having spent many years happily using Cubecart V3 ive now had to look at a new version,  i installed V6 into a fresh directory, ive added a couple of catogories and a few products but no matter what i do the storefront wont change from default install state,  even though ive deleted the test catogory its still showing on frontend, nothing of mine will show up

no i worked as soon as i installed it, i really wish V3 still worked its much better than the new versions

V3 is still available and can be made to run with a few code edits. However why you believe that 8 year old code is better is a little strange when it has far, far less functionality and looks extremely old fashioned.

There are a few outstanding bugs in V6 but a lot of testing has been done by different people and it shouldnt be far from an initial 6.0.0 release

hello Al, firstly id like to say ver3 was exactly what i wanted when i started selling online, it did exactly what it said on the tin and even download products was so easy even me with zero php experience got it working in 15 mnutes, congratulations on a great product.

now the bad news,  when ver3 stopped working due to discontinuing php 5.2 i looked at using cubecart 5, that was just ridiculas,  i wasted over a day just trying to get that stupid ion script working, and failed, so ive looked at most of the other free carts available and it seems that they all have one that in common and that is to fill the script with as many useless features as possible and spread it out over as many pages as you can, why use just one page for products when you can use 8 or even 10,  same for all the other aspects,   some scripts even spread between catogories,  thats where ver3 was a winner,  one page for products, one for catogories, no crap just the stuff needed to get the job done, and all explained in plain english

ive spent probably 2 days now on cubecart 6 and have to say im not that impressed, its all just so long winded, more pages and mouse clicks than it needs,   dont get me wrong its fantastic your giving it away for free now but you have to remember  most of us using these sripts are not webmasters, nor do we want to be,  this script is supposed to be a tool, with the sole purpose of getting money out of customers pockets and into mine, that means i want to spend as little time using it as possible

to sum up 2 days later using ver 6, and im still nowhere near the point i was after just 15 minutes using ver 3,   no money has left my customers pockets and i now have an headache

Hi Mark, mobile phones that only took calls and SMS were all that were needed once too. I'm sorry if thats all you need still but for the majority of our users they need and want a smartphone now. When CubeCart v3 was released 12 years ago in 2003 this (photo below) was the best selling mobile phone in the world. The world has changed significantly and we doing our best to keep up. I'm sure once you get more familiar with v6 you'll get on just fine with it. CubeCart v6 does everything v3 did and more (only if you want it too). If not there are plenty of other solutions you can take a look at. Thanks for taking the time to feedback to us.

i remember that phone well, had one for years, now like everyone ive got a smartphone and now i wonder how we lived without them lol,  but as i was trying to point out, maybe not quiite as successfully as i thought,     when it comes to writing php  you may be brilliant, i can see theres probably thousands of hours of code possibly even just in ver 3, and yes when it comes to features you have done well in the keeping up stakes, its fair to say that ver 6 is definatly a feature rich script,  but how many stores do you actually operate yourself, on a daily basis, as a real user.

thats what i was trying to explain, me and possibly thousands of others who download ver 6 but may never even come on these forums, we do not enjoy spending an evening working in php, were just regular people with busy lives and need a script that suits that,    im not saying that the new features are no good, its all in the layout,   for example take the products page,  all the important stuff like name, brand, id, description, image, meta stuff should be on one page  just like it was in ver 3, all the other stuff that most people never use like all those codes could be on page 2,

now that you have added a lot more features one page might be too long, thats why i suggest splitting it into 2,  one page for the important stuff, just like in ver 3 and page 2 for the stuff most of us wont ever use,  i dont think the page length is important really,  its more about keeping things together with as few mouse clicks as possible,

i dont think you realise what a good product ver3 was from a front end user experience, as i said i know knothing about writing php, or what makes scripts work, but its good to know that your doing all that important stuff in the background that i never see and probably dont even know is there

the front end user interface could actually be made to look any way you wanted really couldnt it ?

im all for keeping it simple, one page for products, one for catorgories etc,  maybe 2 tabs like you said, basic tab with the normal stuff we all need and advanced tab for all the other stuff

Crude is the word I would use and the user experience is truly terrible and not even possible on smartphones which is a significant percent of potential clients lost.

Yes it's 100% customisable

im sorry when i said it was a good user front end i was refering to the admin side,  my only critisism of ver3 admin pages is i always thought the space for typing the item description could have been a bit bigger

i always liked the killer theme, very nice

theres a couple of features id like to see, which would be really handy,

basic sales reports,  i want to see how many of each product i sell each month, especially if i can have it as a .csv

customer tracking,  see which pages they look at and where they came from

"the caching problem is now getting worse"

On the Homepage, there is the Featured Product panel. On every page request, this item is randomly chosen - assuming you have more than one product in the database.

Do you see this happening?

Or do you see the same product on every Homepage request?

the featured product on the right changes yes but non of the latest products on main page change and it will not go to any catogories, you can click the tabs but it just keeps displaying the same latest products page

Unless you have added new products, then the "Latest Products" shown are not going to change because they ARE the latest products
