I did mention that shameless is getting shameless by the day and i hope it stays open :w00t:

Well it happened and no more arguments over "why is he/she allowed and i am not" or "but he/she does it why cant i?" :D

Next thing is the signatures :)

Shannon,

Unfortunately there is a residual problem with signatures dating back months, if not years, which will slowly be addressed by the Moderating Team.

Now that everybody has got used to the Board Rules introduced earlier this year, when CubeCart.org was launched, the time has come that the rules will be actively enforced. This is not going to hamper the discussions or extremely helpful and intuative posts/threads that we see here, but will actually improve the quality of posting by removing dead posts ("me to" eg) and just generally doing more active pruning of the boards.

Hope this helps.

William.

I agree with Andi.

If people are unaware that there are mods out there to give them the needed functionality the basic cart lacks then they probably leave CC and start looking elsewhere. How many times you see people here say "Oh, but I can't start my shop without XXXX" ? I see it quite a lot.

Yes, there is .org forum, but my stats says that at least 48% still comes from .com forum. So, either allow only Premium members (as in .org) to put links in signatures or find some other solutions, please.

Thank you Alon, i was expecting a barrage of abuse. Nice to know someone agrees with me :w00t:

Don't worry, that will come.

But not from me :)

No abuse from here either - What's the point of the forum if we can't sensibly discuss ideas and problems. I had a yelling at (In a nice way I'm sure :w00t: ) by Sir William and EvilHomer over my pushing to get the checkout process improved. I don't really care what responses I get, which friends I make, or lose, so long as at the end of the day, I have contributed in a positive way to improve CubeCart. The majority of the time, there doesn't appear to be objections to people asking for improvements or fixes. I don't get personal in my profession, and neither should responses within this forum. This is a professional product with both professional and amateur developers contributing to it. At the end of the day, we may have to work with each other, and if a strong professional feeling exists, more the better.

I understand only too well through years of moderating other forums, that members can flare up - This is where the moderators are supposed to clam things down. Forum trolls are also a pain, but again feeding them with negativity only makes them worse. Sometimes people are just after a little positive reassurance. It seems that in the Shameless Promotions section, a new breed to troll was evolving, fairly harmless, but not necessarily helping towards the greater good of the product that provided its home.

But I believe there is a time and place for everything.

CubeCart makes me money and is an important tool within my organisation, therefore I support it and want it to always be better so it will make me even more money! In the process, this will make CubeCart money from all the licenses I buy on behalf of my customers.

I understand how .org has been set up for third party MODs, but I would like to propose a change to this:

.com should be for support and also include non-commercial MODs that are currently on .ORG. There's been quite a few times where I have wondered "Should I post this simple MOD on .ORG, and let people have to hunt for it, or do I include it on .COM as an answer to a query"?

As .ORG clearly has been set up to promote third party modifications that people have to pay for, this is really where Shameless promotions should have appeared, but I think the very nature of the title suggests spam. it's one thing to (very kindly) offer an official forum helping third party developers promote their adaptions, but this should be left in an ordered manner, otherwise you get everyone promoting everything, and not necessarily in relevance to CubeCart - And that's not really what .ORG is about.

As a side note, it would be nice to have an official approval to the MODs (commercial and free) to clarify that they work properly with the system, and the compatibility is officially endorsed. This will help CubeCart customers know if the MOD they are buying is not going to wreck havoc.

Perhaps we need a little more debate about all of this to get a better viewpoint.

At the end of the day, it's Brooky who decides, it's his product and his forum, but we're the people contributing to making the forum a strong community, taking time to answer queries that we can help with, and without us, there would be a handful of posts answered every now and then.

I'd like to clarify the policy on policy on sending PMs to people offering products or services. Should we allow this behaviour, but on the condition that it must relate to a specific topic someone has made, otherwise they can report it as Spam, or do we consider making a PM to a support request on the forum as intrusive and unwanted?

not really, as no one posts signatures anymore to there services. just says to go to the org forum.

well...

