  1. Set up a subdomain, start a fresh v5 there, get it looking (and working!) the way you want to and then you should just have to move it to the main domain. Upon moving it to the main domain you should have to change a file or two to link the database back up but tech support should know which files need changes. There is no way to run 2 carts on the same domain without having a subdomain to separate them.

  2. I tried this upgrade this morning, I am running a 100% standard version of 5.05 but all I got was a blank page on the store front, admin ran ok, did all the usual, cache clearing etc but nothing. Gone back to a back up. Think i'll give up on the upgrades.

I constantly got this error: [Exception] /home/sites/mydomain.com/public_html/includes/lib/smarty/sysplugins/smarty_internal_templatebase.php:127 - Unable to load template file 'js.tpl'

When you cleared the Cache did you do that through the admin panel or through ftp? This is where my first install hung up and thankfully I caught the failed notices from my ftp software. I had to go into cache and delete what I could manually. Somethings took more than one try and some refused to be deleted at all. The next problem was within the Cache folder is a Skins folder. I couldn't get it to delete to save my life. I had to rename it and then upload the files again to make it work.

If there is a problem with an upgrade it always happens to me. 5.0.5 was really buggy so I went back to5.0.4 but other than the trouble I had listed above, there were no other problems with 5.0.6.

  3. Bug report created - http://bugs.cubecart.com/view.php?id=3119

This should be interesting. I reverted to my backed up files until this is straightened out.

I am not surprised yet still disappointed. I've been testing other shopping carts, saving money and waiting to see what happens over the next month. Come the slow down in my sales trend after the 1st of the year I'll make a decision giving me lots of time to test and save up.

  4. If I wasn't tempted last night in a fit of anger and frustration I sure am now! I just got notice from my v5 of an order with no address or order number, no total, nothing just the items ordered(which I am grateful for). Thankfully I got a paypal payment in at the same time and know the customer from a message board I chat on because I'm pretty sure it is her order. When I go into admin it doesn't show up at all! Of course the paypal payment has an order number but no list of what was ordered. When I search that order number it doesn't show up in my admin panel either. What a piece of garbage! If 5.0.6 isn't out this week, and isn't more stable that's it I'm done I'll go back to v4 until I can get another cart up and running from another company.

  5. Ok I've just about had it with v5. Just found an old v4 Database and am about ready to go back to it and just load everything new since then.

Trying to flip through products in admin and have page numbers suddenly disappear and not want to come back so that I can't move forward or backward without refreshing or clicking product again 10 times then can get to the page I want only to have it happen again as I'm trying to go to another page. Same happens when I have to find a customer order. Page one is always there but sometimes nothing else is. Of course it often happens when I'm on the phone with a customer and trying to keep them calm even though I can't get to their order!

Bigger problem. Some days I can change credit card orders to processing so that I can run all at once and mark which ones I've done. Other days, like the past two while I'm running a massive sale when this issue is really trouble, it just bogs down and times out and refuses to let me switch from pending to processing.

NO I'm not running 5.0.5 I'm running 5.0.4 because I tried the new version and had even more problems with images and other issues. I've had so much down time since upgrading from v4 that I could scream. It has cost me several thousand dollars in sales.

Another HUGE problem. Customers order once then try to log in to check their orders, place another order etc. and they can't log in or if they can they can't pay! They try to reset their passwords themselves and can't do it. Half the time if I go in and reset the password it doesn't work either. THIS IS COSTING ME CUSTOMERS and yes I'm yelling but at least I haven't resorted to ripping my hair out.

At this point I've paid money for a piece of software that not only doesn't work but is costing me money. I'm not the only one having these problems, many are. It has now been over 3 months since I switched from v4 with no good answers and fixes. Sure I could put in help tickets for every little bug but then I'd run out and I refuse to pay for more support on a broken piece of software when it isn't my fault.

Many of these bugs are already reported and say fixed in v5.0.6 so when the heck is that coming out? A time frame would be great so that if it is months away I can save time and sanity finding another cart or if it is days then I can hold out, cross my fingers, and hope it is all fixed in the next version.

    Very angry right now,

  6. Click the image tab last. Same goes if you edit something. No matter what go and make sure the correct image has a star by it before you click save. It happens to me and no one has answers for this issue yet. This and disappearing pages when I'm trying to go through items or orders are just a few of my current pet peeves with the software.

    Jamie

i get to images tab, then i "choose file" from my PC to get the image, but then i must press "save" or "save and reload" to upload the image. I don`t have the option to give the image a star . You must already have all your images uploaded to the server?

I do have my images on the server and try to remember to add them where I want them before adding a new item but it doesn't really matter. For new items as long as you add the image last it will be fine. When editing an existing item look at the image last just to make sure it is right.

