  1. The one above that i have highlighted in red controls the colour of that text Agreed. That is where you control the color and font, as the lheading says, WITHIN the searchbox. But the poster's question and mine is where is the style.css that controls the text OUTSIDE the serach box such as "Search for' and Welcome, etc. Those are not controled by that item in style.css and there is nothing obvious that does. Thanks for your help and if you know that answer it will be greatly appreciated. It constantly vexes me with every shop I edit. You'd think I would write it down - or at least annotate the file. But noooo-ooo. That would be too common-sensical.
  2. I think there are two parts to your question. 1) where and how in CC do you manage the value of any specific currency? That can be done manually in the CC/ACP (admin control panel). Click on Currencies. In the right hand column, under Action, click on "enable" to make any currency active in the user's display and cart. To edit the value of any currency, again beneath Action, click on "edit." Scroll to the bottom of the list and you can edit that currency's values. 2) How do you make sure that the exchange rate is valid? First of all, don't sweat the small stuff. Unless you are dealing in transactions that run to the high double figures or any three-digit figures, the normal rate fluctuations are not important and may cause a difference in a large order of a few cents. Few currency exchange rates change more than a few hundreds of a per cent even over a week. Only major international crises cause serious short term changes in major currencies. You can confirm the exchange rates for any of hundreds of currencies against almost any other at www.xe.com. So the practical thing to do is, set your currencies to the rates as of today and then monitor them once a month. Once in a while there will be rate changes that warrant your resetting hte CC/ACP. Hope that helps.
  3. But exactly which code must be eidited? There is nothing in skins/legend/stylesheets/style.css labled with any indication that it controls color and fonts for the text in the banner such as Search, Welcome, Guest, Register, etc. I suspect it's in the style.css, but if it's there, it sure isn't explicit. TIA
  4. and upgrade to the current version (3.0.10).
  5. Look above you on the page you are now reading. See the link that says "search?" Clcik on it and search for "installation." Also go read the excellent message here http://www.cubecart.com/site/forums/index....showtopic=12352 contains links to all the most common step-by-step isntructions for various CC issues. Buddy, if I can do these things ANYone can. Take a look at the pix next to my post. That was taken on a *good* day after my teeth had been inserted and my shoe laces tied for me. The old women here in the asylum think I'm the cat's pajamas. If you still need help, go to www.cubecart.org and chose one of the excellent professionals who do this stuff for ridiculously low prices. Convict (really should get a less intimidating name) is a talented programmer. Sir Willliam, also on that other forum, is very good. Vrakas is clever. Ansuk knows her stuff. Every one of the pros over on the CC.ORG site have been peer-tested to high standards and before they are allowed to offer their services for sale. Hope that helps
  6. *there's* the problem. I say that with respect and without personal criticism because I know that another language is barrier to clear understanding. Here's the facts: Cube Cart is free of charge. If you wish to *register* your store, there is a one-time fee for that option - but it is an true option. Paying a regsitration fee does not get you a better CubeCart or more features. Why would people pay to register free software? Because they want to support continued development by the programmer. Also, registration gives them access to the Ticket system for tech support beyiond the free support they get in these forums. Finally, by paying and registereing, the Cube Cart footer is removed and you may show yourself as the designer of a customized cart. That last item is helpful to those of us who build online stores for multiple clients and want the publicity. I think that the registration fee, at less than 2 US cents per day, is money well spent. I have registered 4 CC installations so far and will not install CubeCart for any client who doesn't agree to pay for. That is, of course, my own business policy. But everyone else is free to use CC 3.10 without charge. There is discussion that a future version, maybe even the very next one, may have a price, but nothing there is not yet an offciail and final announcement on those issues. As for PayPal, I have explained that there are two ways of using their system with virtually ANY shopping cart. CubeCart comes ready to use with either one, the free PayPal or the more powerful and more user-friendly paid PayPal. So install and use the curent CC to build your business. Hope that helps.
  7. As Ansuk points out, there are 2 PayPal methods. Both are supported in CubeCart. Study the PayPal web site for the official rules, but here's a general understaning as I know them. One is free. When a buyer is ready to pay for the contents of the shopping cart, the PayPal interface asks if he has a PP account. If he does, he can proceed to pay for his purchase from that account. If not, PP invites him to open one. The source of the funds can a checking account, savings or credit card. The buyer does not pay any transaction fees. Those are deducted by PP from the funds you get. Under this plan, those are the only fees. The $20 per month plan charges the same transaction fees. But at checkout, the buyer does not have to have a PayPal account. He is offered a choice of paying with a major credit card or from a PP account if he has one. The reason why some merchants opt for this $20 a month plan is fewer purchases are lost or abandoned at checkout. If you are selling only a fw items a month of modest valaue, it's not worth the added expense. But if you are selling a higher ticket item and gross order values are strong, then the added revenue can justify that expense.
