  1. I guess everyone is seeing this in the CC forums above the topics - a link to accept a download - trusting soul that I am I downloaded it - and something came down but I have not a clue as to what it is or where it is or why it is - and the text explanation

    QUOTE

    File Control Panel -> Management

    Depending on the permissions your adminstrator has set, you can perform management functions on the Download System from here. Just click an operation to continue.

    may as well be written in Urdu for all the information I get from it.

    What's this all about, please?

  2. I'd like that, too. I don't see that "membership" offers any benefits to the customer, and therefore it is not only un-necessary, but counter productive. Am I missing some marketing-useful purpose?

  3. I get flamed elsewhere when I offer the following comments but I'm trusting there are more sincere people here.

    It's reasonable to assume that most web site and ecommerce store designers are running their own displays at high-resolution. And that's the source of a problem for the ordinary world of site users - where 800 by 600 is the standard. Expecting users to change their display res is unrealistic.

    Other than that, it's a nice basic web site.

  4. Would you reconsider the height of the banner? IMHO a banner should be no more than 60px high, and less when possible. A banner appears on every screen and eye-fatigue develops in direct proportion to the size of the graphic. Also, a high banner wastes the most valuable real estate on a screen, the top 200px.

    In the case of your banner, it seems to me that all the elements in that graphic are repeated below as products and so that banner actually competes for attention with the things that should be the primary focus, your products. A more effective banner graphic would contain a single graphic element roughly 50px high in the form of a logo, against a uniform background color at 60px.

    After all, what is the purpose of the banner? Is it to show the range of products (something that the CC layout already does quite efficiently) or is ia banner a simple, small reminder, using an umcomplicated logo, of what web site the visitor is on?

    Here's one example of what I mean. (I'm on a long weekend away from my home so this is a site in process - and there are many hours to go with the rest of the layout, adding products, etc.). See http://wendycostsastudio.com.

    Hope that's helpful.

  5. Well, I think I'm part way there but I need more knowledgeable insight.

    In Skins>Legend>styleTemplates>boxes>info.tpl I have tested editing and replacing that file. But I'm not quite right. Here's where I'm at, adding the fourth line that I've edit to reference {SITE_DOCS}

    <!-- BEGIN: info -->

    <div class="boxTitleLeft">{LANG_INFO_TITLE}</div>

    <div class="boxContentLeft">

    <span class="txtCopy">

    <strong>{LANG_INFO_PRODUCTS}</strong> {DATA_NO_PRODUCTS}<br />

    <strong>{LANG_INFO_CATEGORIES}</strong> {DATA_NO_CATEGORIES}<br />

    <strong>{LANG_INFO_PRICES}</strong> {DATA_CURRENCY}<br />

    {SITE_DOCS}</strong> {???????????????}<br />

    </span>

    </div>

    <!-- END: info -->

    First of all, please confirm that I'm editing the right file.

    Then, if I am, please tell me goes in that fourth line so that every site doc is linked in that box and displays in this order

    About Us

    Privacy Policy

    Terms

    Contact Us

    Thanks

  6. How can I cause links to the site docs "About Us" and Contact Us" and "Privacy Policy", etc. to display in the "information" box on the left?

    Also, since the store's target market is only in English and only accepts US$, those boxes are superfluous. Where I can turn off the display of those boxes?

    TIA

  7. Thanks for the good info - but I need more.

    Simply reducing the header height to the 60pix of the new topHeader also hides the Search box and the login and register links.

    Apparently their placement is controlled somewhere but I'm not finding it. Do you know?

  8. There's a disconnect in the installation instructions and I think it is caused by assumptions on the part of those who created the installation protocol. I have followed the instructions carefully - only to discover that there are trip-ups along the way that are not mentioned or anticipated.

    For example, I was having a hell of time trying to install CC3. I was getting error messages at the end of the install that no one here responded to. Eventually, after persisting in explaining details about the incomplete installation, I was advised that CC3 can only be installed after the DNS has propagated, not while it is in an IP#/~account mode.

    That the installer requires a propagated DNS is assumed and never mentioned in the installation instructions. It should be. Yes, I'm sure some people are saying, "well of course it's required."

    But that's what an assumption is; not recognizing that other possibilities exist. Some of us *do* need to to be told how to pour pig-***t out of a boot even though the instructions are printed on the sole.

    Anyway, after that debacle, I got the DNS propagated and did a fresh install using the Installer. Actually, I did not complete the install. I am being tripped up at the final steps by other assumptions.

    I set up www.domainname.com/store/, upload the files and do a correct CHMOD. Note I am using "store" for the directory and the files are uploaded there.

    In the instructions, which are based on having cPanel and MySQL (which I have), I am told to create a dB.

    I define the dB Name as (all these quoted details are examples) as "clientstore" and the pw as "password".

    I define the dB User Name as "clientstore" (repeating the name, just to keep things simple) and the User Password as "password" (same reason.)

    But after they are saved, and I'm looking at the screen, cPanel has changed them to

    dB Name: clientstore_clientstore

    User: clientstore_clientsto (truncated like that)

    I go into the CC3 Installer, and all goes well until I'm filling in the form. Here's where I am again frustrated by assumptions.

    The form offers me examples of what is wanted.

    Database Name: XXXXXXXXXX e.g. cubecart_database

    and the illustration in the instructions fills in the field "cubecart_database". Since the instructions use "cubecart" as the directory, I belive that what is wanted here is "directory_dbname" - translated to "store_clientstore"

    The next line says:

    Database Username: XXXXXXXX e.g. database_user

    So is the Database Username what I defined it a . . . "clientstore" ?

    Or is it literally the database and the user name . . . "clientstore_clientstore"???

    I go though similar exercises for the other fields - and when I am all done, and click on the final step, I get an error message saying that the clientstore_clientstore@localhost is not accepted.

