yes

Now I read alot of people who say they have got the shared ssl working, but now when they view cart it is empty, or their admin area is broken. Well I have figured that out too. Key point to remember. Once you have setup your ssl as noted above, you need to immediately go and delete your cookies and temporary internet files. SSL works on cookies. SO you have to delete your cookies and then close and reopen IE or firefox and then your site will funtion correctly. Do not try to log into your site, or admin area before emptying your cookies. This is key to it working right.

2nd - People should remember that your site does not operate in ssl mode at all times. Just during the required transaction parts. So when you log onto your store (ie. www.yourstore.com/cart) you will not be in ssl mode. When you view products you will not be in ssl mode. When you add to cart you will not be in ssl mode. But when you view cart and start the actual transaction, your site will transition flawlessly into the ssl mode.

Give these above steps a try and see if you can't get your shared ssl to work in CC. It works perfect on my cart. If you would like to see my CC in action and test it for your self, please visit here: http://www.gettingprettypersonal.com

after many days of configuring I can agree with hmpb74's findings. Using these settings makes shared SSL work for me. I can even login to Admin. :)

The key is the ~username variable before the cart location folder in the "*Root SECURE Public HTML Folder to store: "

I wanted to thank Kinetic for his help here, I had actually installed osCommerce and was looking to move to that when I said ef' it and decided to give CubeCart one more shot.

Got SSL working just fine tonight and the testing worked out great. Now to make certain this damn Paypal works and we're in buisness (do that tomorrow when I'm more awake).

I am moving FROM OSCommerce.

;) <----NOT a happy camper.

SSL on Bluehost.com was the BEST part with OSC ... nothing but apparently random problems beyond that point for me. I've been at this for a month or more and through 2 installs. I can't waste any more time on OSC ... I need to get this show on the road!

I've got my FTP client uploading a metric tonne of bits and bytes to the server right now so I don't think I'll be able to get to that config file to turn SSL off tonight ... ('tonight' in the figurative sense only ... it's roughly 2:30 am! and I've been at this keyboard for roughly 14 hours now!). But I want to thank whoever posted the tip for giving me a major boost.

Although Cube cart does not seem to be quite as versatile as OSC, so far everything has worked and I haven't had to diddle in the sometext.php files yet. As soon as I get things nominally working (SSL was the last step ... all else seems fine as frog hair), I'll tackle the appearance items. But first ... I've gotta get the money machine cranked up.

Had a really hair tearing time but finally found this setup worked perfectly:

Secure Server Setup (use editconfig.php)

$config['rootRel_SSL'] /~vomnz/cart/

$config['storeURL_SSL'] https://eagle.oksecure.com/~vomnz/cart

$config['rootDir_SSL'] /home/vomnz/public_html/cart

It seems that where the store is not in the root then it needs the folder name in every entry above.

:)

You are THE MAN!!!

Thanks for posting that. Workin on my Shared SSL now.