In this case upgrading to 5.0.5 doesn't help in fact I had more problems with it than I did with 5.0.4 so I went back to it. This is a serious bug that needs to be fixed and 5.0.5 sure doesn't fix it.

  8. For anyone else who needs it.

You can change the SEO url by editing each item one at a time. Click to Products, then edit next to the item you want. Across the top of the edit page you will see tabs starting with General then Description etc. Click on the one that says Seach Engines.

On the Search Engine page you will have

    Meta Title

    custom SEO urls

    Meta keywords

    Meta discription

You can set the SEO urls to anything you want but remember to put a dash between words. Also remember the software won't allow duplicates. If you do get a duplicate and try to save you will get a warning saying the SEO url didn't save.

If yours is as buggy as mine you also need to go back to images and make sure the star is next to the correct image before hitting save or it disconnects the image.

For Sitemap I used an online free program that took me about a half hour to create. It was a piece of cake, the longest part was weeding out the info I didn't want. I just searched on Google for free sitemap software and picked one that I didn't have to download and could do online.

    Hope this info helps!

  9. Hi,

Does anyone know of a way to contain the menu in the cart? We have 13 main categories, and the tons of sub categories and a few sub/sub categories. When you hover over the navigation tree everything goes crazy and expands and does not 'close' (per the notes in the script.js code). This is really hard for people to navigate and it is really annoying. (you can view what is going on by going to - www.tfeinc.com/store)

Is there a way to either make this menu behave correctly (ie. close when no longer actively hovering) or better yet, just disabling the whole thing all together and just have it act the the menu tree in CC4?

    Thanks,

    Jen

Store Settings > Layout tab > Select No for "Expand category navigation tree".

This will remove the sub categories all together. You have to click on the parent then select the sub category displayed on the page. Might not be what you want but that is all I've seen in relation to your request.

I had to turn mine off too because it wouldn't collapse back into place causing customers to not be able to see anything else.

  10. I haven't found a way to get it to automatically change the SEO based on item titles, but you can go through manually, one at a time, and change them. I've been working on it for weeks. It is slow going but at least I'm getting each SEO set up just as I want it.

As for sitemaps there are plenty of free sitemap programs out there. I can't get the sitemap feature built into v5 to work either so went the free route and just uploaded the .xml file directly to my server.

  11. Abest you are right. There should be a way to get rid of the shipping charge showing before a customer has entered their address. I too have dropped in sales by a HUGE margin since upgrading to v5 but it isn't due to the shipping showing incorrectly. It is due to losing search engine page rankings when switching from v4, which I'd used since it was released, to v5 and then being down for 2 weeks to rebuild what didn't transfer correctly during the upgrade and battling with a long list of problems including Paypal not working, international customers not being able to order etc.

I made the switch from v4 to v5 near the middle of August and it has been a rough go with few answers here in the forums but many help tickets. I can't even work on customization until I get all the bugs worked out but the shipping price bug is near the bottom of my list.

If you find a lot of uncompleted orders, and I get these too, email and ask the customers if there is something you can help them with. It may be shipping price but it may be they decided to come back and order later etc. Most of the customer feedback I have gotten is that something came up and they weren't able to finish the transaction at the time. Even if they cancel the order before getting to the payment stage it still shows up on the Admin panel which shouldn't be happening either.

    Jamie

  12. I'm confused. I'm on 5.05 and I had the address override enabled - checked green. But I've had several failed orders where they said they got a message about not having the correct address.

So, should it be left red check if I do NOT want the customer's order to fail if they use a different address on our site than they have listed on PayPal?

This is a problem I fought with for weeks! Eventually Al got it fixed but I honestly have no idea what he did as I submitted a help ticket and the next day it was working.

I can say that I had to went in and set up what countries I wanted to accept paypal from under the allowed zones in the payment gateway>paypal tab. I would try this first and then if there is a problem submit a ticket.

  13. From what I've experienced with v5, the shipping charge showing is related to the address of used for the shop in the Admin panel. It drives me a bit batty too but only takes 2 seconds to explain to customers who ask why the difference between the charge they first see and what they get in check out. Easy to explain that the correct charges are figured once they enter their mailing address. Most figure it out on their own because it is rare I get asked. Those that do ask often have other questions to go with it.

I once had the same problem with V4 but once I removed the test account I set up to test everything the problem stopped. It didn't work with v5 though.

  14. As the software is very new I would be cautious about relying on it for a client. There have been a number of issues with the lack of support being top of the list. I have a working web site now (our reserve site we can switch to in emergencies) and the software looks to have promise. Finding answers to problems has been difficult with most of them solved by experimentation.

