Adding custom field to Checkout page

Recommended Posts

Hi

I need to add a custom field "Customer Order Reference" to the checkout page, so that on submitting an order the Customer has the option to provide their own order reference.

I haven't been able to find a solution to this on the forums, I expect it will require addition of a field to the SQL table and some hacks in the CC core before incorporating it into the templates.

if I do this, will the hack be liable to be overwritten by future updates?

Also can you confirm the steps required to achieve this, or if there is a plugin that will do it for me?

Thanks.

Any database edits will more than likely retain with future updates, however, any changes to core files will be lost.

A lot of our customers use the comments field for this purpose.

You could always re-word the comments field to say Comments/Your Ref Number.

There would be no requirements for any additional fileds, mods or tweaks.

edit:

Based on my own advice, I've just done exactly this.

" Delivery Notes, Additional Comments or Your Order Reference Number "
