  1. It's been a while since I've had the "pleasure" - so I've forgotten why I am getting "access denied" after step 3 of a new installation of 3.0.6. Would someone please remind me?
  2. Chapter 3 of the ongoing saga . . . So I did a total restore from backup. However I am now totally intimidated about upgrading this site from 3.0.5 > 3.0.6. But I must. Is there anyone who knows what he's doing and is willing to do the upgrade. I'll pay.
  3. And now the comedy begins . . . I just uploaded the folders (with the noted exceptions) and I haven't even gotten to the alleged instructions regarding upgrade.php Take a look at the consquences. http://www.vikolya.com/ My client is going to be unhappy. I can only hope that my server has a backup. Can someone please tell me how to remove that huge black hole without having to reinstall 3.0.5 from a backup? I urgentlky must upgrade because the "can't ship to your country" issue is really upsetting my clinet. She losing Christmas orders and I'll lose the client. TIA
  4. I'm too literal-minded and asumption-adverse for most computer instructions. I have a lot of problems with assumptions because, in software instructions and in relationships and in damn near everything else, they cause major problems. Therefore, docs that work for smarter, more open-minded people too often are gibberish to me. I know it may be hard to believe, but I really don't know what to do with the upgrade instruction that says, "Execute upgrade.php in the root folder etc...." So I have uplaoded all the store files except includes/global.php, install, language (per those instructions). Do I also upload the specific file upgrade.php found in the 3.0.6 folder? And exactly where do I put it? The instructions don't say and I'm one of those people whose mind says, "if the instructions don't say to do that, don't assume." I genuinely need to be told exactly what intermediate steps might be involved. By "execute" does it mean I then open: www.store.com/upgrade/scripts/3.0.5-3.0.6/upgrade.php in my browser? Can someone dumb down these instructions for me by filling in the assumptions, please? TIA
  5. What should be done with the plaintext file that is created and can be seen in CC3: Admin > View Products > Froogle? Is this automatically read and indexed by Google or should it be submited somewhere - and if so, when, how often and how? TIA
  6. The PP goes into the tmp folder within Pear. As for mis-stating, my response was limited to the narrow question asked, it SSL is required. I never intended to comment on its merits. SSL is not required to make the PP API function. Hope that clarifies my previous comments.
  7. That link contains tutorials and tips which, while useful and very welcome, are not at all the same thing as a coherent and comprehnsive set of docs. I am referring to a project organized the same as a hard copy manual, with a logical TOC, by chapter and subject, searchable by keyword. That can be done with a Wiki. Done that way, it is a totally different thing from a forum with topically organized tips and tutorials. A Wiki covers the entire product, with sections written and refined by knowledgable users. For example, there would be chapters on moding and skinning, chapters defining error messages, chapters spelling out where and how various relements are defined, etc. I hope that the Wiki mentioned above is heading in that directions and if I can help accomplish that, please ask. Joe
  8. I've been snipping at the lack of docs for CC but I am not as negative as I may have been sounding. I love CC and want to see it grow. It's time for me to make a positive contribution - or at least suggest one and ask if others here in the support agree that it would be. I own a hosting company. If a few other people are willing to start creating a set of CC3 docs, I'll provide the hosting free of charge and install Wilki software dedicated to the purpose. Am I on the right track here? Would anyone else support the writing of the docs in a Wiki environment? Joe
  9. In fact, that is the cure for the "can't ship" problem. And it points up, again, the need for a set of comprehensive, coherent docs for CC if it is to be the serious product it is otherwise able to be. Joe
  10. The point of using PP is that they supply the SSL. You do not need an SSl of your own. The PP Certificate must be installed in pear/tmp. Joe
  11. I should have made myself clear. I am not suggesting you leave it with a changed folder name permanently. I'm only suggesting that it be done temporarily until you know the CC is installed. There is a step, not clear in the Install script, I think from 4 to 5, where you get an error notice if you have not removed the Install file. But, at this point, there are other errors possible. If you remove Install to avoid the expected error notice, but encounter an error resulting from a bad installation or a corrupted upload (it happened to me only the other day) you then must stop what you are doing, reup the install file and fool around until you find the error. By renaming, for a few minutes, you can avoid that step. When you are done and have a functioning CC, THEN remove the Install file.
  12. The patch is perfectly timed. I came online to ask about the problem. But now I can't find what folder conntains the bas switch. Path please? Emily Litella (those old enogh know what I eman) Never mind. I found it as soon as I looked again.
  13. Cube Cart is one of a number of apps that use an installation script in a folder called "install." It's a common practice for forums, guest books, etc that involve PHP/MySQL. And each strongly suggests that you delete the folder after installation in order to remove the vulnerability that leaving it there allows. Cube Cart goes on step further and cleverly declines to complete the installation until the vulnerability is mediated. Re-naming the folder is an alternative to removal. It acccomplishes the same purpose as deletion but allows you to return and do a reinstallation if you encounter problems. Just chose an alpha-numeric word as obscure as a good password. Thanks for the upgrade script. Greatly appreciated.
