Guest youngjoonshi
I have successfully installed the latest cube card into my host... I want to start digital products (ebooks) and I had the option of Product Type: Tangible or Digital Digital products are required to have either an HTTP Path or Server Root Path (see below). Digital Info: HTTP Path: http://www.domain.com/downloads/download.exe Server Root Path: /usr/local/vhosts/www.domain.com/downloads/download.exe (Recommended!) The advantage of using the server root path is that files can be stored elsewhere than the publicly accessible folder. If this method is chosen CubeCart will automatically create a download link which has an expiry time and max amount of downloads which is configured in the store settings. I am confused. I wish to use the server root path and I have uploaded it under: kdownload.net/downloads/ebooks/10GoogleSteps.zip. Download works find but it isn't a server root. Please help! Guest walmarc
I am confused. I wish to use the server root path and I have uploaded it under: kdownload.net/downloads/ebooks/10GoogleSteps.zip. Download works find but it isn't a server root. Please help! Why do you need to use the server root? Why not upload a file to http://www.kddownload.net/downloads/ebooks/filename.zip and include that link on your site. You could always set a username and password for the ebooks folder and change it daily/weekly/monthly so users could not download forever or pass the download link/username/password to others? p.s. I strongly believe moderators should include a relevant link in their posts - rather than instructions to just "search" - apologies vrakas PPS: Why do I advise this? - Because the search engine is less than proficient and usually craps out if you type in more than one word! Hope this helps Mark
markscarts
Welcome to the forum youngjoonshi I have written a tutorial that explains all this. You can find it at http://cubecart.org When you go to that forum, search for "Adding Downloadable Digital Products"
Guest
walmarc, your method eliminates the necessity of an e-commerce script. And quite frankly is just not a good way to do it. Ideally, you have your download files OUTSIDE the web-accessible portion of your server. The tutorial explains this better. :w00t:

My issue was that markscarts post didn't have a direct link to the tutorial which makes it quite difficult to find. The fact that the search engine used in these forums is less than perfect sometimes makes it quite difficult for users to locate solutions. I was hoping that in these circumstances common sense would prevail and that the "external link" rule would be softened with the objective that the OP could quickly find a solution. :D
markscarts
Unfortunately, due to abuse of the forums by commercialism, we are unable to offer those direct links. In my opinion, explaining where to find tutorials at cubecart.org is the best solution, because the forum member then learns where to find a handful of other helpful tutorials they might miss otherwise. :D
Guest Hermitcrab
I would be glad to offer a direct link to the tutorial - there is even an online version that I can send folk to Unfortunately, due to abuse of the forums by commercialism, I am unable to offer those direct links. One was deleted by a moderator two days ago. I am offering help here the best I know how. In my opinion, explaining where to find tutorials at cubecart.org is the best solution, because the forum member then learns where to find a handful of other helpful tutorials they might miss otherwise. Well, let me tell you how frustrating that is. I've spent nearly 45 minutes trying to find this mythological tutorial and have not been able to. I've used the search engine in every way I can figure out--filtered even by the author's user name. This rule is a huge dis-encouragement for me. I'm almost about ready to try a different software package. Argh. Where is that damn tutorial?
markscarts
In order to help prevent user frustration, the entire text of that tutorial is now in the appropriate post at .org forum. Also, I have edited my instructions and comments above to make it easier to find and less dated - the original writing was over eight months old. I hope this helps. Please remember, all unofficial CubeCart documentation as well as mods, skins and services is prohibited from this forum, and must be sought at cubecart.org.
