MoonShadows
I uploaded my own favicon.ico to my public_html a while back, but it is still not displaying. All my other sites are displaying my favicon, but not my CubeCart site. Any suggestions? Thanks. Jim
bsmither
Try asking for the ico directly. Your browser should then dump the old ico from its image cache and use the one just retrieved. www.example.com/store/favicon.ico
MoonShadows
Thanks Brian. That worked for Chrome and Firefox, but as usual, IE(11) is being stubborn and is still showing the old favicon.
bsmither
As usual. I have no advice for Internet Explorer.
Dirty Butter
You could manually delete your computer's temp files for IE and see if that does it.
MoonShadows
Thanks, DB. Tried that, but still the Cubecart favicon is showing.
bsmither
One more try: www.example.com/store/favicon.ico Ignore whatever gets displayed. CTRL-F5 (forces the browser to refetch/refresh everything). Hopefully, the new image shows. If that still does not work, then edit the skin template main.php. Find:<link rel="shortcut icon" href="{$STORE_URL}/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" /> Make it look like:<link rel="shortcut icon" href="{$STORE_URL}/favicon.ico?v=2" />
MoonShadows
Thanks Brian, but I found another way...probably while you were writing...that fixed it. I'll type it here in case someone else has the same problem. With IE11 open, click Tools >> Internet Options >>Advanced >> Reset >>Put a check in "Delete Personal Settings" >> Click Reset >> Restart Computer. >> Open IE11 Voila! The favicon for my Cubecart site and Admin were updated.
bsmither
That brings up the question: what do you do when your customer has the same issue? (If they would even notice. If their computer still shows your old icon from a previous visit. If anyone could really care.)
Toucan Web Design
Always been one of the big problems with caching anything, it's a rare customer who knows about clearing caches unfortunately I know a few colleagues who are fans of setting up htaccess rules that auto set the caching at 1 seconds for a variety of things like the images and ico files, but that always seems a bit sledgehammery for my liking
