Kevin Wilkinson
Hi I need to add a custom field "Customer Order Reference" to the checkout page, so that on submitting an order the Customer has the option to provide their own order reference. I haven't been able to find a solution to this on the forums, I expect it will require addition of a field to the SQL table and some hacks in the CC core before incorporating it into the templates. if I do this, will the hack be liable to be overwritten by future updates? Also can you confirm the steps required to achieve this, or if there is a plugin that will do it for me? Thanks.
Dirty Butter
A plugin would survive upgrade, but edits would have to be added each time. The database changes would survive. This might give you some ideas.
keat
Any database edits will more than likely retain with future updates, however, any changes to core files will be lost. A lot of our customers use the comments field for this purpose. You could always re-word the comments field to say Comments/Your Ref Number. There would be no requirements for any additional fileds, mods or tweaks. edit: Based on my own advice, I've just done exactly this.
