  1. I have duplicate pages for example if a category has been renamed, both the old name and new names are being indexed.

     

    Also it seems that when multiple currencies are activated, all these each currency is indexed as a duplicate

    Cubecart support say "The two urls (old and new) both include the proper rel="canonical" reference in the meta tags so that all search engines will properly update their listings and NOT penalize you for duplicate content."

    My question is - (OKay this is fair enough for duplicate content - but what about PR and backlinks???)

    I then asked cubecart support the following question "Why are all the new urls shown as not being indexed by Google instead of showing the PR of the old url" . Surely the canonical reference is instant. It certainly is when you use it for www. and non-www.

    Their reply is "Google doesn't update instantly. Unless you are a huge system like twitter. With time your links will all update correctly."

    I need to know whether this is true or not. I thought a canonical reference was instant and had nothing to do with indexing from Google. Can anyone please advise on this matter as I need to know that my old seo friendly urls will be preserved along with their PR and backlinks.

     

    Surely everyone who upgrades cubecart and subsequently has their urls changed would like to know the answer! Why does no-one seem to be concerned about this.

  3. Coupons work properly as a general coupon. So, in the sense that somebody can buy 5 newspapers, get 5 Coke coupons and then go to a supermarket and buy 5 cases of Coke, once per day; it works perfectly. Where it does NOT work is there is no "limit per user." 

     

    Yes I agree, the coupon system works exactly how you would want it to if you had a physical store and people had paper coupons that they handed over the counter. 

     

    The analogy for an online store is that when the coupon is used, it should be virtually "handed over", ie that's is the end of its use.

  5. A "Fresh Install" is where CubeCart creates a brand new empty database (more accurately expressed as a new set of tables). An "Upgrade" is where CubeCart takes the CC3/4 database schema and converts that schema and data to CC5's requirements.

     

    To keep CC5 from "upgrading" the existing CC4 set of tables, during CC5's installation, specify a unique table prefix, such as 'cc5_'.

     

    Aha. But is it too late if I already did a "dirty" install? Can I make it clean?

    I am assuming this is a fresh install and not an upgrade from an earlier version of CC.  Upgrades do work (I have done 2 from CC4), but the chances of something getting broken are certainly there, depending upon your mods and configuration in the CC4 version.

     

     

    No this is an upgrade from version 4. Is it possible to do a fresh install, without losing the database of previous orders and customers?

    I believe the native coupon system in CC5 does work, aside from the lack of certain features.  You may want to check your installation, it sounds like you might have a corrupt file or some file permission / other issue that is preventing the coupon system from working correctly. 

     

    Many times stalls in the long ftp upload can mess up a file or two.  I have had it happen over the years a few times.  Most of the time, re-uploading in small batches works to clear it up. 

     

    I have also had mysterious permissions errors on files that were ftp'd to my server.  I have had permissions incorrectly set at 0, which doesn't allow the file to be accessed at all and will cause problems with the functionality that particular file provides.

     

     

    Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look into that. Do you know which specific files might be responsible?

  8. The absence of a particular limiting factor does not invalidate the entire paradigm.

     

    Should a coupon be created that can be used once and only once, the customer who has that coupon can apply it to the subtotal of only one order (according to other limitations that may apply).

     

    Your comments seem to imply that the coupon system, as applied specifically to this discussion's topic, does not work. True -- as it applies specifically to this discussion's topic.

     

    But that's like saying an automobile doesn't work if it didn't come with a convertible roof. You may need such a roof, but not having one doesn't mean the car doesn't work.

     

    Yes, I totally agree that if you wanted a coupon that can only be used once by one person, it makes some sense. But i would have thought that is much less likely than wanting a convertible.

     

    Either way, I was caught out because it is not made clear that is what it is for. OTOH in the case of a car with a convertible roof, it is very obvious what it does.

     

    Plus the problem that even if you have a coupon with one use, it can still be used more than once, ie after use it still shows as not being used 0/1 times (which I presume must be another bug so hopefully that will be sorted)

    But it seems that if a customer has a coupon, they can use it many times (that is what this thread is about) which means the coupon system is not working.

     

    If I give someone a £5 coupon, I want them to get £5 off their order, not £25 off if they order five items. Otherwise it's like giving somebody a blank cheque.

     

    I understand that the other issue you mentioned * , where some random amount is deducted must be a bug, so I hope that gets sorted out.

I have had a few communications with Daren at Semper Fi Web Services about adding this feature to his existing CC5 coupon enhancements plugin.  He seems very interested in doing it and I am hoping he will want to follow through and produce this upgrade.  I think the more demand he feels there is, the more motivated he will be to do it, so if you or your clients would buy it, let him know.

    Not quite sure what you mean by "feature" unless the feature is purely that the coupon system works.

