Shipping modules configuration issues

Hi,

I am using version 4.4.2 and I have been trying to set up certain shipping modules but I am experiencing all kinds of issues:

- With Royal Mail, I constantly get Error 1001 instead of getting the checkout page, and so regardless of the number of items even when the weight was set for 1kg and the item is 1kg.

- then tried the "Per item" module, works all fine but not flexible for different countries

- tried the "Per weight", gets the same errors as with Royal Mail.

I must be doing something wrong surely but really cannot see where. Can anyone assist me ?