Promotional URL's, advertisements and external affiliate links are not allowed in forum posts and profile signatures apart from the “Shameless Promotions” forum. Members must not link to or promote in anyway their services relating to CubeCart outside of the aforementioned forum. This includes and is not exclusive to, mods/hack/template stores, hosting and design services. The ONLY exclusion to this rule is that you may provide a link to your CubeCart powered web store IF it does NOT provide products or services related to CubeCart.

it seems that some people haven't realised this yet. I think the rules need to be revised here. Everyone has started saying "Look at the modifications I offer which can be found on ConeCart.org." isn't that against the rules?

And what about banners leading to sites promoting CubeCart - apparently, they're not allowed, but I see quite a few active members who still have them.

Well i dont know what to say to your reply Britvech as there is so much to cover. I personally believe it is wrong for us to PM people our mods unless they are specifically asked for; ie. Where can i get a new skin? The response should be 'go to .org and certainly not for us to PM that person "saying I can do it cheaper" etc but that is my opinion.

It might be worth while considering a Website Review thread as people often ask for us to look at their new sites and offer guidence but that is now really against the rules. The .org forum isnt nearly publicised enough at the moment as the majority of newbies have to be repeatedly pointed in the .org direction.

In my opinion it can only do cubecart good if we are allowed to publicise our services because people dont know how to make their site look different or how to add functionality therefore it can only be a good thing that people can see that there is more to CC than what comes out of the box.

I like gwizard's suggestion of only allowing advertising in signatures to Advanced Members and maybe Paid members.

At the moment it seems to me that Brooky is cutting his own throat by not letting experienced members advertise their services. I really dont know how these ideas can be implemented but i do know that something needs to be done because Brooky is alienating the very people that keep CC alive.

I agree with all of those points, although on the last one, I appears to me that recently there's been a waft of complaint that "CubeCart lacks certain features, so you gotta go and pay for them, and it's not fair". I believe the reason for a lot of this is because the MODs go way above what is expected of a generic universal E-commerce system, and by separating this out, then that clarify Cubecart's position better.

Personally, the first thing i thought of when i heard that no advertising was being allowed here was that Devellion are shaping up for either outside investment in CC or to sell CC as a whole.

Perhaps i'm being cynical here, but just a thought.

I can whole heartedly confirm that this is not the case, and I am sure Brooky & Devellion Ltd would not appreciate that type of comment whizzing around the rumour mill.

I would also like to, as I seem to do very often, thank everybody for their constructive comments - please understand that the moderating and admin team do listen, and actively discuss comments like those made in this thread.

Believe me when I say that the Shameless promotion forum has been discussed and continues to be discussed, and I am sure that like with everything to do with CubeCart something new will evolve or a 'middle-ground' will be found.

We are in the very early stages of what looks to be a very long ride.

I would like to say that my comments are totally unfounded and merely my musings.

If you feel its appropriate, please delete my post and all quotes of it.

That's what the Show-off thread is for, and why it's still there.

To be honest, the Shameless promotions category didn't really serve any purpose. Anyone advertising modifications was already doing so in the relevant sections of .ORG.

That is correct, and is one of the main reasons why the decision was made to remove the Shameless forum.

Regarding having signatures with 3rd party links/ads in them, forget it. It might be good to express your opinions just to blow off steam, but all this has been covered already, extensively, a few months back.

http://www.cubecart.com/site/forums/index....showtopic=13898

Remember this thread?

And as to the idea that there be an official endorsement of 3rd party mods for any reason . . . Just think about what you are asking :D

I opened this thread in sincerity; I am glad the section is gone, because cubecart.org makes it obsolete. Once CC.org started, I found it hard to imagine when or what to post there - and have been amazed at the blatant commercialism there lately. I figured if this was allowed, I would have to join the fray myself - but razing the cancer from the forum is the better answer, IMO.

Yes, many of you give of your time to support CC, but you are getting something from it, if only a feel-good, or you would not waste your time here. We are playing here on Devellion's dime, we should follow Devellion's guidelines.

