As we're hailing the benefits of up to date software (php5), when is CubeCart going to support IPv6 addresses?

Seems that Icann are starting to kick up a storm about this trying to influence ISPs to roll it out, as the existing IPv4 addresses are running out. Good time to start considering how it could be integrated into CC with both systems working alongside each other?

Hi Brivtech,

PHP5 supports IPv6. So do most modern servers.

At an application level, things should be fine, CubeCart uses domain names and so its down to domain name resolution for PHP to worry about. I can't see a problem.

Perhaps I'm missing something - but as I understand, this effects systems that use IP addresses directly (Routers/Server applications/Browsers/FTP clients etc)

Cheers!

Jason

I thought it may eventually affect CC, as CC used IPv4 names:

- The database would need to be updated to take the longer addresses

- The code would have to also account for this.

- Where we have IP lookups, again, I think this may have to be taken into account again.

The changes and code to support that could literally be done in less than 30 minutes. It's not currently an issue. And until it is, I wouldn't be concerned about it.
