I do not think that there is a setting for random product, which is what "featured" product really is. I would bet that any one of the php programmers here could tell you how to exclude certain product numbers or category numbers in the query that calls for random prods, though. It allows you to control which featured products to display from the admin interface (adds an option on the product inventory section for each product). Here's the link if anyone wants to try it, but please try this on a test store or backup first - I'd hate to screw things up on a live store!