  8. I came back for another look and whilst doing that I realized there is a much more serious issue here, affecting the viability and legality of your business. I'm amazed I missed it the first time around. Almost every button I looked at is based on someone else's copyright. It's one thing to operate a fan site or function under the "fare use exemption" that allows for the limited use of copyrighted images in the course of academic or literary comment. But simply selling image copies, even for a few cents, is a clear violation that has no legal defense. Sooner or later, one of the many copyright holders will encounter your site during one of their frequent Internet sweeps. Shortly afterwards, both you and your hosting company will get a sternly worded "cease and desist" letter, and maybe even an invoice demanding payment. I'm not trying to Grinch you. I'm just saving you the trouble of building something that can't be sustained.
  9. The rust color - or whatever it's called, is a bit hot for my taste. It overpowers the thumbnails of the products. The thumbnails could be much larger, maybe double in size, to greater effect. Forcing a perecenatge of users to scroll left and right is probably the most annoying thing a web site can do. Take a lesson from the most successful web sites in the world. No matter what resolution the user's monitor is set for, you never have to do a left right scroll atGoogle, Yahoo, Amazon, etc. - so it's obvious that non-scrolling display is considered important - and is do-able. Any web site you create should be checked for issues when displayed in cross-browsers and multi-resolution displays.
  10. I don't think Go Daddy offers cPanel (the cost of low cost) but maybe the tuturial linked from my post in the following message will help http://www.cubecart.com/site/forums/index....19787&hl=Step+3 Good luck
  11. It's not as easy as ABC, but neither is it all, "I don't know." It's do-able. The basic tools I've found helpful are: This forum The sister forum at www.cubecart.org The free unzip tool @ http://free-backup.info/justzipit.html The FTP tutorials @ http://www.ipswitch.com/Support/WS_FTP/ Adobe ImageReady (it's the little brother to Photoshop but a bargain for what it can do). The free PHP editor @ http://www.mpsoftware.dk/ That last item, PHPdesigner, is still in beta but so far I have not found any bugs other than it does not automatically open a window when a file is opened. You have go there manually. But I configured it to edit PHP, CSS and TPL, the three essential file types with which CC is built. The technique I've used, although I'm sure there are many, is: 1) open WS_FTP with the target web site in the right hand window. 2) In the left window, I put a copy of the current CC that I've extracted using justzipit. 3) upload the files to the site where I want the store. This can be the root directory or it can be one I create such as /store or /cart, etc. - Then I follow the steps in the Installation. The CHMOD (change mode) of files to "writable" is simple in WS_FTP. You can only CHMOD a file while it's on the server, not your computer. Just go to the server side window, right click on the file or folder, then select Properties, change the number to 777 (which means "writable.") and that's done. Assuming the installation is complete . . . 4) I then use PHP designer to edit the files in the left window (my hard drive copy) that I want to customize by changing the logo or the background image or using CSS to change the fonts, or edit the TPL for a given skin, etc. 5) I upload the edited file by drag and drop to the matching web site folder 6) Open my browser to the pages that the edit should have affected to see the results. If I screw up, which is not uncommon, I go back to where I keep the downloaded and extracted zip file, use it to overwrite the file I just edited, upload that to the server and I'm back whole again. Hope that helps. Meanwhile, I'm continuing to take my Levitra.
  12. First of all, as you have already had demonstrated to you by the responses, there are quite a few people here ready to help you. For simple things and resolving tech support issues, this forum is free. For issues that go beyond the basics, there are highly qualified experts, some of them the same people you have met here, who are available over at the sister CC forums (www.cubecart.org), either for free or for surprisingly low costs. Let me expand on a few responses you've already seen. Many hosting companies offer an admin system called cPanel. Within cPAnel there is an added-value service called "Fantastico." That service offers a fast and no-pain method of installing many programs such as CC. You just choose the program, say where you want the CC installed, provide a password - and bingo, it's done. But there is a downside to that. CC is evolving quickly. Improvements and upgrades are free. Many of them are highly desirable. But the Fantastico system always lags behind the latest upgrade by a few weeks - and even then, does not do the upgrades as easily as the original installation. To do the upgrades you need some of the very same tools and skills as if you did an upload and manual installation in the first place. Even more important is that the CC store that you install by either method, still requires some customization, such as your own logo, maybe change the colors to your taste, etc. - and again - those call for the same tools and skills as a manual installation. The point is, you are better off learning how to do the manual installation because it is the start of winning total control over your CC - over your business. That's where these forums are very helpful. If you look around you will find that there are excellent, step-by-step tutorials, even some high quality videos, on how to install and do basic customizing of your CC store. Then if you still need help, ask the people here in the forums. Finally, if you wish to have someone do the installation for you, that's available for a few bucks over at the sister forums. But speaking as someone who is not a programmer - and is old enough that I'm looking forward to seeing my oldest grandchild next week now that she's back from college - you can do all the basic stuff yourself without too much trouble. Best of luck to you.
  13. Let's begin with some basics. Do you know the Operating System for the server of your web site host? Is it Windows or Unix? If you don't know the answer to that question, tell us where your web site is hosted so we can look it up.