@Brivtech:

Surely you can't mean the store promotion banners, such as the one in my signature? Both as a moderator at .org forum and as a co-developer of these banners, I would appreciate a link to the offending banners. I am not aware of a single such banner in .com that advertises a store selling third-party services, and would be the first to "blow the whistle" on one that did.

Please report any threads with banner signatures leading to third-party stores. The moderators here will put a stop to such if it occurs.

The only thing i can say is that all Admins and Moderators do talk about something before any action such as this is taken.

I have seen a few good points and a few purely based on personal profit :D

Maybe a half way point could be found and then we could all be happy :w00t:

Suggestion are always welcome */*

Endorsement only in terms of compatibility. Gives users better reassurance that what they're about to download from the CubeCart.ORG site actually works. A testing base - if you're after an example - they do this at phpBB.com.

It's fine for regular members to get to know the reliability of contributors, but for new users, there's no real way of telling at first glance.

@ansuk

No body wants to be the person to tell the mods about rule breaking and im certainly not going to tell you outright who is breaking the rules regarding their banners. Why? Because you are closely associated with one member in particular and this makes it extreemly uncomfortable to come to you to tell you

You do have a point but also this appears between moders/designers/users, its a small community i know */*

I never had or (hopefully) will have any problem to edit/delete a post/signature, i will not ask you to tell me who it is either, as i do understand your position :)

'waste' my time here because i am passionate about CC and want it to be number one in the shoping cart stakes but i reiterate that without people like you, me, grassmeyer, gwizard, aikdo to name but i few CC wouldn't be where it is

The only thing i didnt like was mentioning names :D

2 reasons:

1) is that everybody in this forum do give help in a minor or major way and as for those that make and sell mods/skins etc do get payed when they make a sale and these are from the forums mostly.

2) with the method of elimination we can figure out the name(s) that is missing from above.

Conclusion: The forum gains from everyone and everyone gains from the forum, and nobody is unreplaceable (i am so jealus of the youngsters with so much space in their mind and all the new ideas) :D

Personally i Thank everyone that helped me out in various problems i had. :w00t:

PS: I do not intend in any way my comments to be adressed as a personal insult to anyone, if i did without me realising it i apologise before hand.

if all 47,444 members are Designers and mod makers then i totally agree with you :D

I took a look at the advertisers in this forum (Deleted now post: Who makes what) and certainly did not see anything even close by the last 2 digits mentioned above :w00t:

In any case i just wanted to make a point and not get in to a discussion about this, since it is not the main issue. */*

ok time for ol homie to step in

The signature rule was created for one simple reason take my self for example

I have been in forum for 18 months now notching up nearly 3000 posts most of which are helping people in some way.

Under my belt i have probably 40 mods from V2 and V3 so are you suggesting it would be ok for me to have a 40 line signature advertising all my mods?

How high would my post count be if i could 5,000, 6,000 or even 10,000 as i would answer every post saying lol or :D or nice site just to get my signature shown in another post?

Cubecart is a universal cart made and even tho we all promote it and enhance it, it will survive and go on to fight another day. As Al stated in another discussion on this alot of excellent coders, moderators have been and gone alot of who you never knew.

Shout out to Booker, Saztar, Stjinj, Twisted and so many more i cant say them all they were all here pushing and promoting and helped turn V2 into V3 for you all.

So yes we help cubecart and maybe for that one or two customers make it better but as a rule cubecart is cubecart and can function without us. I help out because i love cubecart it has got me out of trouble so many times, and the fact that Al is a good friend. If i make a couple of $$'s to buy a new mod or 2 its a bonus but im not here for the money.

For those of you that are here for the money you have a lot to learn as I can assure you helping people will get you more money than promoting a mod or 2.

Cubecart is free to use and is amajor reason people use it, if it works and they start to make money they will come back an d buy a license. And if you helped them by answering a post they may remember you and come back for upgrades, mods redesigning etc. Not cos you replied with a i have it get it here, i can do that but it will cost ya or even pm me.

Its time to wise up and realise cubecart is a product and devellion a company we just help out now and again.

my 2 cents :(
