It means: A valid fingerprint, Transaction Key, or password is required for this transaction. Have you correctly configured your Authorizenet-AIM gateway? Be aware that "Merchant ID is not your Authorize.Net account ID number or password. When you generate a pair of transaction API codes, Authorize.net calls something else what CC calls Merchant ID.
