Guest brosville
had a natter last night with the chap I'm setting up this site for http://solarwind.org.uk/shop/ - he went to his bank, Natwest on Friday - his comments were unprintable afterwards. He's banked with them for years, and he just wanted to setup a new business account for this business, which is an offshoot of his building/roofing business. Instead of giving their client what he was asking for, he was subjected to a browbeating to try to get him to swap his mortgage (at vast expense) to them, he politely declined, and then mentioned the webshop - he then got a second browbeating about their ludicrously overpriced gateway - when he told them he wan't prepared to pay the ripoff fees, and was going with Nochex, they got visibly angry! This isn't the first time I've come across this appalling attitude - Lloyds/TSB had a similar policy - they'd imperiously summon you to their presence once in a while for an "account review" - my wife came home from one having "bought" a ludicrously expensive "loan" that they'd convinced her was a good idea - thanks to cooling off periods, it got cancelled immediately - and the bank account closed the next day! These institutions have a license to print money - imho they are now "far too big for their boots", and arrogantly treat us all as "mug punters" - I want to see a total change of attitude - in the meantime, I think he's off to the Co-op! ;)
Robsta
From my experience British banks are very reluctant to help online businesses. With extortionate setup fees and ongoing monthly fees it's no wonder PayPal and NoChex are the preferred options.
Guest brosville
what's so infuriating is that there is an obvious price-fixing cartel in operation here - which is hopelessly illegal! If just one of them woke up, they could corner the market! :D