  14. I am not the only pedantic lingophile in my family. I just happened upon this on a web site owned by one of my sons . . . http://push.cx/2006/the-best-filler-ever-written
  15. Oh, jeez. Now you guys did it again. He's gone all wussie and dewy pants on us. That'll put 3.1 back for added months. Quick someone, pee in his beer so he'll get mean and grouchy again, ready to work. Say unkind thing about England's footie team - (hmmm, no. That's being done by our betters.). I've got it - King George was crazy! See, Brooky's normal again.
  16. Thanks. That's exactly what I was looking for. To take it further, what is it about Zen that makes customizing it hell? In other words, exactly how is Zen customized or skinned that is so limiting? What exactly can not be done with Zen, or is difficult to do in Zen, that is not difficult in CC? How is the ACP of Zen compared with that of CC? To me, CC's ACP seems pretty sophisticated and the next version promises even richer controls. But I have no standard for comparison. For all I know, Zen's ACP may be the Gold Standard. Which specific tools or controls does Zen's ACP lack in that department that are accessible in CC? TIA
  17. Has anyone ever done an objective comparison chart showing which cart offers which features? Particularly between CC and Zen, SS, etc. Maybe, also a portion of the chart with some subjective elements such as "ease of this" or "easse of that" would be welcome. In search here for discussions of ZenCart, I get many irrelevant results (casual mentions, subjective comments, etc. ) but no real face-off comparisons. Anyone?
  18. I agree that at first, especially if you have not encountered some of the issues involved in PHP and MySQL, etc, it can all seem overwhelming. This frustration is common to people on first encounter with Cube Cart, but please trust me, your email reveals you are sufficiently intelligent to frame some basic questions - and therefore you will find that you will be able to resolve them as well. If you prefer to hire someone to do certain tasks for you, the sister forums at www.cubecart.org are a rich resource. But to do these things yourself, start with the froum in which we are now talking. It begins with a pinned topic suggesting that you READ THIS BEFORE POSTING or something like that. That message includes a link to Read Most Common Problems and Questions. See the message: http://www.cubecart.com/site/forums/index....indpost&p=60951 Check it out. Beyond that first message, the same posting includes suggestions on getting help from the members here. Everyone of us has been where you are and we are happy to share our experience and knowledge with you. Some of these people are incredibly skilled. Unlike the forum support community for some software, you'll find that sincere and reasonable respectful requests for Cube Cart help will get superb cooperation. So please start with the Most Common Problems thread. Hope this helps- and welcome to CC.
  19. I don't think your request gets processed unless it is repeated three times. I don't think your request gets processed unless it is repeated three times. I don't think your request gets processed unless it is repeated three times.
  20. Sarah, I do not disagree with the information from Everything Web as to the meaning of the error message. But I think you also need something specific on how to fix the problem. I went through all-day-hell until I figured it out. Try these: http://www.cubecart.com/site/forums/index....indpost&p=83023 That will explain what is happening Then for a tutorial on fixing it . . . http://www.cubecart.com/site/forums/index....indpost&p=90491 Hope that helps.
  21. I'm working on a relatively small site (www.harkinsmusic.com/store). Maybe in time we'll add the other 4 CDs he has made, but for now, only one CD and its MP3s will be offered. So the Search Box in the Legend skin is superfluous. BTW - I'm going to be moving Registration and Login to a new box in the left hand column. Two questions 1) aside from the obvious - the loss of the search function - are there any unintended consequences? 2) what's the best way to do remove search completely? TIA
  22. Wow - what an excellentlly explained Mod. Thanks!
  23. BTW - those who have never studied Latin are like a blind man who has been handed One Dollar's worth of change for a $50 bill. They have no idea what they are missing. Maybe the biggest lie that's ever been told about it is to call it a "dead language." Latin is alive in every sentence in English, French, Spanish and many other lingos ("lingo" being a version of the Latin word for "language"). If you have studied Latin, you can comprehend much of what is being said in any Western Language. Knowledge of Latin even opens up English to clearer understanding . . . televise = to send a visible thing to a far place telegraph = to send something written to a far place teleport = to send to a door far away automobile = a device for moving something under it's own power antepasta = what you eat before the pasta comes conversation = the act of speaking together Shame on "educators" (from the Latin, "e ducere" - meaning "to lead out, as into the world") who have cheated our children of this rich resource.
  24. Lorem Ipsum is not real Latin. As the suggested translation reveals, it's gibberish. Prior to the dumbing down of modern education (oh, the school budgets lost to the bean counters and other philistines) almost anyone with a Liberal Arts diploma from a decent high school would recognize that fact. Funny thing, also lost to cost-benefit-driven education, what is now called "Lorem Ipsum" has always been known as "Greeked Text." It's still widely known as that by printers who use it in tentative page layouts. There's an extension for FireFox that will generate Greeked Text to specification but, of course, it is called "Lorem Ipsum." sic transit gloria mundi . . .
