disabling categories

How can i disbale a category that has been created? If there is a category created and i do not want it active, is there a way i can disable it rather than deleting it?

For instance, if at some point i want a category of products not to be available to the public, instead of deleting the category and all the products in it, is there a way of disabling? which then allows easy future re-enabling.

I just performed a search at the Hacks and Tweaks forum in cubecartforums.org but I did not find anything on the subject in question. Does anybody knows where else it can be found?