    Of what use is such an error message? It's not as if all the data are unknown. Why then doesn't the system simply tell me what it DOES want? If it is rejecting what I am offering, doesn't that imply that it already knows what is required? Why doesn't it simply responded with that?

    Is the dB name the single word I defined it as? Or what cPanel changed it to? Or is it the two_word configuration that the instructions suggest?

    Is the user name what I defined? Or what cPanel changed it to? Or is the example in the instructions correct and to be taken literally that says that the dbname is the directory_dbname?

    What is the pint of the "_" if it doesn't describe that this type of a string is required?

    So I go back and I try every variation of those names, singly and in multi_word combinations, that I can think of (while having to refill the form every time since nothing is saved in each attempt) and none of them work.

    Does anyone understand the issue here? Each step of the process uses different definitions and nowhere is it clarified which is to be applied. Am I too literal minded or not sufficiently imaginative in applying the various conflicting instructions?

    At this point I am very frustrated and still without a fully installed CC3.

    Can someone here clarify this for me, please? Maybe I can PM you with root access so you can see what I'm talking about and either tell me what is wanted in those fields or do it for me?

    HElp will be greatly appreciated.

  9. OK - I'm back- I'm no Indiana Jones or Crocadile Dundee - so I gotta tell you, it's scary in there.

    I went in through PHPmyadmin, found cubecartstore_config, clicked on it and got a long list of files. Found site_url but don't see how to reconfigure it so it references the IP and not the domain name.

    Got brave and clicked in the "T" icon (Text?) and it displays

    QUOTE

    An index has been added on site_url (Query took 0.0461 sec)

    SQL-query:

    ALTER TABLE `cubecartstore_config` ADD FULLTEXT (

    `site_url`

    )

    [Edit] [Create PHP Code]

    END QUOTE

    But I'm afraid to do anything else from that point because it's either gonna bite or blowup.

    Can you give me some specific steps by step suggestions? I know it's getting late down there (my son and grandson live close to Manly Beach) so I'll appreciate anything you can offer before you put the cat out for the night.

    TIA

  10. I'm encountering an installation issue that strikes me as weird.

    I host a few dozen web sites on a Unix / Red Hat box that includes cPanel and Fantastico. I have a new client who wants a CC store. The client already has a web site on someone else's server.

    The plan is to leave that site on that server while I build a CC-based site on my server.

    So I setup an account in cPanel and I can acces it using

    http://myIP#)/~accountname/.

    I uploaded CC3 and tried to us the provided installation wizard. But at the final step I got a bunch of errors. I posted them here but got no meaningful response. I wrote to CC Tech Support and got the answer that there is no support available.

    I deleted the installation and the MySQL db.

    Since my server has Fantastico - and it offers CC2.07, I installed that with the intention of satisfying the client's immediate need - and then upgrading to CC3 further down the road. Good plan, right?

    The Fantastico installation of CC2.07 seemed to go well. But the installation is defective.

    For one thing, there's no CC default logo.

    But more serious, the admin CP opens but then produces only 404s for all the admin CP links.

    My upstream hosting TS says the above problems are because I am trying to do this at http://myIP#)/~accountname/

    That' doesn't make sense to me, but what the hell - I really don't know for sure. Can anyone confirm or refute the TS analysis?

    TIA

  11. Yes, my cPanel has all that but I am in over my head and taking on water rapidly when it come to MySQL. Without a step > by > step guide on exactly what to do and in what order, I'm lost when it comes to a problem like this. What frustrates me is I followed the installation system meticulously

    I probably should look around for someone who knows what they are doing to fix this. Or, if Fantanstico updates to 3.0, that also would solve the problem - but I have no idea if and when they'll do that.

  12. I used the included installation script and followed it exactly - and it co-incided with the downloaded installation instructions as well. Yes, I used cPanel to create the db.

    I'm not aware of the need to work over the global.php file but I'll check it out.

    Where > exactly > or > in > which > directory > is > that > file?

  13. It takes something that everyone else can do flawlessly to remind me how inept and stupid I really am.

    The insall instructions sure look pretty simple and I think I follwedd them to the letter, but here's what I get when to the final step:

    QUOTE:

    Warning: main(../admin/includes/functions.inc.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/SITEUSERNAMEHIDDEN/public_html/store/install/index.php on line 101

    Warning: main(): Failed opening '../admin/includes/functions.inc.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/SITEUSERNAMEHIDDEN/public_html/store/install/index.php on line 101

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function: writeconf() in /home/SITEUSERNAMEHIDDEN/public_html/store/install/index.php on line 184

    END QUOTE

    If some one here can tell me what I've done wrong and how to correct it, I'd appreciate it. Or, if someone feels confident enough to fix it, PM me and I'll send the access codes.

  14. About that mention of a need for a beer break - I admire the candor of that answer. Makes me comfortable knowing I'm dealing with a human being, not a faceless coorporation that neither consumes not eliminates (clooud have used four letter words but there is prolly a filter anyway.)

    Your timing is good. Nothing much will get done in the USA until Tuesday anyway.

    Here in the States we are on the cusp of a 3-day weekend culminating in some sort of a celebration. Something special must have happened on the Fourth of July. Fireworks, parades, flags, public picnics . . . I think King George would not have approved . . . but we are all pals now.

    God Bless America! and Rule Britannia!

  15. I note that 3final was announced for availability today but since it's not on the download page this morning I'm guessing that signals it will be a while yet. I'm willing to wait but I have an eager client, ready to get her store up and running ASAP.

    Does it make sense to install 3beta in order to do some modest skinning now (just change a few colors) and then upgrade when 3final is available?

    Or will there be upgrade issues that suggest we would be better off to wait for 3final?
