Currently he is stuck in the garage with a broken down car and will be in later.

for those of you that wanna know, apparently my HT leads are fried, and as a result, so are my sparks, so £140 quid in parts and labour for VW. bastards.

if i had the time, i'd do it myself for about a fifth of the cost

having to spend £70 on a hire car doesn't help things either, and neither does the £30 diagnostic test it took to work out what was wrong :'(

What is it with garages?? My car was just hit with a bill for £330 - then he phones and says bring it in tuesday it may be something else which will cost a fiver.... :o

I best work this bank holiday just in case it reverts back to the 330 :errm:

I just spent over £400 to redo the brakes on my GMC - myself!

Having taken the afternoon off, I realised that the discs that were supplied were wrong, so I just had to drive all the way across London to the suppliers to get the correct ones, which they fortunately had in stock, and were about £100 more expensive in total.

Journey of 37 miles took about 1 3/4 hours - They closed at 6, I got there quarter past - They waited, and saved me from losing the weekend that I set aside for this. Close call! Now I think I have to replace the brakes on the Rover after all that rushing around! :errm::lol::o:D

Just realised this afternoon that the starter motor on the GMC may also be defective now - I'll give it a thwack and see if that does the job - Could just be sticking with it being off the road for the past few months.

This afternoon's attempt was a resurrection of last weekend when Iground to a halt because I couldn't get a 9mm allen key anywhere! After trying about 8 different possible shops on the way home, including a specialist tools supplier, it turned out that my local car parts shop actually had one.