Having been through this before from V3 to V4 (which was not as bad as this) to now v5 I would wait a bit longer before trying to sell it to clients. I get asked to suggest shopping carts and love to send people to buy V4 but as of yet I wouldn't recommend 5 to anyone, not until more bugs are worked out. The hard part about reporting bugs or even trying to fix them is they change daily. One day something works fine and the next I doesn't yet I can't even get that stable enough to report it.

I just stumbled upon an old v4 database that I had backed up. I'm getting real close to putting it up and loading all the items that weren't in that database yet.

  15. Now that I've gone live I'm getting the long urls with categories and subcategories as well as the item title! And they do not go away when the store is live. HELP!!

Same here, I've had to go in and edit them one at a time for each item like I did to get the pictures to work. Sorry I don't have a better answer.

Oh and don't forget to redo your sitemap after the seo changes or you will get a bunch of errors!

  16. I have found that by setting the postage to "free" the checkout works. It points to an issue with how the postal zones have been set up. You need to enable both the payment and postage for the zone you are in. If you upgrade to 5.05 make sure you delete the files in the cache folder or you shop will be broke.

I am now getting reports from customers of the same problem. They ordered once just fine and when they go to order again they can't get past the address page either. My country codes issue has been fixed by Al and I can now get orders from my Australian customers but now my US customers are stuck.

  17. I rely a lot on Google Merchant feeds as well and switching to v5 still really hurt retail sales. Repeat customers are still going strong but new customers have dropped in big numbers and slow coming back up even with new Merchant feeds, new sitemaps etc. I remember going through it when I upgraded from 3 to 4 but of course I didn't remember it until after I upgraded to 5 or I would have waited until my slow time of year. It is good someone brought it up so that others can factor it into their decision on when to upgrade.

    Jamie

  18. I can't say I'd upgrade again if I could get my v4 back working. It has been a rough and ugly 2 months. I'm tired, I'm frustrated but I'm finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Got a new glitch today but won't report it unless it keeps happening through tomorrow. In the end it will be worth it. For me the issues have been sales killers but it is slowly coming back. Very slowly but better than nothing since I can't go back to v4do to a problem with my hosted server while I was backing it up. My webhost has all the servers on COLO4 which crashed while I was in the middle of the database back up causing a hiccup.

V5 is so much different that if you only have a tiny grasp on the coding it won't make any sense. I'm not brave enough to mess with customizing my skins yet. I miss being able to change colors and move things around, adding and subtracting boxes but all that is minor. My Paypal not working starting 5 minutes after the upgrade when the first order was placed is a huge problem and Al has tried fixing it but explaining the problem hasn't been easy and I'm waiting on a friend to test it again and take step by step screen shots to help with that matter. For now I just shut it off and have let customers know to email me for Paypal invoices. Not being able to sort items in admin by category is a huge time sucker as well but minor when it comes to sales. The big plus for me is that I can sell wholesale now as well as retail by using the groups setting. That will make my life much easier if I can convince shop owners to order through the site.

I used to recommend v4 all the time to people and still do but until all the bugs are worked out of v5 no way. My experience taught me if you have a small store it isn't so bad but when you have a big store like mine or larger it is a huge risk. It reminds me of Windows or car manufacturers. Rush to get it out then fix all the problems. I know it can take years of trial and error but in the long run it would have been better since v4 was good.

  19. This would be a question for your suppliers and will depend on how your sales contracts with them. Some vendors allow product and logo use in advertisements if you are an authorized dealer. However, often this only applies if you are a direct, authorized dealer - for example, an XBox dealer as authorized via Microsoft. If you are purchasing thru a 3rd party and not from Microsoft itself, you may not be able to use their trademarks.

So you really need to contact the companies you are purchasing from and find out 1) if they are authorized to use the trademarked items and 2) able to grant you authorization to use them. You may find out neither of you are really legally able to use them.

On the other hand, some manufacturers actually give advertising allowances to you if you do utilize their logos in your advertising copy. So in some cases, it may be worth you becoming an authorized vendor with them.

Mysty has explained it very well. I'm no copyright lawyer but I deal with copyright issues on a daily basis and have been lucky to have a great retired lawyer, still teaching at a major college go over the in's and out's with me in great depth. 10 years of dealing with it. The simple answer is when there is any doubt ask the copyright holder. If it isn't yours, and you can't get permission then don't touch it. That basic rule will keep you from getting sued.

  20. I dont know one myself, but im a member of a forum that has a whole section on it - http://www.thewholesaleforums.co.uk/forum/dropshipping/.

i guess you are probably from america but im sure it will be of use.

There are quite a few depending on what you want to sell. Many are very specialized and you need to know what you are selling. It wouldn't do you much good to have me dropship my Cross Stitch charts if your customers have to wait for you to email me their questions and me to answer them and email them back. Same goes for a lot of the wonderful drop shippers I know my friends use in occult stores, dog breed items, jewelry etc.
