checkout process: failed

when i hit confirm and it goes to run the credit card it comes back up and says:

'Sorry, your order failed!

You can attempt to purchase your basket contents again below: '

can anyone help me with this? i have talked to my hosting company(bluehost) and to my merchant company(authorize.net) and they don't know how to help me.....if you have any advice i would greatly appreciate it.
