    Managing SQL Cache

    So I was trying to figure out why my "latest products" never seemed to change (despite me adding some randomization code). I looked through some code, and I saw that caches never seem to expire. The cache class doesn't even have a setting for this. Is there a way (without modding the core) to clear old cache or something? It seems kind of weird to keep the same cache forever.

    1) login to your CubeCart Admin

    2) Scroll to bottom

    3) Click Rebuild & Recount

    4) Click Clear Cache

    It pays to get to know your CC Admin.... before you go mucking about with the code...

    She probably has a weird character in the category name an & sign a # or its equivalent

    rename the category see if it helps

    My client is getting this error when she clicks 'manage images' on one specific category of her shop, the error is:

    "Security Warning

    Parsed array keys can not contain illegal characters! Script execution has been halted.

    It may be possible to fix this error by deleting your browsers cookies and refresh this page."

    Now deleting cookis hasn't helped her - can anyone shed any light?

    The following is an excerpt from a potential customer on a clients site of mine. she is trying to tell my client that he should turn off the not allow to ship to another address feature in Admin General settings

    so that she can have her item shipped to a different address than what her credit card billing address is (People who use stolen credit cards NEED to be able to ship to a different address)

    This is a real response to trying to help this customer and you wont believe it because its so insane...

    "Here is what some customers said about having the same shipping address and billing address "

    For security I NEVER have them the same. It's stupid to have them the same because anyone with any piece of my mail now has my bank statement address. Tell whomever designed your system you are GUARANTEEING your customers a security risk. I explained it to Sprint, and they recoded their system. I will not order from you. In fact, I can't because I set my system to be secure, and your way puts me at 100% risk. Your security designer is dumb. Linda Hagedorn"

    Ive left her name in so that if any other store owner runs across this thief or at best idiot they will know to cancel her account and ban her email...

    background problem

    I need to have the background behind the text on the homepage to be transparent. I am talking about the text you add to the homepage through the admin screen. It seems to come up in a text box with a white backgound. Where do I go to change this. I am assuming it is somewhere in the Layout.css file. but I can't come up with the right area. Any help would be appreciated.

    the FCK editor will ALWAYS have a white background

    the editor is a What you see is what you almost get

    it has no bearing on what will be seen on the front end which is governed by your skins stylesheets

    the editor does not use the styles from the style sheets

    a transparent background would mean you need to edit your /skins/YOUR SKIN/stylesheets/layout.css for boxContent

    remove the background-color: #FFFFFF; from .boxContent or .colMid classes

    and the main page BG will come thru...

    If editing simple styleSheets is beyond you then Id suggest hiring a professional web designer

    to customize your skin

    Is there anyway that only the Administrator can add review / comments to a product? And to allow the admin to do this from the backend?

    nope

    Customers should add reviews not admins Admins should review the review and edit and then publish or delete

    how esle would other customers know that the review is legit and not just hype from the admin???

    Thumbnail Size Settings (GD Setting)

    the setting in Admin > General settings for thumbnails is for WIDTH

    so set it to 106

    THEN

    go to the maintenance section in admin and Rebuild Thumbnails

    goto the bottom of the rebuild thumbnails page and select all

    then select Build/Rebuild

    rebuild them all and they will all be 106px wide

    Coupon Code More Than Order Total

    No they wouldnt have a credit for $70 but the item would be free then

    You shouldnt use a dollar amount for coupons but rather set a percentage off eg 20%

    CCv4's coupon generator doesnt allow for a order total minimum before applying a coupon that is a price

    off

    giving coupons out for large amounts is a sure way to go broke unless your products are all HIGHER than the coupon amount you set

    If you are actually talking about the gift certificate generator the purchasing user selects an amount to purchase on the certificate and the end user if they buy something with that gift certificate code that is LESS than the certificate amount WILL have a store credit for the remaining amount

    which is proper as the the gift certificate purchaser PAID you for that total amount

    again USE percentages off for coupons

    What if the order total is for $30 and the user enters a coupon code of $100? Will that user have a $70 credit - I would imagine not. What will happen?

