CHMOD 777

Just when I thought things were smooth sailing. I get an email from my host asking me to get rid of CHMOD 777, But they already changed what should be 777 to 755, will that cause any problems?

What needs to be writable

Writable (0777):

images/uploads/

images/uploads/thumbs/

includes/extra/

cache/

Do they need to be writable all the time,

They are on me for a few mods I have too which use base64_decode, sorry Estelle. I fear I may become a nuisance to her.

Those directories do need to be writeable and generally that means setting them to 777 unless they are running their server (as we do) using suPHP when 755 is correct (and a much more secure solution)

Thank you Ian, they are set to 755 and all is well.
