YET MORE BS with Cubecart! search engine problems

I have several pages on this site.

One of the more important ones is my guitar repair page.

I like to check search engines to see where I come up...

I haven't really checked since December when I started using cubecart...

I checked tonight only to find that my guitar repair page and others do not exist in Google.

not even when I type in my company name and repair etc..

Also, the META TAGS can only be entered on one page. WAY TOO LIMITED!!!

Is this what I can expect on most of my pages with this program?

I gotta tell you, ive been very unhappy with its limitations and shipping problems as well as many other things. I think its a great idea but its caused more frustration than doing a 50 page raw HTML site for me.

Every time I want to fix or change or add something its like a f****** nightmare because Cubes*** cant or doesn't allow it/support it!

as you can read, im about at my wits end!

The only thing stopping me from scrapping it altogether is having to start from nothing and rebuild~

Can someone shed some light on the search engine issue for me?

As I am confident that if this is a limitation, I will done trying to use CC...

Google just had an update in January and many sites lost ground due to a change in the way pages are reported. I have several sites that have been ranked and lost ground as a result. To be fair I think you should look at Live (MSN) and Yahoo as well as Google.

I am in the SEO business and I can assure you that meta tags do NOT hold the weight they once did. Keywords now are taken more from the body content than from the key word meta tag. Google now tries to get the meaning of a page (semantic analysis) by reading everything between the <body> tags and largely ignores the meta tags. If you have great key words and little content, you will not fare well. I think it's a mistake to blame Cube Cart for this. True that by itself it is not the most SEF cart on the market but with a little understanding of the nature of SEO and a few tweaks of your .htaccess file, it can do quite well.

I strongly suggest you use Google Analytics and see what is really happening. Right now all you can do is guess.

VWALL:

I don't know about anybody else , but I happened to check mine the other day on MSNLive and yahoo and it was all over the place. Cart included. Now I don't use google much and not sure exactly what the attraction is to it, but I think Roban does have a point here.

Granted CC has ALOT of fine tuning to due, esspecially in the area of shipping modules, ( my hair puller at the moment), and it is not as feature packed as some , hence it's simplicity, but I have found everyone here VERY helpful in my mods, and once I figure out where to look, and how to do it they were pretty simple.

Check you page content and other fine points. Call your host and ask them how you can improve your listings on search engines. There are also many websites out there that will run a check on your site for free and offer suggestions for improvement. One I use is SubmitExpress.

Hope this helps.

midwest :)

There is a free seo mod over at cubecart, org that allows you to enter your metatags for each page and change your page titles. It does make it easier to customize your page titles and meta tags.

Roban is right however, my pages suddenly all went supplemental..go figure. Additionally, half of the time, when i look up my pages in google, it is not the metatags like description they use, but it is the actuaal content off the page. Meta tags do not have the same weight they once did.

This search engine nightmare is not a cubecart nightmare..they jerk all sites around regardless of your platform.

Other that a couple people that made a small attempt to help in some way- this forum is useless!

I've never in my life been almost completely ignored!

I find it most disturbing as I'm the kind of person that goes out of my way to offer help or advice when people are in need.

I'm obviously not among peers here.

And Cube Cart- Nice try. but next time,

try to make a software that functions and works with the end-user in mind!

vwall, while I appreciate your particular problems, this does not reflect on the rest of the CubeCart community. Your comments are ill-informed, and poorly researched. We're trying to assist you and direct you to the solution regarding search engine rankings, but obviously you are not actually open to being helped.

I company specialises in internet marketing, and we come across the following :

- It can take many months to get listed in a search engine.

- Verifying your site through Google Webmaster Tools goes some way to helping

- Content of your web pages is important

- Sites linking to your web page are also very important, and give your site relevance within the search enging listings. Adding your site to the Live Stores section of this website actually has a good affect on the listing, but more promotional links will get you much higher.

- Meta tags are not a priority as far as Google are concerned.

No-one is forcing your hand at using CubeCart, and there are plenty of other packages, that will perform equally as well or worse. It is a well written eCommerce system core, with additional components available to optimise it for everyone's individual applications. It is not specifically a search engine positioning tool.

One thing I won't tolerate on these forums, no matter what the problems may be is foul language. It is certainly not necessary, and not welcome here. It serves no purpose in academic discussion, solving a problem, or improving the product.

This forum is run by volunteers, and in the vast majority of cases, a solution is swift. If you want specific help to a problem, purchase a license key, where you will receive proper technical support.

The specifications of CubeCart are clearly listed, and you have not had to pay for anything to test out the system for yourself. I'm sorry it falls short of your expectations, but that's down to you. Sadly in life, it appears that there are always people who want everything for nothing.

Nice to know you are appreciated Roban, midwest, valencia !!!!! :)

I must have missed all your helpfull advice to peoples problems in this forum!!!!! :P

Note to AL : This cart is obviously over priced (even thogh its free) ????????????????? :D;);)

Seriously,

There seems to be thousands of CC users and it is very rare that a thread like this crops up. I would try looking a little closer to home if you are having problems. Im sure you will have the same problems with other carts, as Roban says it is not CC thats at fault, this would have probably happened with other carts aswell.

vwall, to add in a further comment, perhaps you do not realise, that the show-off section, where you made your other comments is not a support section. It's simply an area to get a critique.

If you have a query regarding shipping, it would have been better to have addressed this in the shipping section, where it would have got the attention it deserved. Not everyone who helps with technical queries is interested in giving a critique on shops, and vice versa. People have their own areas of expertise, and generally tend as volunteers to look out for posts they can answer well.

How are people supposed to answer a query when you edit the link out anyway?

REALLY? WOW! I am overwhelmed with ALL THE HELP I HAVE RECEIVED!

Your grandeur is stunning! :)

Funny, I'm not NEW to the internet nor is my site- In fact its been there for years.

Never had any problem being ranked top 1-3 in all those year until I switched over to CC...

Apparently its not designed for the small fraction of percent of users as myself-

And I don't think its a SE tool- however that's a given on ANY website.

One thing I won't tolerate on these forums, no matter what the problems may be is foul language.

Hmm- however you want to try and spin freedom of speech... :P

Funny thing is- that foul language type was there for a couple days already and no one seemed to bother about it.... oh, of course until you arrive and attempt to make a case at me.

If you want specific help to a problem, purchase a license key, where you will receive proper technical support.

Now why would I buy a license to a software that isn't capable of doing what I need?

If CC was beneficial to all my needs, I would not have hesitated to buy it-

In fact, the lack of help I have received is a primary factor why I wont buy it.

Sadly in life, it appears that there are always people who want everything for nothing.

You are a complete ass for that staement You so obviously conjured it out of nothing-

No where... and I mean NO WHERE did I infer that I wanted something for nothing.

Step of your presumptuous pedestal
