Categories - add Sale Item product count

I have found numerous posts on how to remove the product count from the categories on the homepage.

What I want is to add the product count to the sale items category.

This is a snippet of what I have.

	* Supplies (19)

	* Sale Items

This is what I need.

	* Supplies (19)

	* Sale Items (8)

I don't know or can't find what the correct variable that can be set to include this.

If this is already been posted, I'm sorry I couldn't find it.

Any help is appreciated.
