Guest Denver Dave
Any interest in a weekly realtime chat? We could use Yahoo instant messenger with text, voice or video. ... or Skype which now has text, voice (for up to 5) and video (only one 2 one - I think). Maybe just pick a time if there is interest and we could PM the id's around. ... Or perhaps another service where we can just show up. Guest woodbtreasures
Dave that sound like kind of an interesting idea, but I'm not sure I could actually commit to being there. My board time is really hit or miss, whenever I have time after or before doing other things.
Guest Denver Dave
Hi woodbtreasures, thanks for the reply. I wasn't envisioning that everyone would attend each time going forward and perhaps weekly is too often. Just a thought that it might speed up certain items if we could discuss realtime. Not sure how many is a quarum and interesting to pick the time for people around the world, but for the right discussion I'll set my alarm clock (video might not be such a good option in this case). Start by having Yahoo IM and or Skype and let's try to snag us a couple of other participants.

Guest estelle
The forum is just so convenient. You can drop in whenever you feel like it, take as long as you want to respond, etc. People do chat via GoogleTalk, MSN etc, but only as needed. I think you have too much time on your hands, Dave :D
Guest Denver Dave
I think you have too much time on your hands, DavePerhaps just need more help than most or have less patience. I've tried for several years unsuccessfully to keep a paying shopping cart client. OsCommerce in the height of its upgrades was just too much for me. We're hanging in there with CC3 and am excited to have one client on - definitely doing my best to keep them. Certainly, realtime talks do not reduce the need or the benefits from a discussion forum where participants can post and read when they are available - love message boards. Still there sometimes is benefit from realtime discussions. Perhaps hard to get a critical number on a regular basis. In the "old" days we would have local usergroups for software applications - now the audience is global. Is there a day or time that is best. If we do evening in Europe, it would be early afternoon in the US.

Guest
Man, go IRC. Old school all the way. I hate all these memory hungry user clients that offer fancy stuff. I want plain old text chat. IRC for me. :)
Guest aikdo
I agree IRC all the way :D... possibly CC should have an IRC room somewhere that would be handy and a good meeting place...
Guest Denver Dave
Anyone know how to setup an IRC room?
Guest
I just did. I've been using the ICQnet IRC servers for over a year now with no problems. They're not over-crowded and don't suffer from the splits and attacks that the bigger networks are plagued with. Server: ircqnet.icq.com Port: 6667 Channel: #CubeCart <-- of course You can get IRC software from any number of places, the most popular of which is mIRC -- http://www.mirc.com/ C'mon in guys, the water's warm! :)
Guest Denver Dave
I've been looking into web conferencing software which might be ideal for a periodic interactive study group. If you are interested, please take a look at www.MyWorldChat.com . There is a free download to use their existing conference room. Conference software combines text chat, audio (works well with low bandwidth), a little optional video (only present for broadband) and directed website viewing for participants. If interested, please let me know, hard to test conference software out without multiple people. Maybe weekly is a little ambitious - how about trying a conference once and see what happens?