    Can You Remove the Price Box in a Categorie

    since the categories all use the same template you would have to have a mod where

    if the price was zero it would replace $0.00 with text "Coming Soon"

    and then put all products that are pre releases into your pre release category

    (they would all have $0.00)

    I scrounged around on the cubecartforums.org site and Ill PM you the link to the mod

    or you can search your self for: Replace 0.00 Price with Text

    Im working on a mod/hack for this and packaging it up with instructions if you have already modified

    viewProd.inc.php and viewProd.tpl from other 3rd party mods

    If you havent modified these two files it will be very simple to over write your files with my 2 new ones

    Ill post the mod on the cubecartforums.org site and post an update here that it is available (for free)

    Review link causing pages to be indexed twice

    the dupe content stems from the fact the review/comments is coded completely wacko

    why send people to another duplicate page when they want to read your products reviews?

    why send them to ANOTHER duplicate of your product page when they want to submit a review

    I have re written this for everyone of my clients and complained to Al, Sir WIlliam and convict

    it takes some doing but I have code that could be implemented whereby

    1) A product WITH reviews doesnt have them hidden but in plain site (why hide them in the first place...?)

    2) when accessing the reviews/comments form it simply unhides the form using a toggle content effect and doesnt take you to a new URL with the same product content

    but leaves you on the same page and uses a anchor

    both of these "tweaks" stop the duplicate content nonsense that is built into the review/comments for product pages

    Maybe now the developers will take notice...

    because if reviews and comments generates at least 2 extra pages for the same product page any cubecart store owner will be penalized for duplicate content

    Priceoptions for Products with different styles

    I guess you havent experienced fully the joys of CC admin

    under "Catalog"

    click Product Options

    now you wont have any optins to start with

    so...

    start with making an option "Mounting Options"

    then make your different mounting attributes

    magnetic, bolt on etc each under Mounting Options

    then assign each option to each product that uses those options

    and do price difference like "+10" if the option costs $10 more or no entry for price if it doesnt change the price

    and assign the option the option attributes and each attributes price difference to each product that need the options

    think of your Product options screen as your Option library :)

    Hi Guys,

    I have a question:

    Is it and how is it possible to add extra options and prices to an item?

    Example:

    I am a dealer for lightbars and beacons and all of the beacons come with different mounting options such as bolt mounting, magnetic mounting,.....

    Because the beacon with the magnetic mount is more expensive than the one with bolt mount i want to have the ability to let the customer choose which version he wants and therefore let the shop calculate the price for this item.

    I am using the version 3 of cubechart and for each product i can only have one price - since i dont want to have 4 items that are excatly the same except the mounting option - i want one product with a drop down menu where i can put in different options and therefore different prices (for example the different mounting options that have different prices) so that the customer can choose what option he wants and then have the shop put that into the price field and use it for the bill and order.

    I have seen that option work on different webshops but havent managed to accomplish that with cubechart3?

    can you guys tell me where to get that option or what to do to get this option?!

    Linux (apache) runz Php and MySql with FEWER problems than stinky old windows server

    why in the world would you be moving to a windows box for hosting....

    if you are truly looking for less problems STAY WITH LINUX

    Hi All

    Your advice and feedback will be much appreciated.

    I currently have both the linux unlimited hosting and the Business Plus (Windows) plan with ixwebhosting and have noticed that the windows one is starting to become more useful with ASP etc.

    If I was to move a CC4 install over would this just work by moving over the entire CC4 and re-pointing the DNS and refreshing the database details or would I have to do a full re-install?

    Will cubecart 4 work fine on the latest packages from ixwebhosting, just asking because I don’t want to encounter major problems that will cause me hours of work needlessly.

    Reason why I am doing this is I am trying to move my current customers over from the linux to windows hosting to get all my customers on just one package.

    1) use Firefox on Mac

    2) You shouldnt be editing text sizes from the FCK Editor the style classes cover all elements for text size you want something bigger/bolder for "header text" use the FORMAT drop down on the FCK editor and use Heading 1 heading 2 heading 3

    (search engines like these better than font size= 20)

    if your content text or other text elements are not the size you want EDIT the /skins/yourSkin/styleSheets/styles.css

    the LESS you add extra html styling to spans or boxContent the better

    Looking for some advice please!!

    We use cubecart both on a Mac and Windows. When trying to edit the text on a product using the mac, there is no option for text size and it displays it with HTML coding which is a bit advanced for what I need!! Anybody have any ideas how to change this??

    How do I deal with a site with thousands of images?

    I have a site that has about 2000 images for the products on there. It makes it a bit of a nightmare to do for example, adding extra images, clicking manage images opens a window displaying a list of all the images, this takes forever. Adding an image via the fckeditor takes ages also, because of the same problem.

    Any solutions for this?

    I would sort your images into subfolders based off their category

    all images for category 1 into a folder all images for category 2 into another folder

    this will help make managing images easier

    CCv4 really messed up FCK editor and doesnt allow for those of us with large product inventory and the only way to manage them is to create subfolders thru FCK

    you can also get Estelles pro image manager which will help but again putting your images into subfolders will help greatly we did this on a clients store with over 15000 products
