Sorry for jumping in, but "better"?

From one of the subject areas I am following, I am of the school of thought that you want to be hosted by a company whose data-center is in a country where those country's laws are best suited to your purposes for your web site.

For example, if your site's purpose collects vast and wide-ranging personal data, then do not have your site on a server located in a data-center in the UK/EU. Their personal data and privacy laws are very strict.

But, if all else being equal (customer support hours, etc), where latency is the only remaining variable, you want your site hosted in a data-center that is as close as possible to your next customer.

I will say that where the hosting company is incorporated makes no matter to where the data-center is located.

I think that's solid advice. CubeCart Limited is registered under the UK Data Protection Act which is why our websites are hosted in the UK. We can't expect to be able to meet these requirements if we were hosted by a company that didn't share the same regulations. Normally territory bounds this.

Does anybody know the best hosting company in Australia for CubeCart?

"Best" is a complex question and depends on what you are looking for. Customer service should be a high priority, are they CubeCart specialists and do they offer free CubeCart support as part of the hosting.  Many companies make broad claims of unlimited this and that (these are ALWAYS suspect in my mind as it is physically impossible, always means overselling and accounts are often restricted in other hidden ways - a bad and discredited marketing exercise), 99.9% uptime (which actually isnt that great and often is impossible to claim against) and high security which should be a big concern but is rarely true or backed up.

We host a very large number of CubeCart customers from across the world and have a large number obviously from the UK and other European countries but a significant number from USA, Australia and New Zealand and all benefit from specialist CubeCart configuration, CubeCart support and many other benefits

Latency is a possible small issue but absolutely no point having your site on a nearby server if that server is overloaded, has poor network connectivity (many still using 100 MB network connections!!) or if the site hasn't been optimized in terms of caching (Memcached or similar, opcode caching and also correctly configured browser caching and server based compression). Latency pales into insignificance besides all of these things !

Having strict data and privacy laws don't just apply to the UK (these are EU directives) and how can these ever be viewed as a bad thing !!  Hosting in the USA or Canada opens yourself up to many worse data privacy issues !

Hey Havenswift, i respect you as a long time Hosting provider and our intention is not to take away your Business.

But i have to say that some of your statements are not true.

When we say "Unlimited" we mean it. You have to understand that US is the center universe of the internet, and due to it's infrastructure and biggest data centers in the world we are able to make those statements. If a customer signs up for our services, and we are not able to stand up to our promise we will refund 100% of the initial cost.

I personally hosted websites with many of the top hosting providers, nearly none of them were able to stand up against their marketing scams (100% uptime, security, etc). But because of this experience, we at Beetemple have started this mission to offer legit hosting services with a one to one connection to the customer.

Our Maximum Security is backed up by dedicated SPAM filters that are part of the mail server and identify junk during the SMTP handshake phase.

How many hosting companies also offer realtime antivirus scanning, DDoS identification/prevention, integrated CDN and the list goes on.

I would also like to say the US offer's the most affordable web hosting packages, if the locations of the data center's is the primary concern then i would say you stick to the country you reside in.

Dont take this the wrong way but I am really not at all concerned that you will be taking business away from us - we are offering completely different services on a completely different level and I wish you luck in your new venture.

I am sorry to disappoint you and the many evangelacists in your country, but the US is not the centre of the universe - the rest of the world, including the UK and Europe came out of the dark ages a little while ago !!  Referring to your own Terms and Conditions - "Unlimited" only if it is a small personal or business website and then only if it uses no more than 10% of an unspecified set of resources which you say will almost certainly happen if you host multiple websites which goes against your statement of being able to host unlimited websites !

>> But because of this experience, we at Beetemple have started this mission to offer legit hosting services with a one to one connection to the customer.

That is a good aim and the reason that I started this business 8 years ago - the first thing you need to work on when running this type of business is to be truthful and open though.  You are a new startup business (your domain only registered 2 months ago), that is great and dont be afraid of that - we all start somewhere, a reseller account on somebody else's server (which I am guessing is what you have got), then the big jump up to a single server you manage completely yourself and then building it up to as many servers as you need.  Be truthful about where you are though because it is so easy for anyone with the knowledge to find out !

Sorry but this is basic security for hosting servers

>>if the locations of the data center's is the primary concern then i would say you stick to the country you reside in.

Again, I would disagree with this for the most part.  Latency is a very small part in the overall speed perception of a website.  Service levels and expertise in the software that you are running is much more important

Anyway, again, I wish you the best of luck in your new business

Our TOS also states, that an unlimited account does not set an arbitary limit on the amount of resources and "unlimited" account can use. As also mentioned on our website our plans are scalable for increased demand, and we are happy do discuss thus needs with our customers individually.

I am not denying the fact that the company itself if fairly new, we officially launched a few days ago.

I've dealt with hosting resellers before, and know that they are a cheap solution for making quick cash. You may assume so, but our servers are not reseller based. It's true though that we lease servers in one of the biggest data centers in the United States. And as demand inceases our infastructure will expand.

You also state that these security features are basic for any hosting provider, why do most of the biggest shared hosting providers do not offer these services for $5-20 plans?
