I was wondering what an ecommerce site runs for? I have a client that wants a shopping cart for lingerie business. She plans on selling around 100 products. She wants me to design the layout as well. All the content and photographing her products? She wants to be able toupdate the site herself so I plan on using oscommerce or cubecart for a shopping cart.

Can someone give me a high and low estimate. By the way, she's an old friend. So she probably expects the "friend rate."

Thanks in advance!

Hi amflores

I'm an 'amateur with some site building experience' did some work for 'friends' too in my early days.Problem is you know where you start, but do not know where things will end. ("Oh , could you also do this, implement that, make an extra page for this etc..")

So ,for my latest projects I made a signed agreement about what the customers would get.

My rate is € 1000,00 (+TVA) for a website (starting from scratch) nomatter how many pages, images etc.

For re-design or extra's I have an hourly rate of € 25,00/H

I'm talking € (euro) that's about +/- 1,217.30 USD

and even if i'm an amateur I have to pay state taxes 21%

$20/hour is a good rate, maybe a bit cheaper for a "old friend" as you call it. But those sorta "old friends" have to have done something to get a friendly rate.

I recently did a site for a friend of my mom's that has just a few pages with a customized form and will now include a shopping cart. Total for all of it was $475. If someone goes to an actual "web design" business, they will pay around $1500. I charged that simply because he was a friend of my mom's (or at least a customer) and it helps me get more web page design under my belt.
