Guest kickit
Howdy party people.. Long time listener, first time caller. Thanks to you all, (namely Marcscarts, Sir William, Estele and that cyprus guy.. thanks!! ) I've managed to get my site (www.fle33.com Legend based) preeeeety much done. I've gone a bit hard on the code pruning today and am a bit stuck.. I am running this site in conjunction with ebay listings.. I have created a html template on ebay of width 700 pixels for my listings. I planned to edit these pages to 400 pixels then copy and paste the whole source code into the product description for my store.. That way my product pages become pretty snappy with flash, pics, links, all just plonked in. I was pretty chuffed when I got it to work... HOWEVER nothing is ever easy. Even though I set my product template page width to less than 400 px (which is my middle column width in layout.css) I was getting nasty kinda wrap around where the right col went under the middle col. I read a topic on that, and finally decided I dont need the right col, so deleted it. I thought.. cool, now I have another 160px to play with on my product description.. but no.. It seems the column width has a useless border on it as well. I cant find where.. What Im wondering is where or how do I set my middle colum to be say 550 pixels wide. Also I forgot.. where do i edit my border colour for the product box? If you visit my store then try the PC-777 shell shaped pc case you'll see my dilema.. Thanks everybody!! As you were.. Guest aikdo
In skins/(YOUR SKIN)/styleSheets/Layout.css FIND .colMid { position: relative; width: 398px; float: left; } Change the bit in blue to your value
Guest kickit
if you take a look at the product pc-777 you'll see ive left the border on the right to highlight my problem. The pinkish box with reveiws is the side of the htm for the product, yet 1 px the border is still 100 px or so away.. how do I tighten that gap? Guest kickit
oops I forgot to mention.. I've set my middle coll to 550, right col to 0 with 0 left pad and 0 right pad.
markscarts
A suggestion: Fix your meta description. It is way too long, contains 15 tons of white space, carriage returns, etc. This can cause problems, especially in IE. Please fix that first, then approach the other issues
markscarts
Next, when I look at the source for that page (prod 777) I find what looks like sloppy code around line 344 (just below "product Information" label). It looks like certain things were pasted in from the head of another html document, some parts were commented out, some not. Not commented are a meta tag that belongs in the head of a document, then there is a <style> tag which is active, this also would belong in the head of the doc - inline styles are used in the body - you have the styles themselves commented out, but the closing </style> tag is also active. Then there is this javascript code: <script type="text/JavaScript"> <!-- function MM_openBrWindow(theURL,winName,features) { //v2.0 window.open(theURL,winName, features); } //--> </script> That code should be snipped and pasted into the head section of index.tpl. Please clean all this up before proceeding with your troubleshooting.
Guest kickit
hmmm confusion we meet again.. For some reason the code source I use from dreamweaver looks different to that saved in product source which (as you found marc looks) muuuch different to that found on the page.. I cant find where all these carriage returns and white space are coming from..
Guest kickit
Hi Marc, Just read your last reply about the sloppy code. I made this page by simply creating and editing tables and cells with links to image sources.. so I assumed it'd all be clean.. I'll see what I can do.. markscarts
Doesn't matter how it got in there (meta desc), you can take it out with a simple delete. markscarts
And now it dawns on me, are you using someone's SEO mod that adds the entire product description information here automatically? OK, if so, then forget about that I guess (though I think it's malarky having all that crud in the meta desc). But I still think that the meta tag in the body, and the javascript, should be removed from the body. May not be what's causing your problem but those are the glaring mistakes that I see on a quick scan of the code

markscarts
:D CubeCartâ„¢ puts the product description there automatically out-of-the-box, so I suppose I put the old boot in my mouth on that one It's late, I'm off to bed P.S. - here is what one of my prods look like in the meta desc: <meta name="description" content="See a larger image The Skin Factory's EROS skin is suitable for selling adult-oriented items. I'll be glad to install your logo, custom bullets and banners for an additional $10.00! Simply choose that option from the dropdown, and I'll contact you for your artwork." />
Guest
remember when ur viewing the source code of a cubecart page of the web it will look different from wot u c in editor prog as u r editing one specific page and on the web ur r displaying several pages at once on one page.
markscarts
Thanks Homer, though yes, I already knew that . . . but I didn't know that CubeCart would generate a meta desc tag from all the whole product description like that. It really threw me off
