Customer Download Free PDF from Category

Hi I would like my customers to be able to download PDF files opened in a new window preferably from "Catergory" without having to go through the checkout.

The files are located in File Manager "Download" I have tried an image with a hyperlink in Product "Catergory" and also in File Manager "Documents" non of these seem to work. What am I doing wrong PLEASE.

Here is my code:

<p style="text-align: center;">
 <a href="http://www.spillabsorb.com.au/files/Soakitup_MSDS.pdf" target="_blank"><img alt="" id="Soakitup_MSDS.pdf" name="Soakitup_MSDS.pdf" src="/images/source/Soakitup_Material_Safety_Data_Sheet1.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 150px;"></a></p>

Regards Dave

This is what I get:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /files/Soakitup_MSDS.pdf on this server.

So, I am thinking that this file (or entire folder) does not have the permissions necessary for a visitor to access (or download) this file.

Yes, that's correct that's what I got. I have just solved the issue by loading the PDF files direct into the public HTML folder and linking to them from images. Unfortunately I had to put them in the documents section rather than in the product category but that's ok.  Still works ok. However I am getting IMAP issues popping up now from my host.

It would be good to have a FREE price option as standard - where if free is chosen than checkout is not required unless other products are also in the cart. Just a thought for those who give freebies away.

There have been discussions (and a mod some months back) that if the price is zero, then the product's price will actually say Free!.

I know that CubeCart will skip over the phase of checkout that has the customer make payment if the Grand Total is zero. But the customer must go through checkout - otherwise, how is CubeCart to know when the customer is finished "shopping".
