How To Know What To Design?

Hello,

I am wondering how people create (make) designs for their cubecart stores. Do you design part-by-part graphics or whole graphics then cut-up into pieces.

Example:

Design part-by-part graphics -

header.gif: 100% width, 20% height

tbg.gif: 3 pixels width, 19 pixels 19 height

Design whole graphics -

fullstore.gif - 700 pixel width, 550 pixel height (include all parts in one)

for a skin (quick color change)

or whole graphics then cut-up into pieces

for a theme (complex full-redesign)
