Do digital downloads need to be listed as a separate product

Hi,

My site sells Mathematics software to schools, which is available on CDs.  I've recently provided the option for some of the CDs as digital downloads.

Do I have to list the digital download as a separate product (in which case it looks like every product is listed twice, unless I put the digital downlaods in a separate section), or can I create options on the main product page for customers to choose digital or tangible?

Many thanks if anyone can help.  (I'm using the most recent version of cubecart).

As of CubeCart 5.1.5, the easiest way is to have a digital section.

The code I have seen for "Stock Levels for Product's Options" in CC520b1 allows for maintaining separate stock levels for each of the option combinations, but maintaining stock levels for a digital product would be a rare situation.

If the pricing model of the software allows for complimentary or with-cost media, then as an option (free or $5 additional perhaps) you can offer the media as an option -- setting up your entire product line as digital. But then, make some products mandatory to select the media option and having just a short PDF file as the digital component for those items.

I have not seen a straightforward solution to the setup as you have described.

You can remove the duplication through providing the download link on the product page. Just have an average size button.
