Hi all,

I would love some feedback about our websites online store:

http://www.wallpapersdirect.co.uk/store/

If you spot any bugs or glitches in any browser then we are more than happy to look into those and get them fixed. Ideas for improving layout of the cart etc is more than welcomed also.

Many Thanks,

Will

Good work, Will, looking very nice :innocent:

What I like most about it: You have so many gret ways of getting to the products from entry page! Love it!

- Click slideshow, or sort by color or design, or choose from category menu, or choose a prod from latest prods, or use the quick links box at the bottom.

I really, really love that navigation scheme, well done.

I viewed a few pages, only saw two things I didn't really like. First, not enough margin on the left between border and category list, etc. I'm just a fan of space, and there doesn't seem to be quite enough there. Second, the product list on viewCat page. You have not styled that table at all. I find no fault with the default skin, but it just doesn't fit your customized site. IMO you would do well to customize the table for product list to further personalize the site.

All in all, a job well done :)

Hi mark,

Thank you for the feedback and apologies for taking so long to reply  I took your advice and edited the store for both of your ideas. There should now be more spacing down the left side of the menu, and on the viewCat pages I removed all of the default styling to make it suit our store a little better.

I have also integrated a lightbox into some of our product pages, for example on the below page click the link to load the wallpaper calculator in the lightbox (as opposed to the horrid javascript popup window we used to use)

http://www.wallpapersdirect.co.uk/store/co...prod_22343.html

Customers may now order samples of all of our wallpapers too. I removed the "Add To Cart" function and replaced it with checkboxes so a customer can decide if they would like to order a sample or entire rolls. If you select sample it will search the database for "Sample_prodID" and if available show a button to buy the sample. If a sample isn't available it will ask the customer to call us for more information.

The homepage of the website is now Valid XHTML 1.0 Strict. I had to remove one of the features (the drop down list of all wallpaper books from the top right corner) because that caused 160 xhtml errors :) Deleting that validated my page so didnt mind doing that.

If anyone can provide some feedback on how to further improve the store I would be very greatful. We currently receive over 100,000 page views a month but sales aren't as good as they should be for this amount of views.

Finally, some screenshots of other changes I have implemented either through mods or just general bashing of the code :yeahhh:

Customer Account Page:

Respectively each customer account page now has a "Back to account" link and the image suited to that page:

Registration page edited to make it one long page instead of cramped at the top:

The styling removed from the viewCat pages:

Many Thanks,

Will

I'm not going to comment on your design, as it looks fine apart from the logo, which I think you need to address and get yourself something designed so as to give yourself branding.

What interests me is that you are getting 100,000 views a month but not the sales conversions one would expect.

The first thing that strikes me is the domain name, which uses the word 'wallpapers'. There is another site, very similar in name, which sells exactly what you sell for very similar prices. In other words you have a direct competitor, which should be a concern. You really need to keep an eye on them and their website see what they are doing compared to you and what you could do better.

What worries me is that the word 'wallpapers' refers generally in computing terms to pictures that display in the background of your desktop. Because you are using google adwords to get pay-per-click I am concerned that a large portion of clicks you get from this are from people searching for computer wallpapers rather than wall coverings.

Every time someone clicks on your sponsored link in google you are paying for them to do that. The more people that come to your site looking for something else then the less cost effective your ppc marketing is, because as soon as they realise the site is not relevant then they will leave.

If you are using a specialist marketing company I would suggest talking to them about how you can focus your adwords to bring in targeted traffic that will increase your conversion rate. If not, then I would recommend finding a marketing company to speak to as it is a specialist area and you will reap the benefits of having specialists to help grow your business. There is little point in spending hundreds of pounds every month to get people to come to your site who do not want to be there.

As a result you may get less traffic, but it should be more relevant traffic and hopefully sales would increase. I don't know what traditional marketing and advertising you are doing but maybe you need to look into that area to increase awareness of your site. And that all goes back to developing branding and a recognisable logo.

Basically there's far too much to go into here, but if you do not have a marketing or advertising agency involved then you seriously should consider it if you serious about improving sales. My suspicion is that wallpaper is one of those products that people need to physically see and touch, perhaps have samples of before they make a purchase which makes selling them on the internet not so easy. Price point may well be your biggest marketing asset.

Hope this has been helpful.
