Various Strange Things Happening

I have had Cube Cart installed and running for a little over a month now and all was working fine until this week.

Problem #1) 
Pages loading really slow. Response is slow once you click "add to basket". Response is slow once you click "checkout"

Problem #2)
Sometimes a customer will get all the way through to checkout- then they will get an error message saying that what they ordered is no longer available and was removed from the basket when in fact there is plenty of that item available.
 

Again, this a new problem just in the last couple days. All other pages on the same site are loading and working fine.

If I use this URL:

I get this response very quickly, less than 1/2 second:

HTTP/1.1 302 Moved Temporarily
Location: http://www.swankcakedesign.com/fabulace/fabulace/fabulace-mats/fabulace-mat-verona.html

But using the SEO-type URL took eight seconds before the first byte is received.

However, on a second test, it took more time for the bounce (just over half-second) and less time for the first byte (three seconds), and a third test took five seconds for the 302 bounce and 40 seconds for first byte.

The 302 bounce happens early in CubeCart's wake up cycle, but it involves enough of decision-making and database accessing, that I can probably rule out most of CubeCart's code.

What's left is mainly related to populating and compiling the skin templates.

In that regard, there may be some sort of issue with folder permissions on the /cache/ folder (or other cache mechanism if not file-based).

Please contact your hosting provider and ask if they can run a trace on where any bottlenecks may be.