  14. Thanks for that tip on using CSS to eliminate image boarders. You are correct, I've already implemented a tip from Sir William involving editing the image tags in the HTML to include a border="0" to the image calls. It too cleans them up. But I'll keep yours in mind the next time because the CSS is a more elegant approach and will be useful as long as the use of it needs to be applied site-wide. The site looks much beter thanks to the feedback here. http://www.vikolya.com
  15. In the ACP > Customers > Orders screen, orders display terms such as "Pending, Processing, etc. What do they mean? Why are some orders marked Pending and others Processing? What happens if the drop down menmu is used to change an order's status?
  16. The length of the caption is also a deteriminant. If it is so long that it breaks to the next line, it will push the images down a full row. An altertive to increasing the the CSS-defined height is to shorten that caption. Good luck.
  17. Yes, I did but I wish I could say for certain what worked. I turned off UPS and confirmed that I could ship as long as no UPS is charged. Then I went in and installed a weight on every product, finding that about 10% had none. Then I turned on the mysteriouas "by weight" configuration - andtest said I could not ship - so I went back, turned off that feature and again enabled UPS. Suddenly, orders were processed again. Now, I still hope someone can tell me of what use are all those configurations. Meanwhile, where the UPS module gets its freight charges is the greatest secret since those WMDs that caused us to stumble into Iraq. Right now I settle for the answer to the UPS part of that and leave the WMDs for the next election.
  18. The shipping module configuration is the source of much more trouble than it should be for the simple reason that NOTHING is adequately explained. Take the obvious options of UPS and "ship by weight." What does a "standard" or "normal" configuration look like? What is the point and effect of all those configurations such as "by weight". Does enabling or disabling it have any effect on UPS configuration? Are both required or are they in conflict? If UPS is enabled and various methods are chosen (Ground, Next Day, etc.) where is the UPS module getting the costs that the checkout inserts?
  19. Orders show up in CC/ACP > Customers > Orders labeled with one of five or six definitions such as Pending, Processing, etc. But nowhere is there any definition of what each status label means, how it could or should be changed, etc. Does anyone have a coherent tutorial or explanation to share? TIA
  20. No one has replied to this so maybe this attachement will show what I'm asking about and that will encourage a useful response.
  21. UPS may not be the issue for you but it definitely is for me. verified by the simple process of testing the alternatives. When I enable UPS, I get the error. When I disable UPS, I get the error. Res ipsit loqitor and quod erat demonstrandum. UPS is a a problem. It may not be the only problem but it definitely is *a* problem. Anyone have a solution on how to have UPS and still be able to ship?
  22. (whisper . . . shhhh . . . I *am* the host.) In another thread, where someone said they too are having the "can't ship to your country" problem, they said it is not a UPS issue. That inspired me to test that claim. Guess what? It's a UPS issue-. When I turn off UPS, I can ship; back on again, I can't. Were this a criminal trial, a jury would vote "guilty" from their seats in the courtroom. Now, how to fix it? Ahah? Aha-ha-HA! Suddenly I'm not such a clever guy after all. I know nothing. I am worthless. I am the dung on the heel of a camel. I have less credibility than a certain politician's excuses to make war. We need a genius. Maybe some 10-year-old will tell us. Speak up, kid.
  23. Last night and this morning I tested the cart (www.vikolya.com) and it was processing orders fine. Test orders went through without a hitch. Then I went away for a few hours. I returned to a blinking red light on my answering machine and a series of unhappy messages from my client that the "we can't ship to your country" error message is back. I changed nothing after the successful tests. I can find nothing that the client changed. But as soon as you reach the Address screen and click on "continue" that error comes up. Yet the adress is unchanged from when it worked. Anyone with a clue? I'm totally like, man, can ya dig it, clueless.
  24. In response to the above advice, I've done some tweaking. I like the changes that were suggested. Those I've implimented greatly improve the look. http://www.vikolya.com/store/ There's some interesting cross browser stuff going on . . . The ALT text does not display in FireFox. Only on IE. Dopesnyone know of a way to force it Firefox? Look at the home page in each of those browsers and note that in Firefox, the shop by Category box list displays nicely without spacing between the lines of the list. But in IE it has what I consider an un-needed space. I think I can tweak that in the CSS. But if anyone else is aware of the exact place, let me know? Again, thanks for all the feedback.
  25. In the final screen of the PayPal Pro ordering checkout process, the screen where you add your credit / debit card info, the lower portion of the screen repeats certain details from Registration under a header "Customer Information" One of those fields is the buyers State, a two-character field. In my store it is blank and has to be manually entered, even though this information is one of the fields filled by the buyer at regsitration and in 2 previous screens. Any idea why this field is not automatically filled in as all the others are? How to fix?