     

    I just had another (very bad) problem with coupons, in which even with just one use of the coupon a seemingly random amount was deducted from the total.

  12. Is this a clean install or an upgrade - if so from what? Please add to your signature. Sometimes it helps to know your site url and what mods you've added, if any - you can add that to your sig, too.

  13. A customer was issued with a discount coupon value £5

     

    he then purchased a £12.95 item, and instead of being charged £7.95 (plus shipping), a further £10 was mysteriously taken off the order. 

     

     

    See attached, £7.95 + £3.00 = £0.95

     

     

    Also, the coupon (which I had only allowed 1 use) after being used once, still shows as not being used.

    Thanks, that looks good, but what I need is something for people who are not already customers. Unless I'm misunderstanding, that works with existing customers only.

     

    I'm thinking something like Youtube. All public videos are searchable, but you can have a private video that is not searchable, however people with the URL can view it.

  15. I see that the order went from Processing status (the second time) to Complete status instantaneously. This typically happens when selling digital downloads as there is no need for the admin's management. Is the inventory on the second occurrence a digital product?

     

    (Just curious - not that this info would help track down the cause.)

  16. It's not a stock function. Setting a product's status to 'Disabled' or its category to 'Hidden/Disabled' will present a page with nothing where the product details should be.

     

    Yes, I thought that setting category to disabled, and putting the product in that category would work, but it doesn't, it just shows blank.

     

    That's a pity, I think this would be a very useful function.

  17. Please examine CubeCart's Transaction Logs. You may see two line items with the same order number.

     

    Also, when viewing the details of that order number, you say you see only the item from the second occurrence in the Inventory tab. Not the items from both occurrences?

     

    On that order's History tab, does the order go from Pending to Processing then back to Pending and then again to Processing?

     

    The order number suggests it was created at 13:41, and at 13:44 the transaction completed. Then, at 13:58 (according to the CP), perhaps the cart was updated, and then having another transaction completing at 14.01.

     

    I will surmise that perhaps the customer pressed the browser's "Back" button.

     

     

    In transaction logs. Well, only one order shows (£43.90) but when you click on it then it shows both, one for £1.95 and the other for £43.90

  18. This problem is really bad. I created a coupon with 20 uses, thinking that meant 20 different customers could use it.

     

    But no.

     

    A customer got the £5 coupon, then ordered 4 items, and got £5 off each item, a couple of which only cost £5.50 so instead of giving a reasonable discount, I made a big loss on the transaction. Luckily for me the customer noticed and offered to reimburse me, but I doubt that would always happen!

  19. In CubeCart 5.2.1, the database has a Primary Key in the Order Summary table for the cart_order_id column. The database will not allow another record to be inserted into this table that uses the same cart_order_id value. Therefore, you won't find this customer's second order in Cubecart's Orders list because it was never saved.

     

    However, if you look at the details of the order, there should be listed all the products from both orders, and should not show only the second order's contents as you say, as CubeCart does save the inventory sold in each order in a different table. (The Inventory tab will have the totals from only the first order summary.)

     

    So, we just need to know the exact steps your customer took from paying for the first item to making the second purchase.

     

    I very much doubt whether people remember the exact steps they took, but I suppose I can try asking. As fgar as the customer is concerned nothing went wrong because luckily I noticed the two notifications and only one order in the CP (with only the second order items on it.

     

    What I don't understand is how there can be two orders with the same number in the first place. Surely this is a bug?

  20. It's 5.2, I didn't realise there was an update.

     

    The customer ordered one product and paid successfully, then 15 minutes later ordered another, and paid successfully. Worldpay shows both payments at exact same times as the notifications.

     

    Only the second order shows up in the CP, but both orders generate notifications, so it is as if the second order overwrites the first one in the CP. As mentioned both notifications have the same order number.

     

    Both payments show successful in Worldpay, where they show as two separate transactions with seperate WP transaction numbers but the same Cart ID on each.

     

    Notifications set to be sent on processing

     

    To summarise:

     

    • Payment of £43.90 successful - time on notification and WP = 13.44 - CC order# 130507-134106-7172 WP transaction 2654371741
    • Payment of £1.95 successful  -time on notification and WP = 14.01 - CC order# 130507-134106-7172 WP transaction 2654376044
    • Order in CP shows only one order - time =13:58 CC order# 130507-134106-7172

     

    When this happened before I didn't notice as I use the CP rather than email notifications, it wasn't until the irate customer told me only one order arrived that I found out it had happened, which of course means I can't really rely on the Cubecart CP for orders.

  21. This has happened a couple of times. A customer places two orders, I get an email notification for each (see attached)  but they have the same order number and only one shows up in the Admin control panel.

     

    Can anyone help please?
